Brooches are very fashionable here in Malaysia. Women who wear scarves pin using brooches. I love the 40s. The clothing were fashionable but practical. [except for the hats and maybe the peek-a-boo bang.lol]
can i say it... "my gramma had one of those". and yes, i didn't live the era but i was 'fostered' by folks of that era and yeh, that pretty much corresponds with their information, among the items, tall tales and other things. yep, those were the days my friends.... i still remember the bonds, ration tickets and many other documents of that time they showed me and the effects still trailed onto the 70s in many things.
Great vid but you forgot one thing. The hats! They could get extravagant with the clothes so they made the hats extravagant as possible. I love this era and thanks for doing this amazing vid.
This is when ready-to-wear was created in the US because women couldn't get clothes from Paris anymore because most of the fashion houses had close. So they had to make their own clothes.
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this beautiful video. I am such a BIG FAN of classic movies from the 1940's and the fashion of that era. I am sending you a friend invite. LOL :)
THANKS Ivette, me too, I LOVE old movies. I am glad you enjoy the video. Thanks so much for the friends invite and in a slight different note I see you are also a supporter of Obama. Me too (even though I am not American). He would be great indeed!
Ivette I was just going to watch your video about London. Did you see the Christmas lights? They are really fantastic in London because they are rather eclectic (not the usual green and red but instead bright purples, turquoises and greens, really pretty).
Yes I did , it was by a ice skating rink by the Albert and Victoria Museum. Unfortunately in my video I did not include that picture because it came out too dark on the video. The people there were very nice and friendly from the cab drivers to tour guides. I would recommend to everyone to visit London and England in general at least once in their lifetime, I want to go back this summer or early fall. Thanks for your kind comments , you are a gem SL63 !:)
That was truly wonderful, and gave a lovely time-capsule overview of The Forties for those who are foggy about the era. Can you do one for the '50s, please? I think you should actually do one for every 20th century decade! That would rule!
Amanda, I have already done the video for the 1950's. Check it out on my channel. So far I have done the 20's 30's 40's 50' and I am hoping to complete the series with the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's.
I am very glad to hear that you enjoy this video! Thanks?)
The thing about post-modernism...hmmm.... We tend to think that most stuff has already been done... but then again, there are no limits to imagination...
Totally agree ziegfeldgrrl. I think we have seen evening dresses (made in silk or shiny fabrics) resembling the 1920's since the late 90's. Actually, I still remember some of the first I found, they were silk pleated evening dresses "Fortuny" style back in the mid 90's. Since 2002 though, we have seen a lot of "bias cut" dresses, skirts, etc., which I think it is most flattering...
ziegfeldgrrl, that is wonderful that your daughter is a collector of 1920's items. I agree about things coming back. Take the example of the "bias cut", we have seen a lot of "bias cut" designed dresses and skirts (even shirts and blouses) since 2001 or so.
We have seen a lot 1970s stuff as well coming back in the 2000's and I suppose a little of the 50's, 60's and 30's as well. Some of this season's prints are very late 1960's early 70's. I guess it is just part of post-modernism
Yes, hehe... A few weeks ago I found a video that was supposed to have 1940's fashions and instead I found a lot of late 1950's pictures. Also, the song featured in the video was "Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's...
It is nice to remember the fashions of the 20th century, because they were amazing and they can also inspire young designers...
Thanks a lot for your comments, ziegfeldgrrl...I thought that it would be important to either remember or learn more about the 20th century. I found that a lot of young people easily mistake the period between 1920's to 1950's, (especially with Fashions) therefore, I decided to make the videos. I am glad that you enjoy them...
