Ryo is the second Mr. Karate after Takuma retired. Since Fatal Fury takes place after Art of Fighting, Takuma is either retired or dead (SNK never says), and Ryo, in his 50's, becomes the new Mr. Karate.
As far as I'm aware of, Ryo's Mr. Karate only appears in this, Buriki One and KOF MI2, and each of those is a different version of him as Mr. Karate. Takuma's Mr. Karate in pretty much everything else.
Ryo weighs more than Terry in reality. Robert is not that bulky. Robert is explained in AOF as a Batman like shape (200-210) while Ryo is more of 230-235 lbs.
Beat the game without losing a round and without using continues. If you defeat him in the fight, you will get him and Data mode. However, if you lose to him, (and don't continue) you will only get Data mode.

Against the original Ryo? Snk basically regards them as equals, with Robert at his peak in the mix as well.
The introduction of KOFMI2, speaks for itself. And cannonwise, going by the original timeline, they both regard each other as the best rivals.
Yeah, some are good characters. But not al, IMO. Ash is...well. Not what i consider a figthing character design.

Look at all of past games with Ryo and Terry in it. In the winquotes, intros you always find them talking like they are longtime sparring partners or fighting/facing each other in intros.
Even to the fact that Ryo in his KOF age is an equal rival to Terry. If Ryo goes by his real age, when he is Mr. Karate, Ryo is one whole level stronger than Terry up to boss level.

Also Terry vs Ryo rivalry can also be seen in KOF 95, KOF 98 (99 Dreamcast), SvC: Chaos, and in almost all of KOF winquotes if you beat Ryo by Terry or beat Terry by Ryo.
Counting the ones you mentioned, that is 6 games where Ryo n'Terry are shown as rivals/fighting in the opening sequence of the game, with KOF MI 2 being the most lengthy and accurate.

What MisterWhat is saying is not his opinion but an understanding of someone who follows indepth SNK's intentions and storys and game/character aspects.
Ryo has always been Terry's toughest friendly rival.
Like I said, just search youtube for SNK game intro scenes, like KOF 98 Dreamcast, or KOFMI2, or NGBC, or KOF 94/95 etc.
All of them plus more feature a Terry vs Ryo scene.
Even that the new official KOF XII promo poster features an epic rendition of a Terry vs Ryo fight.
