Wow man, thanks a bunch for that. I feel like that is exactly my issue. I took apart the entire intake system on my '96 protege today just to see if I could unclog it or something and changed out the air filter and all of the stuff because I was having rough idling issues. After that the rough idling became worse and the check engine light came on and the car actually started stalling at every stop sign and light after a few hours of driving. Hopefully I can fix it tomorrow.
@a1boforcen If its a USA car. It has to have one. The socket is trapizoidal shaped and usually located anywhere just below the glove compartment or steering wheel area. Im not sure how many pins there is. I just know the socket where the scanner is hooked to is trapizoid shaped
I had a similar problem with my Mitsubishi Carisma here in SW London, UK. The throttle body was totally full of crap and dirt. I bought a can of clutch and break cleaner for £6 and gave a good clean. Everything is fine now. It still drops in rev's at times but nothing compared to before. Before it used to stall the whole time. Soon I'm going to remove the throttle body completely and give it a proper cleaning. My mpg has improved and I seem to have a lot more power too! Happy days :)
to fix misfire replace spark plugs it work for me 2 days ago had a misfire on cylinder 4 after replace spark plugs and clear code the car runs good and not check engine light anymore
hey i am getting OBDII P0302 code and i am idling rough. I thought it was the transmission but my book says it is "cylinder 2 misfire detected." What should I do to resolve this on my own with the least amount of work and cheaply?
@hudsonjamesc Hey! That's the exact thing I had. Cylinder 2 misfire! I know the rough idle will cause that code. I just cleaned the MAF and also the throttle plate on areas where plate closes. I never had this code again. WELL it worked for me anyway.

I have 98 mazda protege and engine perfect work but rpmeter's needle jumpy sometimes, my charger dinamo was malfunctioned and I fix that using external part, maybe this operation make it? I dont know how is the fix this situation? (sorry for bad english)
Also, I have a question. My idle is sticking at 1100 revs, when I let out the clutch at a standstill it drops down to 700 and stays there, but whenever I accelerate back up and then push the clutch in again, it idles at 1100 - doesn't matter how long I wait for it to go down again. Do you have any thoughts about what the problem could be?
@RoniisH Sorry it didn't work for you. Did you clean the throttle body (inside). You can also try cleaning the PCV valve and EGR valve too. That could help too. I just know that when I cleaned the MAF and the throttle body, my rough idle stopped, Sorry it did not do it for you as of now.
@RoniisH Sorry I took a long time to answer. The PCV valve is the part that stick out from the valve cover, yes its near the fuel injectors and the oil cap. On my 96, (97s EGR valve may look different), the EGR valve is located under the intake manifold area, near the battery. It is tricky to get to it, because of the tight space. It was just three bolts, a couple vacuum hoses and a connector. Remove throttle body hoses for easier axcess.
man, if it was all so simple. i've got a 02 Ford Focus that I too have done way to much research and testing this and that and read some more and read and tested and read and pondered.... on and on,,, I feel like life aint so bad, maybe a 5 dollar can of MAS cleaner will cure everything, so I will try.
BTW; Seafoam worked like a charm a couple years ago when I needed to de-sludge a part of my engine that was impossible to get to. i kept the smoke down by spraying the exhaust fume with water
california air resorce board is a bunch of thugs people losing good cars left and right over some bull crap emissions tests.

I have a protoge -97 and it didn't work at all of me. Cleaned it the best I could, but the idle is still jumpy.

@fueledbymusic3 I'm hoping to get a little better gsa milage by doing so though. The PCV valve is the one above the oil cap, right?
The EGR valve, where is that one?
