@AmericanHorseman98 Approach the catapult and switch to external view to get to the proper position - your front wheel must stop in the red square (get there very slowly, or you will have to go around if you miss the spot). When you are in position, hold the brakes and press Shift+U to extend the launch bar. Now press Shift+I to arm the catapult and make sure you are attached to it. You can release the brakes. When you are ready with flaps and throttle, press Shift+Space to launch :)

Nice flying skills. Put mine to shame. That Goshawk looks better than my payware one from Abacus. I've noticed that they make pretty bad aircraft in general.

Probably youtube is just putting an ad there because it knows the song is in the video and people are asking for it in the comments. But I don't get anything out of it :) I don't use TrackIR, I know it helps tremendously when you fly in formation, but I manage to keep a tight formation by using the HAT switch on my joystick. @Nicholas7478i The session name can be different. How it works is - you or one of your friends host a session and tell you the name of the session on Skype or another messenger, then you just join the session and fly together.
@pikachu2537208 You can use the Carrier Practice mission and change weather, wind, season, time of day. There are also carriers in free flight - google "Aircraft carrier in default scenery". You can also put a carrier manually anywhere you want with a freeware program called AICarriers2.
@new5orleans2saints1 My PC is 1.5 years old now - I bought it in June 2009. CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 3.80 GHz, nVidia GeForce 9800GTX+, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD (7200 rpm). And I also have a really good joystick and I know a lot of people use it and are happy with it - Saitek X52 Pro :)
@degigi2003 Thanks for the quick feedback! I bought the Saitek Yoke along with FSX Gold Edition, but I'm a bit worried about how well my desktop can run it. Processor: AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core 2.50 GHz, 4GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics Card. If you know anything about how well FSX runs on something along the lines of these specs that would be awesome if you could feed me in. Thanks!
@new5orleans2saints1 Well, unfortunately I am not very familiar with AMD processors and ATI cards :) If the components are fairly new (came out in the last 1-2 years) they should run it fine. You can also cut back a little in the details, clouds etc, to get a decent fps.
@degigi2003 You need a way better graphics card, your CPU is fine.. try getting a better GPU.. i suggest the nVidia GTX 260 or ATI HD Radeon 5000 or 6000 Series
@Skimmitar88 Actually my video card is unnecessary faster for FSX, i.e. it is not the bottleneck in performance. Flight Simulator does not benefit from a fast graphics card like other video games, it is very CPU intensive because it is simulator. I could have bought nVidia 9600 with the same CPU and it would have produced the same performance as my current configuration. Also FSX is not optimized for additional cores, that's why I chose the fastest dual core processor.
FSX is very CPU dependant. Graphics cards dont play a big role in its performance. Even a budget card from recent ATI/NVIDIA series can run it more then just decently. AMD performs better in the budget CPU markets, in the high end cpu market intels core I7 - I9 has far better performance then AMD cpus. These are the configs that run extremely dense texture settings on their machines.
On FSX im always happy when I hit a average 15-20FPS in high density areas.
@sully3600 Sure, check the "Unofficial F/A-18 Acceleration Pack board". We don't do this now as often as before, but if there is a session it is usually on Saturday around 13:00 Pacific Time. The session uses Orion's Nimitz carrier ops mission. The reason we don't do this so often is because everyone is developing something instead of flying :))

Um im new to flight sims, could someone explain how MP works please, i mean it's a great vid but theres no markers to say who the other planes are, they might as well be AI.
@Punk1984Rock You can turn the aircraft labels on and off, I keep them off, because it's more realistic and I know the people I am flying with :) To log in mutliplayer, you need to register a free account at gamespy.com and then use that username and password in the log in screen in the FSX multiplayer menu. Once you are connected, you can choose a session to join or make your own session. We usually use Skype to chat and coordinate where to fly and what to do :)

@gerry7man555 You must absolutely have a joystick! Unlike a racing game, where you don't necessarily need a steering wheel to play, in an aircraft the controls are more complicated (ailerons, elevators, trim and throttle) and you need a joystick. I have Saitek X52 Pro, but the Saitek X52 should be just as good and I know a lot of people use it, it's about $90.
@bhrdjalex This is Flight Simulator X: Acceleration. You can buy Flight Simulator X, Gold Edition, which contains the Acceleration Pack, from an online store. The Acceleration Pack is an extension, which includes the carrier operations and the F/A-18 Hornet.
@IKroINiiIKz Hi, I don't have such shots in this video, but you basically use the hat (POV) switch on your joystick. If your view is not centered, press Ctrl+Space - this will reset the view direction and backspace to reset the zoom. You can also use a TrackIR, but it's quite expensive.
@TenDuotrigintillion Yes, this is multiplayer, but I have the player labels (name, aircraft, distance and altitude) switched off. There is a key combination: "CTRL + SHIFT + L".
@Mustafacc0 First, you have to create an account at gamespy.com, it's free. Then you just go the Multiplayer menu (on the left of the main FSX screen) and use your gamespy username and password to login. Then you can choose a lobby where to join a multiplayer session or start your own session. Your friends must do the same, and all join the same session :) We also use Skype to talk to each other while FSX is running, because the FSX multiplayer chat sucks :)

@kevrachel1 Well, if you don't care about multiplayer, the big deal are really the F/A-18 Hornet and the carrier operations. It is really the best carrier operations ever implemented in a computer game in my opinion, which you can see from some of my other videos as well. This is why I bought the game and my computer :) Also I didn't really play multiplayer for about 6 months in the beginning.
@degigi2003 Thanks for the feedback. As an ex brown shirt on the carrier Midway, and plane captain of the F-18 I have owned MANY F-18 sims. Watching your vids clearly shows this is the best out right now. I will upgrade to Gold, and who knows, might enjoy flying with others. Thanks again and keep up the great vids.
@kevrachel1 I have to correct myself about something - you can actually play multiplayer even with the standard edition, but just free flight. The multiplayer missions are introduced in Acceleration - missions allow to do air racing, the carrier landing mission that you see in the video etc. But if you care about carrier landings, you will have to get Acceleration (or Gold) anyway :)
@kevrachel1 Wow, if you have such experience with the F/A-18 and carriers, you should check the "Unofficial F/A-18 Acceleration Pack board" on the fsdreamteam forum. It's best place to offer and get advice about carrier landings, the Hornet or the game in general :)

@gerry7man555 You must absolutely have a joystick! Unlike a racing game, where you don't necessarily need a steering wheel to play, in an aircraft the controls are more complicated (ailerons, elevators, trim and throttle) and you need a joystick. I have Saitek X52 Pro, but the Saitek X52 should be just as good and I know a lot of people use it, it's about $90.

@bhrdjalex This is Flight Simulator X: Acceleration. You can buy Flight Simulator X, Gold Edition, which contains the Acceleration Pack, from an online store. The Acceleration Pack is an extension, which includes the carrier operations and the F/A-18 Hornet.

@IKroINiiIKz Hi, I don't have such shots in this video, but you basically use the hat (POV) switch on your joystick. If your view is not centered, press Ctrl+Space - this will reset the view direction and backspace to reset the zoom. You can also use a TrackIR, but it's quite expensive.

@TenDuotrigintillion Yes, this is multiplayer, but I have the player labels (name, aircraft, distance and altitude) switched off. There is a key combination: "CTRL + SHIFT + L".

@Mustafacc0 First, you have to create an account at gamespy.com, it's free. Then you just go the Multiplayer menu (on the left of the main FSX screen) and use your gamespy username and password to login. Then you can choose a lobby where to join a multiplayer session or start your own session. Your friends must do the same, and all join the same session :) We also use Skype to talk to each other while FSX is running, because the FSX multiplayer chat sucks :)

@Mustafacc0 Yes, I think you can add them as friends in the multiplayer menu, and if they are online you will see them in green and you can write them a message.

Hey, nice vid man. I'm just curious. I am not interested in flying with friends. Besides the F-18 and carriers, what are the other additional features? Just wanted to know if it is worth buying it or not. Oh, strong tune by the way.

@kevrachel1 Well, if you don't care about multiplayer, the big deal are really the F/A-18 Hornet and the carrier operations. It is really the best carrier operations ever implemented in a computer game in my opinion, which you can see from some of my other videos as well. This is why I bought the game and my computer :) Also I didn't really play multiplayer for about 6 months in the beginning.

@degigi2003 Thanks for the feedback. As an ex brown shirt on the carrier Midway, and plane captain of the F-18 I have owned MANY F-18 sims. Watching your vids clearly shows this is the best out right now. I will upgrade to Gold, and who knows, might enjoy flying with others. Thanks again and keep up the great vids.

@kevrachel1 I have to correct myself about something - you can actually play multiplayer even with the standard edition, but just free flight. The multiplayer missions are introduced in Acceleration - missions allow to do air racing, the carrier landing mission that you see in the video etc. But if you care about carrier landings, you will have to get Acceleration (or Gold) anyway :)

@kevrachel1 Wow, if you have such experience with the F/A-18 and carriers, you should check the "Unofficial F/A-18 Acceleration Pack board" on the fsdreamteam forum. It's best place to offer and get advice about carrier landings, the Hornet or the game in general :)
