@Soupthemighty People that want influence give money. To Obama or any other politician, money is money. He can take it and still not do what they want. But money does cut both ways. You are suggesting Obama is a corporatist because he took money from corporations. I doubt seriously that plays well with most Obama supporters. Still, he got the money AND he got elected, so it worked out for him.

@kazooga1234 You could at least vote to prevent crazy republicans getting into office then. (btw, you don't call healthcare, wall st reform, student loan reform, Iraq and clean energy investments `change'?)
@Wingtipshoes he didnt change healthcare the premuims are still going up and like i said he did give us pocket change and he didnt get student loan reform that got knocked out and as for iraq we are still there yes he is slowly getting them out but we arent out yet and we still have afganstan and thats a pointless war and he didnt do clean energy either he backed out scared caz the republicans where yelling at him so i dont call it change i call it pocket change
@kazooga1234 Clean energy investments were passed as part of the stimulus (I agree with you on cap and trade not happening yet). Student loan reforms were passed with the healthcare bill.
What would you rather he did on healthcare? What he got was far from perfect, but it is by far the biggest improvement in decades, and just about the best thing he could get from this senate.
@Wingtipshoes the republicans didnt allow the student loan thing i forget what the excuse was but it was taken out the republicans rejocied over taken money from people who where already horribly off and i can prove that the student loan reform went byebye like pretty much everything obama claimed to have pass and yes right now i would rather he didnt do health "reform" at all and heres y i live in mass and what obama passed isnt much different then that bill there are so many people who r sayin
@Wingtipshoes g that they dont live in mass so they dont have to pay a fine what will happen is there will be even more people going broke trying to pay a fine because they feel like they have to one guy is already sueing the state of mass and will be 100 times worse when they cant just say they dont live in mass and what others have done is bought health insurance when they needed it but dropped it after they didnt because paying the fine is cheaper and he didnt give us anything that will
@Wingtipshoes make the premuims go down and the stuff that he did supposively get wont last the insurance companys will prob figureout some way to drop them like make them pay 1 million dollars to keep the health insurance because there is nothing stopping them from doing that and you cant say that its an improvement when nothing was improved im sorry but i see obama for what he is a major sellout and i see the bills for what they where weakass
@kazooga1234 I might well agree with you on policy grounds - but you tell me where to get 60 senate votes for it (since the gop refuses to let anything major pass with a majority). And if you think the gop is going to pass anything to improve healthcare, then you're kidding yourself.
(Btw, student loan reform *was* passed with the healthcare bill - my guess is it wasn't all the reform you or I would want)
well there where enough democrats at one point if they all voted and that is even without lieberman that they could have passed anything they wanted to and if obama was stonger he would have been able to do more and like liberman said that obama never once told them to try for the public option and i no liberman wasnt lieing about that so dont give me shit about there not being enough votes bush even got the democrats to pass stupid shit obama could have gotten whatever change he wanted to
@kazooga1234 At most they had 58D + Sanders + Lieberman, so they needed Lieberman's vote. Yes, Bush did pass legislation, but you've got to acknowledge that the GOP has been far more obstructionist than the Dems were. Anyway, 58 Democrats turned out not to mean 58 votes for a public option. Consider Lincoln and Nelson as two examples.
Btw, check out the section `Student Loan Reform' under the healthcare bill's wikipedia page (Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010). It passed
no they didnt not for reconcilation and also they could have gotten liebermans vote if they really wanted it its not that hard to pay that fucker off and the public option was never pushed because obama is a fucking sell out and the republicans are always going to obstruct everything there where even some republicans for the public option and those republicans could have taken liebermans place but to know that you would really have to pay attention to who thought the PO wasnt strong enough
@kazooga1234 Which republicans supported the public option? I mean, there was Cao in LA, but I can't remember any others. Particularly in the Senate (the Senators from Maine were against it, and they were the most likely). Enlighten me.
there was one that told somebody who had an obama sign with a hitler mustash that it would have been like explaining the public option to a table cloth i forget his name but that was one of the funnier things that i heard out of a republican and there where a few others and if pushed for it i know others would have signed on and i also heard about a republican from texas who helped somebody out because they lost their health insurance caz they had to show up to congress for something
@kazooga1234 I think you're thinking of Barney Frank, who asked a constituent on what planet she spent most of her time, and (I think) suggested that conversing with a table would be more meaningful. He's a Massachusetts Democrat. Don't know about this mysterious republican from Texas though.
no i know barney franks name i am thinking of another one i dont no his name i only saw him that one time caz of that vid but there where some republicans that also would have voted for it if one republican did it was the same with the jobs bill one republican signed it so they got about 3 more other republicans to sign on to it so if the public option was really pushed they would have had more then enough votes to pass it i can try finding the info on that republican all of this is from tyt

It's one thing if you don't like it, think it was too much or not enough, but it's undeniable fact. Part of the law regarding Pell grants were taken out, I acknowledge, but its remains that Obama signed student loan reform into law.
@Wingtipshoes and the student loan reform wasnt passed and that was becuase it had nothing to do with healthcare or something and the republicans won with that not being passed and i can prove it if you want me to and your right it was supposed to be but failed and got taken out
@GrandFunker no it really isnt not by 1 person i can prove that it wasnt the best in the 70s either its not the best it never was right now its second to last place for best healthcare so dont give me those shitting lies when i can prove other wise

@GrandFunker Yes, in fact I've read the manifesto and discussed it with political science professors. Communism as an ideology is the furthest thing from any political action Obama has made.
@Soupthemighty Bullshit...what do you think? The bigger the lie, the better the chance someone will buy it? Why not? It worked for Hitler, didn't it? His universal healthcare program was a success too...but what were they trying to do? Get a clue...please!
@GrandFunker Before you speak again, I would like to know: have you read the communist manifesto and/or had a political discussion with a professional on the subject? I myself am a political science major in college so I believe I am the leading authority between the two of us.
Btw, Hitler was a far-right politician. He hated communism even more than the tea parties do.
@Goohuman I am a student at Rutgers University in New Jersey. My professors all know the difference between socialism and have had extensive discussions with students detailing how even a strictly capitalist country like the US can learn from socialist policies. Also part of the discussion was about how Obama is a corporatist above all else and any insinuations that he is a socialist are completely facetious.
@Soupthemighty Okay. So do you agree with them? Do you believe that Obama is a corporatist and to what degree? Do you agree that he is not socialist? All I know is that you can judge a man's motivations by his actions. I see him working with specific corporations very strongly, but others he alienates and undermines. I'm not so sure his interests are to support businesses, but specific businesses.
@Goohuman I believe my professors to an extent. After evaluating the Obama healthcare plan and the methods he used to get it pushed through congress, I believe I have a fair measure of the man's inner workings. For example, he did not include in his plan the un-corporatist public option which democrats have supported in the past. Instead, he set up an exchange system which would make it easier for people to buy from the corporations. You could simply look at his campaign contributors and know.
@Soupthemighty Did your professors say that he left that out?
I remember him specifically campaigning with the unions that it was his intention for our national healthcare program to be a single payer system. In fact, I recall it being a major concession that he would remove that in order to get it through congress. I wouldn't use that as an example of Obama's behaviour, but of his rivals in congress.
Regardless, healthcare will be single payer soon enough. No ensurance co will survive.
@Goohuman I was also under the impression that he would introduce a single payer system and then concede to a public option. However, Obama is not the first president to break campaign promises. The only people who predicted this were a few economists who insisted demand for a public option would transform it into a single payer. I don't think it says a lot about congress because Obama could have gotten any sort of plan. Insurance companies don't matter compared to the American people.
The terms "single-payer' and "public option" are nearly interchangible. Regardless, it will be the taxation directly at the insurance industry that will cause us all to go to a single payer system. That has not changed.
Campaign words are meaningless. Congress still has power. Obama shows by his actions he leans far socialist. I find it odd your professors deem him business friendly .. unless they are even further to the left than Obama ... hmmm.
@Goohuman I'm afraid both plans are quite different. Only a single payer system would remove the profit from the healthcare industry and benefit the people most directly. However, I am unsure as to how taxation would lead to a single payer system without some sort of government plan from which one may purchase. Congress does indeed have power, but the President may lobby congress and it is a powerful lobby. My professors have been all over the map, but I consider myself further left than Obama.
@Soupthemighty WTF? You claim to have had a discussion with a political science professors, so I should just bow to you? You're a douche bag, who has no clue. You can believe what you like. If you've read history, you'd know Hitler was a socialist. He was an avid studier of it. He nationalizes everything he could get his dirty little hands on. I say again...are you lying, or just stupid? I have my own personal library, full of historical and religious texts. Including the communist manifesto.
@GrandFunker Of course Hitler was a Socialist. Nazi stood for national Socialist German Workers party. However, even the right wing in 1930s Germany stood for the socialists. The Nazis are characterized as right wing by their extreme patriotism, xenophobia, and militancy. If you really do have such an extensive collection of political texts then perhaps you should read some before attempting to challenge an expert on obvious political points. Save what's left of your e-penis and fuck off.
@Soupthemighty you're a douche bag...but at least you attempted some actual research, to avoid continuing to look stupid...try harder, you've failed. You want to pretend you know something, when it's obvious you're clueless. You want to drown the argument in left-wing, right-wing bullshit. no matter what you wish to call it...communism nazism, socialism...it's evil, and Barry looks up to this filth. If you had any idea what you were talking about, you'd see the parallels.
@GrandFunker I'm afraid you've caught me. By not reviewing the facts and speaking solely from your paranoid little mind, you have exposed me for someone who listens to the evidence before coming to a conclusion. Well done. Obama, too, enjoys listening to facts. And it is because of this that I, sir, concede to your higher ignorance on the matter.
@Soupthemighty Typical liberal bullshit. You ignore facts, and pretend you are better...know more. People like you are why the whole world is going bankrupt...look at Europe moron...we're going down the same path.
@GrandFunker I would love to go down the same path as Europe. Except for Greece, they elected too many wasteful spending right wingers. News Flash: most of the European Union is in better shape than America, what with our crippling corruption, love of the wealthiest 1% of the population, and our foreclosure crisis.
I believe I have presented facts and evidence in a better manner than you. If you think you can do better; give one example of an action that makes you think Obama is communist.
@Soupthemighty I'm so tired of wasting my time on you. You are a brainwashed imbecile! Everything obama has done and nearly all the advisors he has...COMMUNIST. I can't believe there are people that are this stupid. Except Greece? Why? They're the only ones having riots? That will change...the other European countries are also going broke. Overspending right-wingers? Right-wingers are AGAINST spending. What you are claiming to be facts, are obviously not facts. Who's the liar? You? your teacher?
@GrandFunker I'm afraid no conclusions will be drawn without open discussion. Please come back and state for me one political action Obama has taken that has caused you to believe he is a communist. Or if it was merely brainwashing by fox news, you may state that also.
As for my defense of My statement about overspending right wingers: would it surprise you to learn that some of the biggest spenders in U.S. history have been recent republicans? Reagan spent fortunes more than Carter.

@Goohuman Ignore those with a different opinion...esp ones that are right.

@GrandFunker It is not your opinion I object to. It is your name-calling. If you can't have civil discourse, you cannot go forward, only backward.

GrandFunker 1 year ago
@GrandFunker I would love to go down the same path as Europe. Except for Greece, they elected too many wasteful spending right wingers. News Flash: most of the European Union is in better shape than America, what with our crippling corruption, love of the wealthiest 1% of the population, and our foreclosure crisis.
I believe I have presented facts and evidence in a better manner than you. If you think you can do better; give one example of an action that makes you think Obama is communist.
Soupthemighty 1 year ago
@Soupthemighty I'm so tired of wasting my time on you. You are a brainwashed imbecile! Everything obama has done and nearly all the advisors he has...COMMUNIST. I can't believe there are people that are this stupid. Except Greece? Why? They're the only ones having riots? That will change...the other European countries are also going broke. Overspending right-wingers? Right-wingers are AGAINST spending. What you are claiming to be facts, are obviously not facts. Who's the liar? You? your teacher?
GrandFunker 1 year ago
@GrandFunker I'm afraid no conclusions will be drawn without open discussion. Please come back and state for me one political action Obama has taken that has caused you to believe he is a communist. Or if it was merely brainwashing by fox news, you may state that also.
As for my defense of My statement about overspending right wingers: would it surprise you to learn that some of the biggest spenders in U.S. history have been recent republicans? Reagan spent fortunes more than Carter.
