@lasuvidaboy Side impact requirements have killed off the "big greenhouse" design of the 1950's and 1960's. Modern cars have higher window sill levels so you won't bash your brains out on the window when you are t-boned. This is why these "retro" 1930's designs are more popular. The new "muscle cars" may look like the ones from the 1960's, but the window sills are at eye level. It is a shame, because I liked the Jetsons look. The BMW CS coupe of that era was beautiful too.
Some folks claim the whole "Neuclasse" BMW designs of that era were copied, in part, from the Corvair. There is a similarity between the reverse slant grill of the 1602/2002 and the 65 Corvair, and the taillights (the original round ones) are also strikingly similar. But I don't know which came first or who copied who, or whether they were just design trends of the era.
@TroutButter Excuse me. The car in the commercial is equipped with a turbo-charged single carburetor ENGINE, rather than a naturally aspirated 4 carburetor ENGINE as specified by the narrative. You can tell because the turbo-charged single carburetor ENGINE equipped cars only had one exhaust tip exiting through a cutout on the right rear of the car, and the exhaust on the 4 carburetor equipped ENGINES exited under the bodywork on both sides. Pedantic bastard. You knew what I meant.
I had 3 of these at various times in my life. Best car I ever owned as far as fun-to-drive goes! I miss my 'Vairs.

Why can't any car maker built a compact two AND four door HARDTOP (a pillarless design) like the 1965-69 Corvair??

@lasuvidaboy Because today there's no sense of beauty and style in cars.

Now that's funny. "new 140 horsepower 4 carburetor motor" and it's a 180 horse turbo car in the commercial.

@bigredelko He said rear engine, not "motor"
