I saw this on Night Flight too-not on USA but network TV late at night-think it was CBS-I had to sneak past my parents room to see it,(I was Young) & it was on late too, like 2 or 3 am. Neat that you can find this stuff on Youtube. I remembered that it was Jean Luc Ponty as well as those locks draining in the video and had a weird title.
One of the many works inspired by the founding "Koyaanisqatsi", but among the very first ones, it seems. Today, it is a cinematographical genre "per se".
man i remember being an 8 year old and hearing this for the first time and being so fascinated but i didn't know why, it sounded like nothing else on the radio / tv - i loved the harmony and the bass line mainly, great changes! Then i learnt the bass line on my little sisters 'play school' toy phone ha... memories!
I got hooked on JLP in 1984 a electronics store was playing one of his songs on one of thier stereo systems. The rest is history! I love JLP! Got many albums on vinyl and on cd.
Used to love staying up late on friday watching vids on "Night Flight" and also when they added saturday.Saw some clips of the opening theme of the show on YouTube.
Growing up in the 80's I remember watching USA Network's "Night Flight", and this was a fixture on the show. Not to mention, it was shot in my hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Isn't Chicago an awesome city? Yeah there are a few other cities featured, but Chicago is the main focus.
@hsnterprize You're absolutely right....... I have that night flight episode on VHS... It also featured Al Di Meola, Stanley Clark, Jamaladeen Tacuma, Weather Report, and others. I was only 6 or 7 when it aired and I guess thats the difference with the younger kids today. We were very well versed in different genres of music and young ages. Night Flight, Skinamax, and Joe Bob Briggs were a fixture of my Friday nights growing up! I'm originally from Calumet! =)
I know I have the video at home in Oz, but now Im in Japan and dont have access to it. I wish I could find a nice crisp version of it here on YouTube, this one took a long time and was jerky unfortunately.
This video's parts with moving fast on a rail line remind me of "Something About You" by Level 42. Something about such accelerated transporters.
