if u like lure fishing for pike try out using a realy light rod and some heavy pike flys. this works really well on heavly fished waters where fly fishing is not allowed
thats my local water, bout 3 miles away from me, first time there about 15 years ago got a nice 17lb 3oz Nearly crapped myself, thanks to the guys who helped me handle it
haha the yanks stayed well away from the war because when they finaly joined the first world war they got there asses kicked and then when japan shit in there cake they thoght they could be good enouth to take them on still got there asses kicked until the end where all they could do was drop a nuke and then again thoght they were good enouth take on the vietnamese and then had to run away from it because they were being beaten by a third world country who could barely afford weapons to use
Enough with the Yank limey talk. Matt Hayes is a good angler but if you want to catch top notch pike come to minnesota or canada you will not be dissapointed.
We call it a bait casting reel not a bait runner, I use one every time when i go fishing the pacific.
How is the trout fishing in england?
Dont get started on war limey, we stomped you twice and the second time you guys cried war crimes because Andrew Jackson massacred thousands of brits in the battle of new orleans:)
@Mbsmoothie your a total sack baw, typical american idiot, open that burger destroying mouth and let that fat belly rumble. Last time I checked fishing had f*ck all to do with war so in future do us a favour and don't share your thoughts with us.
lol Americans stayed well out of the war until the Japs came and bloodied their nose. Until then they were so ignorant of what was happening elsewhere in the world they did not see the threat.
It wasn't so that Matt can wind backwards, it was so the americans don't have to eat Sushi. Now they can feast their fat asses on McDs and coke.
It's a Shimano bait runner, it has a small switch under the main body that lets you back wind, he reels backwards to play out line to the fish, it's a well known way of doing it to anyone who knows about fishing, some people prefer that way to just using the clutch. But, as you are so ignorant with some of your comments to me, I wouldn't expect you to know that. And my teeth are great thanks. Looking forward to your stupid, ill thought out retort.
@Eyeball1975 It doesn't matter how old the video is. You can watch ancient bass videos with Kevin Vandam and they'll still be helpful. The video is not helpful. And if it was the top reel of the day what type of reel is it that it reels backwards? Only in Europe would you see some whack shit like that. I'm glad America decided to get our hands dirty and help you ass holes in WWI and II just so you could reel backwards.
@Eyeball1975 It doesn't matter how old the video is. You can watch ancient Kevin Vandam videos and they will still be helpful. This video however, sucks. And if this reel was top of the range in its day, what type of reel is it? Only in Europe would you reel backwards. I'm glad America got her hands dirty to help you all out in WWI and II so Matt Hayes here could reel backwards. Fix your teeth, drink your tea, and watch some football.
Oh and to all of those who are saying the pike is now dead because of the deadbait insert. Fox (who make them) are one of the biggest tackle retailers in Europe, it's just a hunch but don't you think they researched intot the effects of them being left inside the pike before releasing the product? Some fish will have all sorts inside their stomach, stones, gravel and debri from feeding on the bottom as only fish such as carp are able to eject the bits which they can't break down for food.
You're kidding me right. How can you call that deep hooked? The top treble was in the edge of the Jaw. He just unhooked it with ease, I've seen idiots fishing pegs next to me that have got themselves in all sorts of trouble and haven't had the right unhooking equipment to sort it out. If you carry two decent pairs of forceps and a pair of long nosed wire cutters you'll unhook any pike with ease no matter where the hooks are. I've been piking for over 10 years and have never had any issues.
2 Things, only an ask,I don't know.I've never had confidence to "Chin Up" a Pike, does it hurt them or me,I use a net,but have found that then the hook can get in the net,get twisted and tangled, which is why I have cuts in my net,2nd,did you Fanny around too long playing the fish to get good film,I'd have got it in quicker,am I a Bully? If you keep the rod side on,not high up,I don't think the fish would be swimming on and jumping above the surface, keep them in the water, don't dangle them?
There will always be times when deep hooking cannot be prevented. Matt retrieved the hooks just fine. However, what about the balsa stick inside the pikes gut! I thought that this was attached to the treble. Maybe the pike will digest this?? I hope so!!
sorry everybody, but matt was kind of carless with that fish - i know you shouldnt strike traight away, and you should let the fish engulf the bait, but with a run like he had there the pike was obviously well hooked. then he shows us tht the bait is actually in the pike's stomach! if there was a treble in there that could potentially kill that fish!!
He didnt leave it that long, but it was long enough!, the problem with fishing a popped up bait like this is that the fish can take the bait "in situe" i,e come up to it, take it down and swallow the lot (which is what happened here) before you get an indication on the alarm, and even the flot sometimes. Its frustrating to loose fish by hitting them early, but please believe me its a lot nicer than having to turn their stomach out to get trebles / pop up balsa sticks out of there stomach.
All very well fishing in Cuba or Tobago, but not many people can go to exotic plkaces. How about some sea fishing around UK> coast, and explaining the baits and lures. It seems to be the same thing all the time on television now.
a good tip on popping up the dead bait but i prefare mick browns way of using polystyrene(little white balls used in packaging) to insert in dead bait to pop up. not sure how a pike would pass wood in it waste.but good vid anyway
@jkgoude pike will pass even metal easily as they have very strong acid and quick metabolism. Good tip on using poly for pop up btw. Also try air through needle and syringe.
@jkgoude the pike cant see the would and they probobly cant tasteit because they swallow it right away plus the wood makes the fish look more plump. but anyway ill deffently try that other method and ill see with one is better
nobody comes on and says " i dont care if anyone believes me " .. ur an ass... Who gives a fuck if he is... what do u want a fucking scented letter and a medal.....
but wasn't it still in the bait once he'd got the pike on the bank, he pointed it out in its mouth, does the float stick come out the bait when you get a take?:)
If the pike swallows any buoyant material it messes up its swim bladder and can kill it. The trace is to make sure you can retrieve the pop up.
