BMT -Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia

I want to know more about sickle cell trait combined with thalassemia trait. why is my grandchild diagnosis with sickle cell when his mother has the trait for thalassemia and the father has the sickle trait and he has been healthy except when he was on pencillin, he could not keep his food down. antibiotics can cause resistance and weaken the immune system. reinarib@yahoo.com any help would be appreciated

hi i'm 15 and i have thalassemia minor... i just wanted to learn more about it because the doctor says it slows growth and puberty... does anyone know if this is true or not. Thanks!!

I had that same question years ago yodamaster1993. Yes it can slow groth and puberty but mainly in those whoare major. I'm alpha thalassemic minor as well and so far, no problems except being tired and low energy all the time.

it seems like the kids with thalessemia patients dont do well with the bone marrow transplant i have a 2 year old with thalessemia major and a 5 year old with sickle cell it is horrible and ive seen some of their friends die from the bmt so im too scared to let them do the bmt on my son sorry to hear sbout ur daughter may she rest in peace
