I am not sure why but that deep six hydrometer recommends 1.020-1.023 salinity. In reality, for livestock you will probably want 1.023-1.025 This really doesn't matter just for curing, which is what you are doing.

if you have nothing but tap water.the frist time setting up a salt water tank it's ok but make sure it's filtered.after that only use R.O. water.
