And another crappy structure in one of the lesser neighborhoods of charleston bites the dust. I like how you can hear guys bickering at the beginning lol typical low country rabble rousers.
Parked in collapse zone under power lines. Guys walking in collapse zone under power lines without full PPE. Running over hose line. Long time to get water flowing. Good training video...on what not to do.
@Playswithfire304 Wow! Look out everyone we have a 28 year old firefighting genius! From what I saw, The guys were doing a reverse lay from the begining. The other engine could have moved a little further but i'm sure these guys know THEIR town well enough to know the buildings. That guy under the line was telling guys to NOT walk under it and to look out. When a fire is that far advaced, getting H2O on it fast isn't the answer, making sure you have a 100% no problem water source for big H2O is.
@Playswithfire304 Also it's a dry line there tough guy, what's it gonna do make it flater? Last time I checked, if your not going in a fire why wear full PPE in the middle of the summer? Do you wear full PPE when you have a backyard bomb fire? That's what I thought. Quit trying to quarterback something you know nothing about, jackwaggon. You wanna learn something, come ride in Chicago, nevermind, you wouldn't like how we do things genius.
@ffp152 Running over an uncharged line will cause more damage by hyperflexing the edges, it's better to run over a charged line providing nothing will catch it on the chassis. And if you have a 750-1000 gallon tank, it would be better to hit the structure with a deck gun and let the second engine establish water supply. It will retard the fire spread, which is exponential. Now of course that depends on how far out they are, but the 2nd due was not far behind in this case.
@ffjsb Question smart guy, If I am running over a charged handline, who is on the operating end of it and where are they located? And yes you can run over a dry line any time you would like, you will never hyperflex the edges...that's just like saying don't hit a bedroom fire from the outside window cause your gonnna push it through the house. Joke! It takes experience to learn not a book. Bottom line, Great Job Charleston, keep fightin brothers!
@ffp152 First thing, it was not a handline but a LDH supply line that was run over. And it was not laying flat it was twisted which is probably worse. Pay attention. Your cocky attitude does not impress me, I probably have as much experience as you, maybe more. The fact is, running over a charged line WITH CARE, does less damage over time than running over an uncharged line. And your analogy has nothing to do with this situation.
@ffjsb I would never try to impress you, you are too much of a firefighting dream to impress and I want nothing more then to be just as good as you. If you truely had experience you would know that running over a charged line will 9 times out of 10 bust it with or without care. Either way I don't want to sit here and argue with a genuis cause obviously i'll lose.....like I said before Steven Hawkins, "Great Job Charleston, keep fightin brothers."
@ffp152 You lost the arguement before you started. You talked about running over a handline, when it was a LDH supply line that was run over. You don't seem to know much about hydraulics, or the principals of how you can lift with low pressure. Here's a little experiment for you, stand on an garden hose with a closed nozzle and then turn on the water. I bet it lifts you up. LDH is tested to 200 psi. Any of this starting to clicK?
Parked within collapse zone. Parked under overhead obstructions. Engine was on scene for over 3 minutes and still had no water supply established. Engine ran over LDH.
@KevinZGreen a lot has changed,,, 10 years ago this would have been a two engine booster fire...today, i lost count on how many engines arrived... rusty ruined this dept and chief carr is completing the job...
Just to correct the description a bit: Engine 109 was originally dispatched for a single engine call for a smell of smoke in the area. The beginning of video shows them as they have first arrived and call for a full assignment. This incident took place in Engine 109's second run area.
Great idea to move the engine from the collapse zone, but the Ladder came in a bit fast for my preference...And when is it ok to run over fire hose...it could be your lifeline, wouldn't ever chance that.
Was there an earthquake?
