This song was first released in 1979 on the Capitol label as a single, but it was later featured on his self-titled debut album on the Rock & Roll label. It was also a take on the Knacks big hit "My Sharona".
True, but that's what makes it so damn funny! When I was a kid, I laughed my ass off at that part. And I still think it's hilarious. Weird Al freakin' rules!
Weird Al will never go out of style - he changes with the times, and he just keeps getting better. Not only is he an extremely talented parodist and a decent singer (when he's not singing "badly" for comical effect), his humor is clean too. It's a true testament to his talent that he's still in business after more than 25 years. How many other so-called novelty acts have lasted as long? Weird Al Rocks!
The one person who disliked it was Magnum from EncyclopediaDramatica who thinks that all parodies fall under plargiarism.

I've never heard this version with a whole band. I just remember the one with just him and his accordion on the Dr Demento Show on KMET
