New comment- deserving and drunken. Fucking Awesome Song- Sum it up to human nature. Want it all. While people choke on dirty rice and dirty water. Die in poverty while you dance with strippers in castles. The New American Dream.
Doesn't this sound like a younger Jim Morrison? That said best band of the 21st century. With most of the bands now of days, it is nice to have something that actually sounds like music. Not a bunch of sex on dance floor, you can actually relate to what the meaning is behind the music.
Just found out about the reunion...I've been hoping and praying for this day to come for years now!!!! Spread the word people...The Tea Party is BACK!!!!
I would of love to see him do this song live. he puts his very soul into this song when he sings and plays it. this song alone is what makes teaparty so great.
@bjchiniki THEY ARE NO LIE GO ON FACEBOOK AND JOIN The Tea Party (official) IM SO AMPED THE FIRST SHOW IS AT THE CISCO BLUES FEST IN OTTAWA JUNE 14 AT 9:30........
Rumour seems true Wikipedia says that they will reform briefly to play Sarnia Bayfest and Canadian tour. Sarnia Bayfest listed the Tea Party on their website as participants. PASS IT ON!
My intrepretation of the song is basically a message to those living in material worlds (all of us) "wanting it all" and no matter what you will do, "you will fade away" chasing things like money and cars and what not is all very well and good, but in the end it's all for nothing..
For all those that say this is mimed. I watched this live when it came out. This is what it sounded like live. It is not the version on the cd. The live footage was altered when they decided to use it as a music video which is probably why it isn't synching. I assure you though I watched this live in the 90s and the recording is definitely what I saw.
@ditapantouf Don't get me wrong. I LOVE this song.......I just prefer the album version as its the version I heard first. I cant find it anywhere on youtube though :(
@thebeatschool I do understand. ( I wasn't trying to argue that one should not prefer this version though) I would argue (gently though haha) that the beauty of the Tea Party is how there songs are truly 'livable' i.e. what you hear on the album just means 'the best is yet to come if you like this song'. Every time I see them live I am always amazed at how they transform their already beautiful songs. Speaking of which....have you heard of their 2011 reunion ????!!!
Mann. I bought the Tangents CD today and it included this song...
It doesn't sound the same. I love this song, and this version is fantastic (not to say the one on Tangents is bad, it's just slightly different.) this version feels more powerful. Gives me goosebumps, aha.
It was a shame that they broke up, but check out Jeff's new band 777. Just seen them live in Saskatoon last weekend and they were incrredible. Their new album is called ~ Jeff Martin 777 ~ the ground cries out
I listen to Jeff Martins pretty regularly on London,Ontario area radio stations. In fact he did Pyschopomp acoustically the other day on 95.9 The Rock. Huh? Of course it was fucking awesome.
I would like to know how the US fans stumbled upon them. For me, my ex wife worked for a music consultant here in LA . Occasionally I would go in and browse CDs that record labels sent them. There were 1000's. Flipping through them, I found a CD with interesting cover art. It was Tea Party's Transmission album. I didn't think the name was all that great but I put it in the CD player anyway. Temptation came on and I was amazed by the unique sound. I have been hooked since.
@myceejay I quite literally stumbled upon them. I was flipping through the TV channels one afternoon and saw videos being shown on a station not normally known for broadcasting them. Turns out they were broadcasting an episode of MuchMusic. This video came on about 2 minutes after I came across the program. When the video ended I stared at my screen unable to process the awesomeness I had just witnessed.
@MNWreckingCrew Nice. You're lucky enough to see them on TV being so close to the border (I am assuming the "MN" in your screen name stands for Minnesota). We don't get MuchMusic or anything from Canada here Los Angeles. Mexico yes...Canada no. The border states probably had a bit more exposure to them than us in the lower parts of the country. Jeff Martin has a voice that I could die listening too. Gave me goosebumps when i seen them live in 2002, and still to this day am i too hear someone who gives me the same feeling of utter amazment and bewilderment as he did. I HEART JEFF MARTIN!!
About... 10 years ago, I was again awake upone Night, and can not sleep.
I turned on the TV. And on one of those stations that I normally never watch^^ was a report over the boys. It was about exactly this album, the tour they have made...by various countries and the Middle East definite influence the album!
Truly this is an underrated classic, and it's a pity that so few people even know of this band at all. On the other hand, one could say that this is a hidden gem; a kind of reward/musical enlightenment for those willing to wade past the atrocious muck that is forced upon us today by big name record companies looking for a quick $. I know I'm melodramatic, but not much I've heard in recent years makes me FEEL the way these older tunes do, which is precisely what music is supposed to do :)
``I`ll give you somethin more, and you`ll fade away``
That almost sounds like the tea party`s story, they gave us something a lot more than your average band did in the 90`s/early 2000`s with their awesome music, and they faded away...... into the back of our minds.
I've loved this band for more than half my life. I think I was only 14 when their album Splendor Solis came out and A Certain Slant of Light hit the charts in my country. I'm 31 now and still love them. The only band that has ever stuck with me so long, through growing up and changing tastes I am still moved by and in love with their music.
No need to search for a specific song. Just search for "The Tea Party" (ignore the **** political movement thingy) and all the songs you find are epic in their own way.
Psychopomp was the song that grabbed me when i first brought the Trasmission cd, the lyrics on most of the songs blew me away so i rushed out and got myself a copy of Splendor Solice and Edges of Twilight and i've never looked back.
i listen to alot of rap and metal and such, mainly because that type of music gets me going. that said, i can still recognize talent, and when i want to listen to music that i can truly say is art, i listen to the tea party
Any song ever done by these guys is a work of art. Song after song you're left with aw and amazement. You can't feel this way about anything that is coming out nowadays. Too bad these guys are not together anymore.
The tea party rocks.... my teacher dated the lead singer for a period of a year and a half... but dumped him 3 years b4 he recorded his first album... to this day shes convinced shes the reason he went into music...
wow, this is a truly amazing song melodically and lyrically. I thought temptation was good but this really gets my attention.. a very talented singer and am grateful to the Canadian who suggested it to me, obviously very good taste such a shame they split would like to hear more from them.
I've always loved The Tea Party... temptation, Heaven's coming down... Being a Canadian, we listened to them on the radio all the time. Then, lo and behold, later in life I become a fan of a great band called Nevermore, and when I look at their new album "The Obsidian Conspiracy" they are covering The Tea Party's song Temptation as a bonus track. People... I have ALWAYS compared the two vocalists, who both have perfect pitch and similar tonal qualities. I am PUMPED.
You guys are being so dramatic, there is still good music out there, there always will be, you just have to actually you know, look for it. On the song though, just got into this band from Nevermore's cover of Temptation, fantastic stuff, I really enjoy this album.
I like it... I'd say more, but it doesn't matter what I post, positive or negative, it always starts a comment box fight and I don't have the patience for that shit anymore...
I remember the days when MuchMusic was still relevant. Does anyone think for a moment that MM would now pay attention if bands like the Tea Party were trying to break out. Rather we get Stereos and Hedley pushed down our throats - dime a dozen hacks who don't even have a fraction of the talent of the Tea Party, or Hip or I Mother Earth. That's what happens when you become the dancing monkey of CTV.
Great version of this one. I remember wearing that Transmission CD out back in '98. Finally got to see them live in Vancouver for the Triptych tour. Memories.
I've seen/heard many versions of this song. The one they played at Musique Plus during a Tea Party special is unmatched... too bad I can't find it here on YouTube (I have it on an old VHS tape though)...
amazing how a song can instantly take you back to a place and time ( both Good and Bad )..... top 5 songs of all time ...... hearing it live is unreal.
Here is a band that drips with talent, poets and musicians, creative brilliance that stands apart from the mainstream music scene. Tragic then, they couldn't put aside personal differences, disbanded and drifted away.
Leaving us adrift on a sea of musical mediocrity with the vomitious drivel of the vain and talentless like Britney Spears and stomach turning, eye watering shots of her genitals..
We desperately need the philosophers and poets of Rock, where are you now Jim, Janis, Jimi ???
@mysweeteventhorizon couldnt have said it better myself, this band is undoubtably one of the most talented bands ever, usually i only like one song inparticular from a band, but with this one i love them all! jeff has the smoothest, most gentle and hypnotic voice i have ever heard. and britney spears is really gross too, lol.
@mysweeteventhorizon well said, especially the reference to morrison, joplin, and hendrix. I exult the same appreciation. I envy the talent. Its awesome to find people that can make a serious comment; heartfelt. We listen , and the Party plays....to our liking. In my humble opinion.
@mysweeteventhorizon LOVE this song. LOVE this band. Pity he tried to impersonate Morrison in first releases. I cringed! They could have been so much bigger. LOVE THEM!
yep, this band waas awesome in the 90s, no question. then they sucked. it's like there's this rule that music had to start sucking after the early 2000s.
Still, their old stuff is unbelievable. Edges of Twilight and Transmission are two of the best albums I've ever heard, they're the only band with two albums on my top 10.
wish they would come back to the maratimes again, saw them 10 plus years ago at ST.Francis university in antogonish, nova scotia, five feet from the stage, alcohol drums, and jeff letting it loose, great experience, love to see them again
GOTTA LOVE THIS version... mmmm . I HAVE to say this IS a Masterpiece!

Memories.

Ah.. I could fall asleep to this song, it's like a lullaby and at the same time it's pretty haunting. Awesome creation.

I've seen/heard many versions of this song. The one they played at Musique Plus during a Tea Party special is unmatched... too bad I can't find it here on YouTube (I have it on an old VHS tape though)...

I'm left breathless with goosebumps.
I always either have to replay this song one more time or sit in silence after it's done.

@gaelic13beauty Me too.... Me too... This song is just one of those rare beauties that allow us to really reflect on our thoughts...
Long after the song is finished, I can still feel the depth and the meaning of this song running through my veins.

I find it odd that so many don't like his vocals, I think they are great! He's a good singer, and has a very distinctive voice.

They died like, a long time ago. Where've you been?

@mysweeteventhorizon couldnt have said it better myself, this band is undoubtably one of the most talented bands ever, usually i only like one song inparticular from a band, but with this one i love them all! jeff has the smoothest, most gentle and hypnotic voice i have ever heard. and britney spears is really gross too, lol.
Edwardlover222 1 year ago
@mysweeteventhorizon well said, especially the reference to morrison, joplin, and hendrix. I exult the same appreciation. I envy the talent. Its awesome to find people that can make a serious comment; heartfelt. We listen , and the Party plays....to our liking. In my humble opinion.

unbelievable song from a band that was great in the 90's. Why arent there any bands like this around anymore, astonished they never made it bigger.

Brilliant, I don't believe either musician would perform anything un-proffessional at anyone or any other's expense!
Thankyou

yep, this band waas awesome in the 90s, no question. then they sucked. it's like there's this rule that music had to start sucking after the early 2000s.
Still, their old stuff is unbelievable. Edges of Twilight and Transmission are two of the best albums I've ever heard, they're the only band with two albums on my top 10.
