I hate how people fon't know how to translate movies. I spanish it's called: "Sangre, simplemente sangre" wich means: "Blood, simply blood" or sometimes in the movie the title is some way and in the trailers and commercials it's completely different. Like "Easy A" in spanish, Way #1: "Rumores y mentiras" ( It is called "Rumores" y mentira but without the "s" it doesn't make sense.). way #2: "Se dice de mi". See what I'm talking about?
Ironic how americans sack hero and crouching tiger when the chinese thought it was a bore! I want to enjoy this, bit the director does not hold my attention.
@issamosslim well, it's slow....since it' s a remake of cohen brothers movie "blood simple". just like "no country for old man", "burn after reading" and "the big lebowski". if ur an old timer u'll find it interesting. but if ur looking for gun blazing sword slashing action like many young whipper snappers, this is not the one.
Hollywood remade several of akira kurasawa's films.
The Departed was a remake of a chinese film called infernal affairs.
Bollywood did a remake of pride and prejudice.
The Birdcage staring robin williams was a remake of a french film.
So many movies are remakes, and people don't realise it.
If it's not a remake of a foreign movie or an old movie then it's probably going to be the film adaptation of a novel or comic book. Thats just how the film industry works.
@carlmanu Last man standing, staring Bruce Willis was also a remake of Kurasawa's 'Yojimbo'.
I watched Yojimbo when I was a kid, then I saw Last man standing a few years later. I was so shocked by how similar the 2 movies played out, even down to the same lines in some places.
I heard Hollywood did a remake of The Korean classic: 'My sassy girl'.. thats gonna be bad..
now hollywood churns out remake after remake and 99% of them are complete shite! hollywood was good in the 80s and even 90s but now its 99% turd movies.
Whats the point of remaking a movie from the 1980's? Is it really that difficult to come up with NEW ideas Hollywood??? I means seriously WTF is up with so many dam remakes? It's very weird. It's like all the script writers died or something.
@PancakeRecipes Not hollywood genius. This is Chinese cinema paying homage to a modern film that is already a classic. I'd say it's quite a compliment for American cinema to be remade overseas. Since America constantly remakes foreign films because most people in US are too lazy to read subtitles.
Ya I'm familiar with Chinese cinema. I've been watching John Wu since the 80's. I still think its dumb to do remakes, especially American made foreign remakes. I love foreign films watch them all the time. But remakes are still dumb.
If you're going to remake a great film, you might as well go in a completely different direction with it (i.e. Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant.) I'm looking forward to this one.
@DaRunningMan I know that's what everybody claims, but considering how many of the plot points match up with the original up until the ending, I don't buy it. You have a lieutenant addicted to coke in debt with loan sharks investigating a horrific crime that goes beyond anything the lead would ever do. I think the producers and screenwriter definitely had a remake in mind even if Herzog didn't.
@DaRunningMan If you prefer, you could say it's a "Reimagining" of Bad Lieutenant rather than a remake. Herzog took the basic idea of it and made it something new.

Maybe the story ain't new... and that's because the ORIGINAL one is Kurosawa's!
Well, it may be even older yet! But it's worth watching because it's a Zhang Yimou film!
Talvez a historia nao seja nova.. ainda mais pq a ORIGINAL é do Kurosawa!
Bom, talvez seja mais antiga ainda... mas vale ver pq é do Zhang Yimou
