  • Hi, really great (I sing it every week under the shower lol) unfortunatly it's impossible to find the lyrics of this version (who's the best one for me). Anybody have an idea of the lyrics ? (there're not Gaunaud ones) Thanks !

  • Was watching Fantasia off youtube and realized theirs a song by the same name, anyone know story about that or is Kanno just a fan and decided to call it the same name?

  • @SmokingWickerman i believe the music was written by Johann Sebastian Bach and the words were written by Charles Gounod in 1859... or something like that

  • this is the kind of shit that makes you sit down and rethink life, the kind of shit that moves mountains, parts the heavens, and makes cryin' babies shut the fuck up

  • @ClowChain2 really? gets me to live a little be harder, love a little bit deeper, pack back with more intrest...

  • @GrigoriZhukov guess that works too

  • It's latin ladies and gentlemen

  • @ anikinkid and Atrumlux. These are not the original "ave maria" words. Those are

Ave Maria, gratia plena, dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesu. Sancta Maria, mater die, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in ora mortis nostre, amen.

You'll notice these don't match up with the song. And I've been searching for years for the lyrics. I've decided to call the label and ask for direction, just haven't gotten around to it.

  • awesomeness

  • This song is just amazing. when used in anime it's usually a sign that shit is about to go down

  • The lyrics are in Latin, just google "Ave Maria lyrics".

  • An absolute beautiful piece of work. No matter which version of Ave Maria I hear they all are so wonderful

  • I also searched for the lyrics but now I'm starting to think it's another song that Yoko Kanno used his fake language on. How upsetting :(

  • @amberstoocool lol i never checked I just always thought Italian? XD lol

  • @amberstoocool *her* fake language. I'm torn as to whether it's the Latin or not...it's hard to tell with operatic vocals.

  • @amberstoocool fake language? youre retarded. and yoko kanno is a woman.

  • @amberstoocool I'm gonna have to agree on the fake language thing because there are no lyrics to this song.

  • @amberstoocool fake language? what kind of pot are you smoking

  • @DjDarkIce The strain we all long for!

  • @DjDarkIce Yoko Kanno likes to use a bunch of made-up syllables, sometimes, in some of her songs. Like at the start of the song "Blue", which isn't actually supposed to correspond to any words. Just...syllable sounds.

  • @amberstoocool Yeah that fake language that most of your language is derived from. Idiot from the Latin word idiota.

  • I don't know how, I've listened to this song over 300 times (seriously), and yet it still sounds just as amazing as the first time.

  • +.+ my god... SO wonderfull...

Live is just a dream ♥

  • let there be something innocent that one may remember our past after the ashes settle....lest we be bound to repeat a history so unbearable we destroyed ourselves to escape it.

  • @blueongold Thats beautiful

  • @blueongold where did you get that from? It's awesome.

  • I pray now for those lost in hell, I see them desperate to escape, free will lost in illusion...mislead to believe the treacherous acts they perform now are their own. The masochist is dead and they fret away at the whim of evil, but a humorous reminder to the sinful and chaotic that something is wrong. God save us all... I pray you send archers.

  • what are you talking about?

  • Can anyone post the lyrics for this?? It's not the latin prayer and I've been searching all over. Anyone know where I can find them? Any help is appreciated :D

I love this piece. I want to arrange it for a tenor voice and piano, so I really need those lyrics lol.

  • I second that, I need them for the exact same reason you do.

  • IIRC these are nonsense lyrics made to sound like latin.

  • i love this show

  • I believe this is in Polish. Jerzy Knetig used to sing for the Warsaw Polytechnic and sang for the Warsaw Philharmonic with Anthony Inglis conducting.

    Looking for lyrics now....

Yoko Kanno has composed some of the most beautiful pieces ever. Music for Macross Plus, The Vision of Escaflowne and Cowboy Bebop. She's incredible.

  • I meant to say study at the Polytechnic school in Warsaw. One would believe this version would be Polish.

  • does anyone know the words to THIS VERSION? They are not the same as the one by Schubert and I would really like to know what they are :P

  • This is a really lovely version of one of my favourite pieces of music. Close your eyes and just let it wash over you.

  • Yoko Kanno composed this beautiful piece!

  • I still dont know much about this version of Ave Maria. It's almost nothing like Bach's Aria people always sing. I want to know who composed this version. I like it much better than the traditional version.

  • Yoko Kanno

  • YES!!!!!!!!! Please tell me where you found this!?

  • It's from cowboy bebop. You can find the mp3's all over the internet by searching for cowboy bebop mp3 downloads.

  • 3:35 to the end is the best part for me!

  • does anyone one who composed this version i know its not the schubert or bach version. i remember reading it was from an opera but cant remember anything about it so if anyone knows do tell

  • Have you been answered yet? I'm aldo looking forward the name of the composser. Everyboy keeps saying it was Schubert, but he wrote another one, and more famous than this one. It was neither Bach, nor Gounod. I die to know!!!!

  • yea ive found who composed it. it was yoko kanno she composed this version so thats why it was really hard to find the composer. but yea to set the record straight this version is just yoko's own interpretation of ave maria.

  • Hmmm..Anyway to locate the sheet music or an arrangement?

  • you can always check the web but ive never seen one and unless some transcribes it the only sheet music available is with the Warsaw Philharmonic and Yoko

  • what language is it ?

  • Latin

  • oh and while I don't know very much latin, I do know that the words "ave maria" mean "hail mary" in reference to the virgin mary.

I could probably spend more time actually translating this piece but I personally don't want to know the words. I just think this man sings something too beautiful for words to possibly say.

  • anikinkid .The original lyrics to ave maria are simply the latin words for hail mary(the prayer) rather than a monotone chant from people that didn't want to wake up on a sunday, prayers USED TO be sung by the congragation. I don't mean that horrible tone def excuse for singing you find in today's catholic churches. I mean real singing.

  • I appreciate the info, I didn't know that it was the standard prayer for ave maria, nor did i really care to though.

I find it interesting that you use the words "real singing." To me, this is real singing. I've heard about a dozen different versions of this song and this is my personal favorite. It touches my soul in a way I can't describe and I don't want to be able to. This just is what it is and it is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard and nothing anyone can say will change that

  • It's like trying to define "real beauty" or even reality in general for that matter. My reality is what I believe it to be and what I consider to be real singing, real beauty, is this song. I can't help but think of that one line from the shawshank redemption when I hear this song.

"I have no idea... what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid...and for the briefest of moments, every last man in shawshank felt free."

  • You misunderstand. I wasn't saying this wasn't real singing. This is perhaps the most beautiful version of ave maria I've ever heard. Definitely my favorite version. What I meant was more along the lines of "DAMN! You don't hear them like THIS in church these days."

  • ohhhh! ok, i'm sorry, I did misunderstand you. I'm glad you share my sentiments then, thank you.

  • True, sadly most people in churches are impressed with that typical rock garbage rather than real singing.

  • "rock garbage"? There's beautiful singing in every genre of music. That definitely includes rock. It's all opinion though. For me, passion and emotion is the most important thing behind singing and music in general, but that's personal opinion. I'll agree that a lot of MODERN rock music doesn't really have the emotion it used to, but I won't put that genre down because I know nothing about it.

  • Actually I enjoy alot of Rock and Metal. However, the new age of rock just dosen't do it for me. Just like Rmb of today is nothing more then a stolen backbeat with vocals that can be easily manapulated with the recording programs.

  • @Romans10Verse9 scream-o? i think not...

  • @6agenthawk

Yep that too. A lot of Pop Scream-o is fake and the scream is a gimmick. But there are less popular people that scream with emotion I assure you.

  • Please dont compare Freddy Mercury or Samus from Acdc to typical rock garbage of today, remember that everything has its golden age and so did rock

  • Keyword, "typical" I don't consider classic rock as typical rock.

  • Really good song. But actually I think it was performed by the Warsaw Philharmonic with Jerzy Knetig. At least that's what I've always seen it credited as. But thanks for uploading!

  • If you read the video desc, you'll see I got the Jerzy Knetig part right at least.

  • this version is nice... but, i prefer the one of Vienna Boys Choir! that one is kick ass!!!

  • Arg what're the lyrics?!?!

  • shh. you're dumb.

  • Thanks for uploading this... T_T
