  • i heard this play in a bar i was in,while serving in the british army in germany,it made me so sad for home and all my mates back home, its the best song ever, lardsters dad

  • @Lardster142 I heard it when I was bombing Dresden.

  • I am really through this time.I have said it before, hurts like ,,,,, but it is for the best I don;t want someone who, doesn't care for me at all,not even a tiny bit.I was willing to wait for him,no matter how long it took.So it is time for someone else, the door is open all I have to do is walk through it.At least he wants to talk to me.

  • Roy Orbison had one of the most haunting voices ever heard. When I was a young man in the Navy in 1967 I was in a little Japanese Bar by myself at around 2 a.m. and Orbison's "Only The Lonely" came on the jukebox and I can well remember just about crying in my beer.

  • Goodbye Rangers. GIRFUY

  • Mr RobertJameson So old??

Have you read Roy's life story????

  • wow. I wish I'd been around to see him live

  • You never wanted to listen to Roy, after you just broke up with someone, his mornful songs would just destroy you.

  • Wow, he looked so old and lined at only 39.

  • @MrRobertJameson He'd been through an awful lot. You know his wife and kids died in a fire, i believe.

  • I heard he got an erection on the set during the taping of this program. Anyone witness that??

  • @DSherry68 No I didnt but thank God he was human. He was probably turned on by his own singing :)

  • I was blessed to see him once in concert -- must have been 1965. He was one of a kind and an amazing artist

  • Yes! pure émotion. I lovet. I'M fan. Roy Orbison. Thank you.

  • Distilled pure emotion

  • He was outstanding live , I saw 6 times in live concert , his voice is far better live and when he hit the high notes , it felt like the roof of the building would fall off because his voice was so powerful . I would rate him number one as a singer and I have seen many of the world's top acts live .

  • @thecherrytree333 Hello. I saw him twice, and yes, his voice WAS better live than on recordings amazingly

    enough.

  • Without question, The Great Roy Orbison had the voice of a great opera singer and injected that voice into his type of music that could reach the heart of his audience and cause you to feel and experience the essence and intent of his songs deeply. His music will live on and be an inspiration to those who follow in his profession as it has during his life time.

  • pure heart break, weve all felt it!

  • COMPLETE LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • elvis said he was far better than himself and thats true!!

  • this is GENIUS , if i do say so , myself

  • John Lennon said Orbison had the greatest voice in rock and roll. No argument here.

  • I hear he was not a nice man

  • Not true! After the Coconut Grove Show, Springsteen & Bonnie Raitt said he was so humbled that every single person invited had shown up, he was nearly in tears & responded, "You don't know how great it is to be wanted again!" He personally thanked every person down to the "handlers". After his wife, Claudette died in his arms on a roadside, their boys, 10&6, died in a house fire 2 yrs later. He was married to Barbara 19yrs. His family went with him on tours & they were devout Christians

  • @RichardElden it must be you ,looking in a mirror perhaps!

  • I'm confused when I was born because I listen too music before I was even born and I love it :)

  • Even King Elvis said Roy had the greatest voice in rock and roll! Unmatched!

  • Just another reason I am proud to be a Texan! The Eyes of Texas are still on you Roy!

  • ya dont have to be beautiful to be rememberd , god bless he big O, his talent shone throug and still shines on today. :))) forever in our hearts and ears.

  • I'm 62 and life has been quite a ride so far. I spent over 3 years in the Navy (196-71). I lived nearly 30 years as a functioning, at first, and then a dysfunctional drug addict. I got clean at the VA in 1995 and now have 16 years clean. Through all of that, the experiences and the time, Roy Orbison has always been part of my life. To this day, he can still bring a tear to my eye, put a smile on my face, and make me grateful in that I've been allowed to live even longer than he did. Thank God!

  • @DaveCarroll4 you have my utmost admiration. Keep on rocking man...

  • @DaveCarroll4 Amen!

  • The best.

  • Classic.

  • AMAZING.

  • We mere mortals toss out the words 'Greatness' and 'Genius'. One only has to listen to the immortal Roy Orbison to understand the true meaning of these terms. His truly is a voice for the ages. Vaya con Dios, Roy Orbison.

  • Pure Magic!

  • kippenvel

  • 2 mins & 58 secs of pure bliss! The word great is thrown about so easily today but I can honestly say that Roy was a true great. That voice can reduce a grown man to tears.

  • @711honved Yeah such emotion literally cuts thruw you :)

  • Need a DVD of this in true stereo.

  • His wife broke his heart, but at the same time the pain she caused him was the inspiration for his unbelievable music. Elvis said Roy was the greatest. How can you argue with the king?

    RIP brother.

  • Bill Dees is still writing songs like this one we just posted one take a look at it . its bill dees sweet butterfly you will like this song we are going in to the studio to record this song and release it Bill wont stop writing at 72 he is still this good at it

  • Comment removed

  • Yes very true, many people i kinow dont like ELVIS!DONT REALLY KNOW WHY,addmitted Roy had most unique voice!& sureley Elvis was part of the rockabilly` rock`n`roll era!!!

  • Even if you have a voice these days, if you don't have the looks to go with it, you can't get anywhere.

  • @Stunatra Even at age 75, if Roy wouldnt have had the looks, he would have still been knocking them dead with that voice.......this is the man who made music, stood there and didnt need to act like an ass on stage/

  • @Stunatra i totally agree with that comment! we live in a very fickle world

  • Elvis said he had the best male voice of all times and I agree with him.

  • no 1 in the world sings like roy did yall

  • i rest my case he rules

  • 2:33

  • Roy Orbison will always be missed, and I mean always. That man could sing his heart out, and maybe there's more than a little truth to this statement! It seemed sometimes that all of his grief came out whenever he sang, and whoever was in the audience could feel Roy's ALL whenever they heard Mr. Orbison sing. He has my enduring respect for his artistry.

  • i cant belive that a human can put so much beauty into words in this ugly cold discusting world, his songs are just magnificent unbelivable i fell like crying to lisen to his songs its pure love !!!!!! thank you roy - i love you soo much

  • I am glad I am not the only one who remembers and misses Roy Orbison! He was the greatest!

  • class, pure class!

  • I first heard Roy Orbinson in Dublin when I was about 15/16 i was taken to his concert by two older people. Did not know who he was at the time but he came on stage sat on a stool and sang his heart out. I couldn't get over the fact that this guy could hold an audience spellbound for so long. Have loved his music since then

  • To RichardElden - elvis looked bloody ugly before he died - and elvis didn't have the great voice Roy had

  • time tested, thumbs all the way

  • So much hurt, but still all in one take, no one can touch this fantastic human being.

  • nope she wont! i tryed, but now i feel like a stalker, mines a whiskey :)

  • @1hedgeful I hope its Jack Daniels its the best to get over what ever ails you.

  • When I was 16 I saw him in concert in Ireland and didn't who I was watching but I knew he was brilliant and he still is

  • @kateomprint Songs that got your heart, with a voice that was a gift to humanity.

  • A sad song always--sadder yet when it really is over. So, so sad--

  • Roy was amazing ... I love all of his songs. What a talent he was.

  • Someone just kill me, that voice is to die for.

  • I was living in Fort Ritchie, Mryland and was only 15 years old. My girlfriend left me for "Ronnie" and I really toought my life was over. And then I met Debbie Dahl Dillard from Virginia. I will never forget that time of my life. Thanks Roy.

  • Roy's voice was a magnificent instrument. If he'd had proper vocal training, he could have easily become a major opera singer. Instead, he was on his own...and spent his whole life exploring what he could do with his voice. What a gift to the whole world!

  • Roy Orbison n' est jamais parti il vit avec moi pour toujours QuelTrésor qu'il nous a laissé

    Mimi

  • What a voice. What writing. What emotion. Simple, and brilliant.

  • thank you for an excellent video of Roy, who is still missed by so many of us. Do you think his thank you at the end was a little 'poke' at Elvis?!

  • Thank goodness for youtube or we'd be forced to listen to whats out there today....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....

  • @LASchgos indeed, imagine having to listen to the crap most self inflated and overrated Dj's and VJ's sling at the general public !

  • What a super performer!!! Brilliant voice. . So sad about his family. Thanks Roy for all the beautiful music you left your fans.

  • He has been called the (Enrico) Caruso of rock; he was that good.

  • awesome singer

  • super...i like very much the dance and the song...can you tell me the title of the song???please..thank`s..:)

  • I was 3 when he sang this... Just F'in Amazing..... He has the voice of an angel.

  • what kind of people could dislike that!??? what kinda bollocks is that!!

  • Heart rending.

  • The amazing thing about Roy's songs are that they are so different in their format to most other songs which have verses and chorus. Very innovative Artist, Writer and Musician.

  • He was the best!

  • wúúúúúúúúúúúú

  • elvis said he wished he could sing as good as roy ! thats a true fact !

  • I was looking for the original version because I thought he wouldn't sound so good, being older. I gave this one a shot and he was as good as ever. It's so sad that it is over---

  • Oooh my gooshh, what a voice. And how you can hear very clearly it is not playback, his voice is sooo pure and clear, nobody could do better and will never sing better than mister Roy Orbison. I miss you Roy my friend.

  • I wish i could have seen Roy live in concert. if only.

  • @TheLatch44 I did once.....and I will never hear a better voice than I did that night.

  • I wish i could have see Roy live in concert. if only.

  • Such a pure and simple way to present a song, yet it packs so much power. Great post.

  • very neat video. I wish all the utube videos were like this one.

congratulations to the one who recorded it and posted here.

  • Wacky drumbeat. Had the drummer heard this before?

  • Think about this for a minute. . .Roy was only in his late 30s when this was done. . .what would it be like if Roy had not died at 52 in Dec of 89?

  • How did he chain smoke his whole life and have a voice like that? defies physics.

  • The first time I heard this song,

it was summertime on a small radio.

I felt as if someone lifted me off the earth

and let me fall to the ground.

    Amazing then, amazing now.

    Cheers Roy.

  • Omg, this footage is the missing link between Roy Orbison and Antony Hegarty! It's a perfect match! The look, the high pitch!

  • Everybody is wearing glasses like him these days...shame.

  • I dedicate this to the Boston Bruins! Fourth team in American sports history to blow a 3-0 series lead... at least we had the Red Sox!

  • I LOVE the tongue... That's just hilarious! *Beautiful song... Even though he looks like Larry Bud Melman dressed as an Elvis impersonator. I hope they fired the wardrobe guy on that day? Poor Roy...

  • An American treasure. Thanks for the music Roy.

  • "la beauté des laids, des laids, se voit sans délai"

    En voilà une jolie illustration

  • Thank you for posting this. Some songs and some performances just electrify you and Roy singing It's Over does that. You can close your eyes and be back in 1964.

  • This is probably the best concert footage of this song on Youtube. This and the one in Holland. Amazing!!

  • very good, there was a big orb impersinater in our local pub in pateley bridge and I'm sure he said one of the orbs original backing singers was singing with him, was good anyway. There is something mesmerising about the orbs music.
