  • 3:00 = A total "FUCK SHIT UP" moment!

For the sake of all the dickslaps on here, this is TEXTURES! Not Meshuggah or Periphery or Strapping Young Lad or any other band for that reason. Stop comparing them and just listen to this absolutely fucking amazing bollock burstingly good brutalisation to the face!

...then clean up the mess in your underwear afterwards.

  • there guitars sound like pantera have installed them!

  • The way some of these comments devalue this band with stupid 'pre-periphery' 'mesh clone' words just proves some of you really don't deserve the internet access and should pause before writing nonsensical gibberish. And then I have to search for chrome plugin 'block yt comments'. Louis CK was right.

  • People who are calling them Meshuggah are basing that only on the fact that Textures is also playing technical riffs.

Musical-wise (riffs, melody, singing) its not even close..they are unique and are mixing different blends of good bands (I hear some meshuggah, SYL, dream theater for example).

Stop whining about them being a rip off and enjoy their music :)

  • @mitchthabitch what's SYL

  • @jsteele07189 Strapping Young Lad. Fucking awesome.

  • The way this video has been made, it's got 80's written all over it!

  • Comment removed

  • Pre-Periphery.

  • @dhinge Nahhhhhh.

  • anyone think that this is the intro of shortest straw from metallica?? 0 : 18

  • meshuggah -meshuggah -meshuggah

  • nice Devin Townsendish choir

  • Genre: I don't care

Sounds like Meshuggah: I don't care - Textures are there own with 'some' similarities

    Does Textures fucking own: Yes

  • @BushSniffers Amen Bro.

  • STILL one of the most underrated Progressive Metal bands today

  • @VileVengeance Nuclearblast as the new label will hopefully change that

  • @tehpeasant I hope so too man

  • Meshuggah had a baby with Alice in Chains and it was Polars

  • This song's awesome!

  • Anyone else think this song sounds a lot like Meshuggah's old stuff? Like the 90's stuff?

  • @TheRayven760 yep. most people wouldn't know though, contemporary Meshuggah fans listen to Obzen, Nothing, Catch 33, Destroy Erase Improve

  • @TheRayven760 Intro reminds me of Destroy Erase Improve

  • @TheRayven760 Djent. 'Nuff said.

  • @PoleCratt That's pre-djent (if you mean Bands like Periphery or Tessaract)

  • @tehpeasant liez. Textures was djent before djent was djent. lul.

  • @Kw1q51lv3r Also tru lol

  • @TheRayven760 yep

  • @TheRayven760 Same here.

  • I wish it was without the vocals lol and extend the soft jazzy parts , Its such a amazing song either way

  • Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah jazz fusion kick your ass !

  • @BloodSChild yes it kicks ass but what does that have to do with this song? XD~

    Great band. UNDERRATED!!!

  • I don't understand a shit about the lyrics. But that song is so freaking great. I think that the part beginning at 2:15 really show Textures " style " , and what makes them quite different with all these other metal bands outside.

  • Saw the name of the song, and one word came to me: tryharding.

  • @Pseudopathaso i saw your name and one word came to me: tryharding lol

  • @antsandlions Gibberish isn't very hard to fabricate.

  • @Pseudopathaso Yet you always deliver it

  • @StraTooS I'm aware, considering I just admitted to making a gibberish pseudonym.

  • @antsandlions In fact, excerpted from my profile: "...the gibberish pseudonym that is my Youtube name: Pseudopathaso. (It doesn't mean anything; like I said, it's random gibberish, lol.)"

    I'd feel pretty silly.

  • @antsandlions And yes, I'm tryharding now, but with good purpose!

  • If you like this, you should listen to Cynic's traced in air album. The music stays interesting.

  • I love how you're all crackin' on ppl that mention slipknot. HaHa.

I bet I'll get you to make a bet by the end of the day.

  • These guys are more similar to BTBAM/Dream Theater or Scale the Summit, Progressive/Thrash... Not Slipknot lolol I like some Slipknot, but whoever compared both bands is retarded.

  • Hey! Look at me! I'm mature enough to admit that I appreciate the musicianship of both Slipknot AND Textures! Dont be scared. It's normal not to be a Youtube troll

  • man these guys seem like a perfect cross between gojira, and meshuggah (earlier stuff like the none album)

  • man.. slipknot sucks my cock closer to this..

  • how the hell did slipknot get into this conversation? stupid... just stupid. waste of breath. joey jordison is the only one with real talent in that band. the end. back to TEXTURES....

  • The name Textures itself says it all, amazing band.

  • Music is nice, but its funny how all these bands pretend to be "intellectual" all of a sudden. Whats the deal with those names?? "ostensibly impregnable"... come oooon XD, I like prog metal and all that stuff, but the "scientist-intellectual-brainy" image is becoming a cliche.

  • @stonerdemon i agree with you about the song name but.....whats wrong with being (or trying to be) intellectual with music?.....btw its not a fucking cliche....

  • @stonerdemon true xD

  • hey buddy we outnumber u 125 to 1 so get a life abortion survivior

  • Southern djent

  • UMMMM.....WOW!!!

  • What a song and what a band.... Destroy Erase Improve formula brought to a new level of perfection and beauty... These guys have my total support and respect.....

  • @navas015 The two best albums out on this planet, you sir are a champion

  • this sounds like sikth and this is menance.

  • HELLO fathers of "ambient/djent"...fuck it...beautiful technical metal

  • Theres so much Destroy Erase Improve over this, I like!

  • My word that vocal harmony will raise the hair on your neck. Beautiful.

  • There was so much more Meshuggah in your music back then :)

  • these guys were waaaaay ahead of their time

  • intro reminded me of "the beautiful people, the beautiful people"..

  • @ 2:59 is the most bad ass drum beat ever.

  • easily the best band from my home country

  • pantera and cynic

  • "0" Dislikes ... nuff said ;)

  • Really "Meshuggy", but with some interesting influences. Loved it :) Your latest songs are way more original though!

  • This minds me of some strange mating of Meshuggah with Pantera... i kinda like it lol

  • evolution of aggressive but still harmonic metal: pantera -> fear factory -> strapping young lad -> textures

  • Fucking owns.

  • So funny to see this online! I remember my boyfriend showing me this a while back on an old dvd, saying this was one of the first video's he ever worked on :p. He was totally surprised to see this on your official Textures youtube :D.

  • I like how you've developed but this is epic.

  • it's like pantera fucked alice in chains

  • @joecool1890 And meshuggah at the same time :P

  • Sounds like Old Meshuggah!!!!!! This band is good!!!!! Hats off... /,,/

  • im really starting to like these guys

  • gasten, wat zijn jullie toch héérlijk technisch!!

    respect voor jullie!!

  • old vocalist>>>>new vocalist :/

  • U GUYS ARE AWESOME, this song has such a strong chorus i fucking love it.

  • Awesome song, but man this video looks like it's straight out of 1992.

  • @ZosoDelta that isn't necessarily a bad thing imo

  • I always wonder how metal lyricists from countries that don't normally speak english know so many gigantic words.

I don't even know what "ostensibly" means...

  • @kingofvwcosmos dude, i am 15, and i've been obsessed with composing music since i was 13, i'm from chile, we talk spanish... so i normally write lyrics in english, but sometimes i don't know some word, so i use the word in spanish, look out in a dictionary, and find the synonym in english that most rimes... i figure that's how geniuses like texture ends using so many 'strange' words xD

  • @kingofvwcosmos ostensibly is really not that big a word, and it's fairly common in usage. On another note, how the fuck could you possibly know who has grown up speaking English and who hasn't? Shut up and enjoy the music :)

  • @kingofvwcosmos in general, dutch people know their way with english :p lets keep it at that :)

  • ok im sold these guys are good

  • You know I would buy these albums if it wasn't for the constant growling that ruins the great music. Let's here some singing - the occasional growl for affect is fine.

  • Htat song maked me mosh in my bedroom :P

  • Every band considered "djent" takes at least something from Meshuggah, or is heavily influenced, but Textures is one of the most original to do it anyway.

  • @joeytiago Agreed.

  • @joeytiago Agreed, but in this song guitars sound exactly the same like on Chaosphere from Meshugah.

  • Will definitely wait to see you guys one day in Los Angeles. Sybreed came to LA and now it's your turn alongside Tesseract....

  • Fuck. This is awesome!

  • Such an amazing album! So atmospheric.

  • Yep Pieter Verpaalen was the first singer from Textures Album Polars

And the second album an the third was with Eric Kalsbeek

    Now they have mr Dan

  • Meshuggah ofc, them first album came in 1989..

  • Who came first? Meshuggah or Textures? just curious...

  • @VexedSamith Meshuggah, by like fifteen years.

Textures borrows HEAVILY from their djent style. Yet, still is original.

  • this other singer reminds me of the front man from Nuclear Assault

  • Best album. Period.

  • OMFG. first time listening to this band. PURE FUCKING TALENT♥

  • This is really cool

  • *nutted

  • choon!!!!!!!!

  • This reminds me of Sol Niger Within... This is my first time listening to this band and I like what I'm hearing!

  • exivious is fucking awesome also

  • Wow cool, didn't know this one! Still wonder why they didn't shoot a video for Swandive. KILLER.

  • will miss eric sad he had to leave

  • I listened to Slipknot out of sheer curiousity - shallow aggression, their music has shelf life of 6 months and then I forgot all about their uninspiring and boring music.

Textures still blow me away, ever since Polars album.

  • Tentacleed i like some shallow aggressive music (cannibal corpse anyone?) but slipknot isn't even good at that and it's nice to have some other feelings in your songs

  • @Tentacleed slipknot sucks ass

  • @metalhead6777777 oh sure slipknot sux ass because the have 2 of the worlds best drummers and had 1 of the best bassist ever go fist dick hole u fuckin cunt bitch u dont have shit on slipknot

  • @dirtbikehero450 being a drummer myself i can tell you that texture's drummer is far better....thats something a ten year old says dude...btw im no bass player but i could think of hundreds of better bass players than slipknot's....just cause he died doesnt make him good

  • @logrammmudmurd well ur entitled to ur opinion even if its retarded

  • @logrammmudmurd im done with you.... dumbass troll

  • @Tentacleed slipknot sucks, their taste in music blows

  • @Tentacleed

Basically, with Slipknot, it's just if you're a loser and want to look cool - Slipknot's survives only its shock value because those clowns help one stand out like a fucking retard, people get attention (though negative) from showing they listen to Slipknot & wear their merchandise.

On an instrumental level, it's just a bunch of idiots having a wank with their instruments.

  • yeah the whole time i listened i thought yes there is definately a mesuggah influence there and destroy improve erase - nice album name drop

  • I enjoy both bands, but it is obvious that Slpiknot keep it simple for purpose and that every note they play is intense - and thus equal art.

  • @drumfisch they just aren't very good musicians dude... and what is the point of metal but to make the most intense and emotionally provoking music? and music in general? they keep it simple to market it to people who don't want to listen to anything that takes more thinking... pretty much most of nu metal is like that, save korn's older stuff and things like that... just doesn't float my boat to listen to "fuck you fuck you fuck you" chugga chugga chugga same same same when i can listen to this

  • @punkrockdrummer Slipknot's 3rd album had some pretty respectable music on it, not a scatch on bands like Meshuggah, but it was definately a mature record.

  • that solo as thordendal all over it

  • @Chewbacca121314 well, thordendal's solos have holdsworth all over them so it's ok

  • Thordendal made a solo record really amazing (Sol Niger Within), every fan of jazz should have a listen to it. Too bad the CD version doesn't have Missing Time, a great track. I don't understand why, it was the most Holdsworthian moment in his whole carrier. More than "being inspired", he bordered citation.

The incredible thing of meshuggah is the base rhythm for Haake (on bass and snare drums) is mostly 4/4. It's the 23/16 hi-hat or the guitars goin' for 5/4 or 7/4 that feed the magic.

  • Please don't compare great composers like Meshuggah or Textures with 4 chords + flat 4/4 modest musicians like Slipknot.

This is not "aggression, nothing more": there are more changes and ideas in this song than the whole discography by Slipknot.

If one is able to play an instrument, after 4 beats already got it.

  • @hoxvoxbox

What's hilarious about that is that it couldn't be more true. Because literally 99% of Slipknot's songs are all about the same adolescent, mad-at-everything aggression.

  • Yes, quite boring like all equal levels in a bad quality first person shooter.

But I have to admit: I listened more times their second record (Slipknot), because it was easy listening without fall into pussy music. Very good while you wait for hours in an airport. Meshuggah or the harshest Textures could lead you to strangle a steward. Slipknot can only inspire you to yell "fuck off!"

  • @hoxvoxbox Meshuggah KICK ASS BIG TIME!!! All the other bands (like this one) try to be decent emulators, but MESHUGGAH is the undisputable king.

  • @stonerdemon meh, I think this is better than Meshuggah

  • Polars was awesome.

  • I loooooooove this solo

  • i love how this song just effortlessly swings along. this band has the BEST sense of (tasteful) metal groove out there.

  • I'm not sure about BEST. have you heard the band Meshuggah, the song Closed Eye Visuals in particular? Those dudes wrote the book on metal groove, and hugely inspired these guys.

  • Meshuggah are the best metal band I ever heard, but these guys took only some polyrhythms and atonal passages. Melodies are true progressive metal and sometimes prog rock. They also make ambient tracks which are comparable to Eno's output in Ambient 4.

Textures are really a wide open band.

  • word, son. I'd say their biggest melodic influence would have to be Fredrik Thordendal, though only vaguely. His Holdsworthian chord changes would be the primary borrowed sound, but, again, only vaguely. otherwise, they just took the idea of perpendicular riff grooving and ran with it.

  • great musicians, they was ispirated by Dewin, Meshuggah, maybe Slipknot and so on, but they are great musicians, and this is enough!! Enough for ears!

  • not slipknot

  • I have never heard Slipknot as well, don´t know their albums(don´t like it), but I think, there is sometimes similar feeling in Textures songs.

  • Are you drunked or cracked man...,..? omg.....this is the dumbest comment i was ever read

  • You have never heard Slipknot, but claim you don't like their music and claim there is a similar feel in Textures' songs? Aggression, perhaps, but nothing more.

  • slipknot??

    =s----

    sorry but NO..

slipknot? i can't beleive wut you just wrote.

  • You can´t believe.... I feel there sometimes a little bit simillar type of agression,(..I donť thing this song, but in general..)

  • you're dumb

  • and you?

  • really dig the vocal harmonies and the metal riffs it's like a more melodic version of meshuggah

  • Simply the best dutch metal band. In they are in top worldwide they could easy compete with other big metal bands. Just my opinion;)

  • are they using seven string guitars and 5 string basses?

  • Yup, and standard tuning. (BEADGBE)

  • people who say the beatles are amazing obviously haven't heard textures

  • @subhumanmaster Hahaha!

  • @subhumanmaster You don't know what you're talking about, do you?

  • @subhumanmaster that's a stupid comment...

  • @subhumanmaster Anyone who likes apples obviously hasn't tasted bananas, etc etc...

  • @subhumanmaster

I'm not a beatles fan myself but lets get real for a minute here. Textures fucking rocks you're right (and I agree) but the beatles did something that texture never could do, appeal to so many fans that they become a household name.

  • @anonymous0s0egion

But Beatles never played on 7-strings!!

  • @subhumanmaster I know you're joking but just in case you're an idiot :P

  • One of the most underrated metal bands of all time.

    amazing!

  • love the backing vocals+clean guitar

  • Silhouettes is a great album. i dont think the production is worse. but i do think they had alot of other influences whilst making it.

  • does anyone think that the production of silhouettes was a lot worse than the first two?

  • reminds me of contradictions collapse by Meshuggah! Definitely some Fredrick influence here i think!

  • so your thoughts are definate? lol jp

  • Great album, the old singer was awersome too

  • the other vocalist reminds me of the singer from Nuclear Assault

  • You mean Eric Kalsbeek, he's fucking awesome

  • Yep. lol. Oh how I love tipos.

  • The guitar solo sounds quite Fedric Thidendal like. Love it!!

  • stef broks smacks it

  • jezus wat ik zou doen voor een dagje met mijn 7 string jammen met hun :P

  • POLARS is an awesome album! Very kinematics! Great meshuggah-like rythmics and indescribable beautiful Textures atmosphere and soundscapes.

  • Is it as good as Silhouettes?

  • this was their other vocalist right?

  • yup, this song has one their sickest feelings of the old Textures creations

  • Yes it was

  • We were so young there! LOL

  • excelent band man, i m from Chile and here we have excelent progresive bands like "octopus".... this band is excelent.

    greetings.
