You're also forgetting the Waltzer that burnt down on the Dreamland site a few years ago. Caused by an "electrical fault". I remember seeing the smoke that time and thinking "there goes the Scenic Railway surprise suprise". Even the police thought it was the railway straight after it started (I overheard one of them saying it on their radio!)
Since 1st April 2008, the government changed the rules on business rates. The owners of empty buildings now have to pay full rates after 3 months. But if a building is unfit for use (perhaps having burnt to the ground) then it is exempt. Of course, I am not suggesting that is what happened here!
Another nail in the coffin for Margate. The Council pretend they are interested now, but it's probably too little too late. People can fly to Marbella for £20, so how does the council respond? By buying some poncy paintings nobody wants! Sack the Chief Executive, vote out all the councillors and then restore Margate to its former glory, which includes rebuilding the pier!
i am devastated!i was so happy to hear that the scenic was to be saved and other vintage rides to make up a heritage park at margate!-i was waiting in exitement for the park to open! margate doesnt deserve to play host to these classic gems i think a better place should be found to give these rides back to the public!-i hope that the scenic is fully restored as it would b a travesty to bring in the bulldozers!!this resort has lost out on a gem to be! i doubt it will ever happen now!-
if the council had any sense they'd have ploughed money into restoring dreamland instead of wasting millions on pictures of the turner centre. this was bound to happen because tourism is dead, and margate needs to house immigrants and families. dolby square is full up after all.
