@ysoucy83 I can't understand half of the dialogue in movies today, but I understand every word she sings! But then I grew up in Virginia many decades ago. Oh, and I know the song by heart! :)
Some people take parts of this song. And if you say something about it they say that your comment is unapropriate. I like this song. It is a sexy song. Try to improve it???
@virginianspirit I'm 13 and I like these songs :) It's a special feeling when you listen to old records like this. I don't like all Carter Family song's but the most of them :)
MrTilgath and josh, I'm 14 2! Its such a shame other kids our age don't appreciate this wonderful music. I did a project on the Carter Family at school and they looked at me like I was crazy :D
I never tire of this song though I must have heard it hundreds of time. I think I first heard it in 1939 or 40 by Roy Acuff on the Grand Ole Opery. Nobody did it better than the Carter Family. Thanks for the post.
Sara is the lead on this song as she was on practically every song recorded by the Original Carter Family. A.P. did the lead on a couple and Maybelle did some joint lead work with Sara on "Hello Stranger". It was Sara's voice that could cut through all the static of the early recording that were done on wax. That is why, if you have a good re recording ot the Original group, you can distinguish about every word. The formula was Sara in lead, Maybelle singing harmony, and A.P singing bass.
I cannot find any reference to say with any certainty if that is Sara or Maybelle singing. Was it just the standard "division of labor" that Sara sang lead and Maybelle played guitar accompanyment? I would be glad to hear any authority on this. Thanks.
I wish music would go back to the roots. So much has been lost because songs are sung to make money, not to have fun. I miss my family picking sessions that my grandparents and their friends use to do in the summer. Just gther around and enjoy.
This very song started country music, that in its turns started rock n roll! together with the blues. So you can say that this song is the very root of all modern music
Anyway, I love the old stuff too. I love the old Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Roy Acuff, Bill Monroe, Stringbean, Ernest Tubb, Grandpa Jones, and (of course) The Carter Family. By the way please do not misinterpret my last comment of being racist, I was simply implying that I can't believe people listen to the music they do today. My apologies.
Imagine a long time ago. Living off the land, working in the fields. All you have to look forward to is a little music on your old Motorola radio. Then imagine all your family listening to the famous Carter family. It was a long time ago, and it was pure music. Picking and a strumming and singing songs of a hundred years ago. What a wonderful world.
i just love the carter family some of my family says maybells voice gets on their nerves i think its a pure country voice people likealan jackson dolly parton and johnny and june carter cash have kept country music alive and have not changed it whats happened with it today. well the old artists doing new stuff is good. why dont other teens like me love classic country???
You're not alone... I'm fifteen and I'm the ONLY STUDENT in my school who listens to Roy Acuff. All kids listen to today is squeaky teen boys, black guys with their pants to their knees (if not, a white guy who thinks he's black) freaks with black hair covering half their face... In the words of the late, great

I like old things, and I like peace, and I admire Jesus, but religion ain't the answer--common sense and the "go0lden rule" is.

@metalkat77 Its hard to respond to a call to "return to the old things" that is posted on the internet.
I think it would be better to remember and honor the old things as we live our new lives.
