  • Can I ask why has this rink torn down? Was it too old?

  • I loved Montvale... It was such a big rink. Had a great time growing up there. Thanks so much for posting!!

  • I wonder if Travolta knew it was demolished.... he practiced his dance moves there for Saturday Night Fever.....

  • Maybe it's just cuz i grew up on them... but I float like a butterfly on my roller blades, not so much on quads xP

Yea, it's harder to dance on them... you have to have good balance because you don't have wheels all around u holding u up, but this is also what makes roller blades so versatile.

  • Montvale Roller Rink, Chestnut Ridge Rd across from the corner of Woodmont. I was there from 1991 to 1995. We were such a family. Gus, Goofy and Coach. The Time Warp. Made many friends and lost a few as well. Good times!!

  • Well, first of all, I'm a blader, and i definitely dance. The long wheelbase means that you do a different type of dancing, is all, but there's still just as much expression as quads IMHO.

I'm very lucky that in my part of the world, there are still several rinks open - including one that has a monthly pass for not very much money.

I agree that skating and raving are remarkably similar - and that skating is like being on some kind of drug, by itself - the speed, the sense of freedom..

  • I used to go here in 81-82. Those were the days!

  • You know it's real amazing how I made that comment just a moment ago before you even spoke about how skating is like a drug which just goes to show how much that statement is soooo true and if people could just give skating a try they will understand because it's not even explainable, it's just a wonderful feeling you get when you see other people coming and enjoying themselves and everybodys happy & glad to be around one another. there's nothing like it, at least i havent found anything similar

  • Skating is indeed one of the most highest highs you can get. For me it is one of the ultimate highs & it is unfortunate that people is not embracing it like they really should. I love skating man and Imma teach my children how to skate when or 'if' i have any.

    This is a great Video

  • Thanks for the time and effort to put this together. Roller skating, especially skate dancing, takes "real" skill and talent not to speak of the hundreds of hours of practice. The roller bladers don't have that sense of grace a fluidity of movement. Remeber - they live in extreme world of sports nowadays.

    Thanks again

  • so true!!!!

I work at golden skate in vancouver, washington its a very old interesting rink if you ever come out west!

  • Very cool. Golden Skate is Ice Skating, RIght?

I stink at Ice skating. Funny how you can be a very good roller skater and suck on ice skates.

I suck on inline skates too.

I was hoping to be good on those for street travel but was so bad I had to worry I'd kill myself. Ha.

When you visit NYC you have to go to Central Park and skate with the CPDSA.

  • This video is as beautiful as it is sad. I remember skating here in England many years ago and how liberating it was to just glide with the breeze caressing your face and the world becoming a blur of motion.

Hope you all find new home and continue to spread the love. Bless.

  • i am so sorry i missed out on this rink :((( the floor look wonderful. great footage loyalfilsguy. you described exactly how i feel when i skate.
