@BattlefieldFTW1000 Yet the writing all appears to be Chinese. Someone suggested Singapore, but is it possible that Hong Kong has changed SO MUCH since 1963 that many residents simply don't recognize it?
Wow, what a freaking awesome video! Fascinating to see the sanpans. It does look very performative, but in the best way. I love the bit where the policewomen cruise out & they're all hardcore, & the bit at the end, where the girls are defiant in their kick-ass cheongsams. That girl in pink is stupendous.
the video was shot back in the 1960's, nowsdays, sanpans are hardly exist in Hong Kong anymore, after the brits left in 1997, Hong Kong people are a lot richer, they are living in yachts.
@youbeatyourmeat u must be kidding my friend. the people in hk have never got richer just because of the departure of brits in 1997. those who live in the yachts are the riches, but not many of them. most of those boat people have been settled to building before 1997.
@andylam73 trust me, my friend. Hong Kong is better off without the brits, I was there. Nothing compare to the support from your own motherland. Love your own country, as nobody else in the world give a shit about you like your motherland. Many were living in huts and cottages before 1997, worse conditions you can imagine.
“I think that the police are doing an outstanding job. The people must be broken in head and spirit so that population-sustainability can become our way of life,” J pontificated. Ralph had no way of knowing that Jeannette was one of the worst kinds of homosexuals: a lesbian! He had his doubts about her perversities as she had said that abortions were a fun way to break up the monotony and that, as a child, she drew abortion clinics in her spare time.
The street scenes aren't from Hong Kong, although the police women definetly are. They are more probably from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. The architecture looks too tropical for Hong Kong.
@ernestlmt Although I'll be the first to admit that not EVERYTHING in this movie can be true, I would think it strange that they'd pass off one city as another. Are you sure it's not just a part that you aren't familiar with, during a very different time?
@OrinBoborin Oh no I am definetly sure about what I am talking about. I own several albums of old Hong Kong photographs and maps. Most Hong Kong houses did not have sloping rooftops and instead they had flat ones where people hang their clothes to dry (because the city is significantly less tropical than Singapore and the monsoon season is much shorter).
@OrinBoborin The bridge shown in the film was so elaborate in design it shocked me at first. Then I realised that Hong Kong had no place to build such a bridge because the city had no rivers. I've got a collection of old maps and they confirmed my belief.
@OrinBoborin Ernestlmt speaks the truth. "La Donna Nel Mundo", while absolutely fucking hilarious and a particularly nice glimpse into the "mondo" craze that caught on like wildfire in Italian cinemas of the 60s and 70s, is not the most accurate anthropological or geographical document committed to celluloid.
Those streets look nothing like Hong Kong. This is again just another old Western propaganda to reinforce their superiority complex by making the rest of the world look like a shit hole.
1st of all, the street scenes weren't even filmed in Hong Kong, those scenes were definitely from the early 50s (even possible late 40s) unless those people in the scenes were wearing fashion that was 10 - 15 years behind.
The policewomen, and the prostitutes who got locked up in the end looked like they're from the very early 60s judging by their hairstyles & the style of their cheongsams.
btw, I was responding to someone who said it looked 1970s, there's no way it's that late.
Whoa! Positively vintage. Like ATGOD I also live in HK. When I asked my doctor about testing my kid for lead like they do in the US some years ago, I was told "That [high lead levels] generally only happens to kids who live on boats. There are only six families registered as full-time boat residents."
ok is anyone here actually been to hong kong and is a hong kong person. yes im saying im one and back then there was shitloads of child prostitution but at 1:18, the guy is not a pedo and simply is telling the woman to Fuck off and he walk away. this was in the 1950's up to 1980's @JUST1NEK
must be singapore, because in the film you can see indian dark people passing by by the bridge.

This isn't Hong Kong. I live in HK. It is much too old, so this is either somewhere else, or a documentary. This isn't built up enough.

@VoidDeluxe That was an intelligent, insightful, and appreciative comment. I'm going to have to ask you what you're doing on YouTube.

Oh, thanks! ^^
(Good question... I really don't know. Having said that, one genuine answer which comes to mind is "nothing particularly productive".)
Thanks again for the rarity!

"10 million Chinese"....I don't think so. Even now, HK's population is just over 7 million.
