just wondering, but could a pianist apply his ability to the vibraphone or marimba, etc? the layout is the same. and vice versa, could this guy also play this piece on the piano?
Yes, in fact, the vibraphone is a keyboard instrument, so a good pianist would have certain advantages , though there are many technical aspects specific to the vibes that even a good pianist would have to work a lot at in order to achieve finesse in their playing. That is also true they other way around. I can play this piece on the piano, but not with the finesse of a great pianist.
Thanks. Yes, pieces like these are all about dampening, so they are a good vehicle to work on different techniques, sound, etc. The mallets were home made, not quite what I wanted, but at the time I was experimenting with different things and finally got to my ideal. It is manufactured as Vic Firth M38. Try them out. Gustavo

So beautiful! Clear sound, accuracy, great touch...
I can nearly hear my father playing the organ in my childhood town church... strangely with some similarity in the sound, plus that magical vibes touch! Thanks you Gustavo.
lol also wondering, would a third mallet per hand be out of the question? lol

I don't know if you are a mallet player, but that was a very good observation. Thanks for commenting.

Hey man, great performance! I can see Ed's influence ;) Very clear dampening and pedaling! Wish Bach had seen a vibes in his time ;P

Hi Errol,
Thanks. It's a work in progress.
I think Ed mentioned a while back that you are down in Miami. I go there often. May be we could hang for a bit one of these days.

You know - check on You Tube - that VERY FEW people can play with that clarity on phrasing. Your dampening is VERY VERY mastered and accurate.
Bad luck for the very few wrong notes. In BACH that kills you !
I like the way you play vibes !!!

That must be difficult. You need to adjust the gap between the sticks while playing, right?
