I purchased the version without flaps, and I never added them on. The plane lands great without them. I did put flaps on the FW-190, and they work fine, except they slow me down too much at times. On the P-51 I can get away without them on the short field, on the 109, they are absolutely needed.
nice video, correct me if im wrong but it looks like you did not use flaps on the P-51 landings, is there a reason for that? I heard they work really well on the Mustang. Anyway nice landings.
@herishidesigns Hehehe.... I have to be able to get the planes on and off. Ther rest can wait till it dries out more. Plus it is ha pretty much stopped growning for the season anyway.
MrRCflying, Thanks for the friend request on Facebook,Now you can see my pix of my crashed F-4 Phantom and the repair pix. I have more pix of 2 more planes that I built and I am working on building the 3rd. I'll put them up as soon as I can Mr BlueAngel11
Thanks for reply , if you like to see me flying EDF off grass , search for hobby king MB-339 by Ross . Have fun , by the way i saw the color of the trees , winter is in the way .LOL
MrRCflying, When you told me about compiling vids of takeoffs and landing I could not wait to see them. This morning I watched, and all I can say is amazing job Taking off an bringing those planes in time after time on such a small strip. Excellent Pilot, cause there are no room for errors. P-51 blew me away. Great Job!!! Mr BlueAngel11
@MrBlueAngel11 That was every single take off and landing I did that evening. I did not eliminate any. The first P-51 landing was a little long, other than that, they were pretty good. Not that all my landings are that good, some days I can land for darn. :) I sent you a friend request in Facebook.
I think this strip is a great instructional tool due to its size. Again, great flying. 2 questions: What are the dimensions of the strip and what motor are you running in that mustang? Thanks for the info and the inspiration.
@roastedghost The motor is the stock motor that came with the P-51. In fact, it is all stock including the TX, except for the new spinner and 2 blade prop. I measured the strip at 63 fett originally, I tacked on a couple extra feet near the garage, but it is still less than 70 feet. The first 15-20 are not that useable for landing as the bushes have grown over the summer and you need to maintain a little above them, so it makes the landings go a little long. Probably 15 foot wide.
When I first saw your little airstrip in a previous video I thought you would be severly limited as to what you could fly there due to its size. Then I see you're going to take off and land the P-51 and I thought to myself, this will be interesting. Lets see how long it takes him to plant that Mustang in the ground. But I have to say, you certainly have a handle on setting that bird down on a short strip. Excellent flying! You are forced to line up properly and there is little room for error.
@roastedghost It is not all roses. :) I have busted the landing gear out of the wings a few times with hard landings, ended up in the swamp a few times, and busted the wing on the P-51 once on take off. It torqued to the left bad and hit that white shed. Most of the time it is not a problem, but all it takes is one small mistake to make a bad evening. It is unforgiving.
Your son did a good job! looks like the P51 needs a bit more speed to come in before dropping down to land, but it is a warbird ( I have a Corsair, so same thing). Good to see the trees in fall, we are the opposite, its Spring in Australia.
@buellbruce Thank you! I try to land it right at stall speed. It should have a little more speed on landing, but that would cause me to overshoot. I wish it was spring here, I hate the fall and the long winters. No color for months, snow up to your butt.
@MrBnowak It will ocassionally roll under. I have tried to fix it a couple of times, but it keeps loosening up. It is not too bad, most of the time it is OK.
Nice very nice, great son , i got three of my own too ,G how how you do it landing in that short runway and going through all those trees . I liked it . thanks
@arcdirect I have 3 sons as well. They can be overwhelming at times. I love me though. It is not so bad after you have flown here for a while, the trees don't bother me any more.
Brilliant takeoffs and landings. They are absolutely impeccable .................... :-)
Excellent video work.
Man !! My fingers are itchy now . Have to go out and try to do some practice flying like what what you have just shown us on this video. Thank you so much .................
And this is just outside your house right? Man it's so cool to have a runway just OUTSIDE your house... Are your grassed shortly shaved like a golf course? lol or are your wheels super large?
@youronlycow Yep, this is just the other side of my garage, I keep the planes in the garage for easy access. It makes the wife happy that I don't have to pack everything up and go out for the evening flying. I can just say "going flying" and she knows where to find me. I keep the grass as low as I can. I am going to manicure it better next year.
