STILL: most of the interviews where kishimoto clearly says they are gay are actually fake, but that doesn't change the fact that this was the original plan. Then, the series got really big and he couldn't risk to ruin the generic "hero" type of anime, so he dropped the sasunaru idea for later. He's still planning to end the series with a little shounen-ai(nothing exaggerated), but I'm not 100% sure it'll happen.
