  • Rock the Fk on. Brilliant

  • Wow. You can play everything. I'm impressed. I haven't looked through your library but do you have a video of Green Grass and High Tides :-)

  • Great playing

  • HAMER! Hell yeah!

  • SANTA!! awesome cover by the way

  • still a great vid..hey, would you do a full new version with the guys you did TAAB with.

that would be cool.......maybe a few short tull tunes, eh?

  • What great rendition!

I love that guitar, it really moves me. You ought to be happy with yourself for capturing the essence of that piece of music. The general music in the background is like a natural grandstand made just to highlight the lead guitar. Or is it rythym? Either way, it really is magic to listen to. In fact, I can't imagine anybody not liking it. I love it and I have been hearing it for over 40 years. Great stuff and well done!

  • PRS guitar? :P

  • @mike1992p Nope, it's a Hamer Sunburst. I think the color sort of leads people to believe it's a PRS because you aren't the first person to think that it may be a PRS.

  • @SilverHamer ok mate :) nice cover though! Martin Barre would be proud!

  • you are awesome!!!

  • martin barre is a very overlooked player, his playing is so tasteful and the guy has such an earthy guitar tone. One of the best

  • aren't you the guy who plays that awesome sweet child o mine cover?

  • @themusicgamer14 Yes I have a cover of Sweet Child o' Mine :D Thanks

  • Excelent solo, congratulations from Madrid (Spain) I´d like to have a friend like you and plays phantantic songs, bye for now: Ed

  • its a great cover and the audio is not so bad you think

  • the audio is terrible

    nice cover though

  • I am satisfied. You hit more notes than Martin Barre does in some of his live performances. It's one of my favorite guitar rides. And, after all, it is improv, so you go with it as it moves you. Maestro!

  • Astrein... Gefällt mir sehr gut :-)

  • You da man! Keep on rockin'!!! Cool guitar, cool playing! Thumbs up.

  • Nice job! it's always fun to play the music you love

  • I'm liking the shirt. O, and the solo is great too

  • Beatles shirt? Can't really see :/.

  • But of course it's a Beatles shirt. :D My daughter bought it for me when the Beatles display was at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC a few years ago. :D

  • Ah thought it was a Beatles shirt ;)

Bought myself a Beatles measurer in Liverpool :P Only Beatles thing I've got.

But Great work on the solo, great stuff.

Been wanting to post a cover myself of the solo, just don't have any reccording equipment :/ It's a kick ass solo!

A band in my school performed the whole song on stage at out school a few weeks ago :P It was awesome ;) Jethro for life man ^^

  • Duuude nice guitar!!! And awesome playing!!! Check out my cover of this song please n let me me know wat you think? Thanx man keep on rockin! \_/

  • nice video man, i should make a vid response to your vid instead of you doing to mine :)

  • why do you call yourself 'silverhamer' and play a Paul Reed Smith?

    sorry...bad joke.

  • Yea, that was a bad joke...but you wouldn't be the first person to confuse my Hamer Sunburst for a Paul Reed Smith. They have a similar look, but a PRS body has more of a Strat shape whereas the Hamer Sunburst is pretty much the same as a Gibson Les Paul Double-Cut. Of all my Hamers, this is the only one that has been called a PRS and I think it probably has to do with the color. No sweat though. I'll take your bad joke in the spirit in which it was given. :D It's all cool.

  • Kick Ass

  • two things.

    1:awesome cover

    2:nice hamer!!!

  • That's a really awesome guitar. You look very comfortable with it too.

  • you have the best guitar PRS rocks!!!

  • PRS guitars DO rock...however, what I'm playing in this video is a Hamer Sunburst. I am a Hamerhead...I own 7 of them. LOL. A friend of mine has a PRS Single-cut that I enjoy playing when I visit him, but I do not own one...yet. LOL. I would have to say that Hamer and PRS are pretty much on par with each other, but I'm tilted toward the Hamers.

  • Did you know Martin Barre improvised that solo to show off when Jimmy Page came to visit him in the studio? Amazing.

  • nice work nice prs

  • Thank you...that's not a PRS, it's a Hamer Sunburst. ;)

  • Excelent work my man! It's a great solo...one of them solo's you just wanna play over and over again.

  • that is one beautiful guitar

  • very good job dude. excellent improv.

  • great job,

  • cheers dude rock on fukin eh!

  • GREAT GUITAR WORK

  • Are you a session guitarist, or did you (or are currnently) playing in a band? Nice playing and you look comfortable doing it.

  • your corect on that barees gear basically changed every album and i know the source is corect i got it form his website

  • i dont want to sound like a dick

but barees equipment on this entire album was

    1958 les paul junior

    and a 200 watt hiwatt

  • And if your point is that I sound nothing like him because I'm not playing a 1958 Les Paul Jr with a 200W Hiwatt...well, I could probably add 50 more reasons why I don't sound like him...the main reason being that I am not Martin Barre. HAHAHA. If you happen to have a '58 Les Paul Jr and a 200W Hiwatt I could borrow, I will be happy to attempt a remake of this but I make no promises. :D BTW, I don't think Martin has used that rig on anything since that particular album.

  • Can someone tell me what scale Martin Barre used to write this solo? I can see that part of it is the G pentatonic, but then he goes back to F and up to E. WHY? I've been trying to learn this forever... any resources???? HELP!!!!

  • I don't know what to tell you there. All I know is that Martin plays it differently every time he plays it, and for someone like me who plays strictly by ear or by watching others it's a wild ride. I am 1/2 step flat in this one because it was just easier for me to play the main riff starting in C. These days they play this song live a full step lower than the original to facilitate Ian's failing voice. God Bless him, he just keeps going in spite of it. :)

  • I've been playing for 7 years and there's still no way I could write a solo as memorable as that... I just can't find out the "why" behind everything. I know the scales and everything, but I can't figure out why certain notes fit even when they're not in the scale...

  • The reason is that "Aqualung" was written in G minor and at different parts of the song it takes on different scales OF G minor. For example, the opening lick is in the 6 note blues scale. But the 5 chord riffs around it use an Eb, which is part of natural minor, see? And don't forget even the B5 is part of the major scale! What's going on? Well, that's the magic. You get a young genius like martin barre doing nothing but rocking out for 6 months on the road and bam! you get a solo!

  • You just f@#$% awesome!

    What a feeling!!!

    Cheers!!!

    Purplesnake

  • Huh, whaddaya know? You were the first guy on youtube to post this song.

  • i cant imagine that guys like u still exist . Keep playing ur guitar m8

by the way is there any bass player there? cuz i sware i hear a bass.

    i will watch again.

    well done again

  • I was playing along to a backing track that I had made, so yes, there is bass, drums, piano, and you can hear my vocal in the beginning of this clip. This was one of my first videos and I had not figured out how to get the audio track just right at this point. I should re-do this one...someday I will. Thanks for the comments. :D LC

  • could ou please put a copy of ur backing track on the internet somewhere plz

for my music gcse course work i am perforing this song, i need 2 download a free backing track 4 it, but cannot find 1 anywhere :(

  • oh i see...the LIVE version of the solo..

  • Thanks for posting. Your guitar solo cover of Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" was excellent. Keep rockin' !!!!!

  • sounds nice

  • you're playing is almost as cool as your moustache...

    ALMOST.

  • This song has such a great feel to it. Great guitar work.

  • Thanks man! This is one of my very first attempts at making a music video so the audio track really stinks because I was capturing it all with my camera which was sitting on top of my amp...LOL. LOADS of distortion. I should do a remake of this one with some decent audio. Thanks for the kudos. LC

  • What model is that guitar?

  • It is a Hamer XT Sunburst Archtop Flame (SATF)with cherry sunburst finish.

  • nice

  • ok, that is really good. i like the guitar also!!

  • Nice work, dude. Rock on!

Interesting rock trivia: on the album mid-way thru Martin Barre's solo, there's a held note with a wee bit of feedback. Apparently this is when he waved to Jimmy Page, who had just come into the control room (Zeppelin were recording in the next studio at the time.) That's the take made it into the final mix. (From the Aqualung re-issue liner notes)

  • Mister you simply Rock, Ian Anderson would be proud ;)

  • Nice sound. Good chops. Like to see you play more of your own shit. After the first 4 notes you can extrapolate as much as you want. It is a great solo though.

  • awesome job old timer

just kidding...i want to be as good as you

  • is this fake? it is still pretty awsome even if it is!!!!!!

  • LOL, nope it's not fake. The audio quality is about as bad as it gets because this was one of my first-ever music vids. And for whatever reason I had the camera sitting on top of the speaker where all of the sound was coming out...duh...LOL. I've since learned some better techniques for shooting video and mixing audio.

  • you're great, really good work! keep rockin' !

  • I love your version alot too bud. Keep rockin' through life, you're awsome!

  • ur awesome man

  • Awesome job dude. Glad to see your still rockin'! Never stop!

  • great job

  • Great solo, suberb track - hey some us like the bass loud - keep up the good work!

  • No, the reason the audio is so bad is because I recorded this into the camera mic with the camera sitting on top of the amp speaker where all of the audio was coming out. This was one of the very first videos like this I ever shot...I've come a long way from this...HAHA. Yea, the audio stinks on this one. Thanks for watching anyways. LC

  • alright! ROCK ON!!!

  • WOW THAT WA AMAZING!

when should i expect the entire song?

    great work!

  • all your videos are awesome! Your taste in Your taste in music is alot like mine! i also like some of the new stuff! I am going to cover aqaulung next full version, hope your watching because i will be watching your next videos, Great job!!!! Check out my drum covers! Louddrummero has subscribed! ♫♫♪♪

  • Thanks for the kind words. I will be checkin' you out ;) All The Best, LC

  • I want an uncle like you¡¡¡¡¡ cool ;)

  • I'm impressed

  • Nice shirt!

  • Smooth!

  • Good job, mate.

  • SWEET!

  • tull has been my favourite band since i was 10....i'm 15 now so i'm pretty envious of those of you who grew up listening to them

  • I've posted here before but what the heck : YOU ROCK MAN!!

  • nice cover check my versione if u want ;)

btw... Reportedly, Jimmy Page entered the studio, while Martin Barre was recording the guitar solo. It was during the first take, Jimmy waved to Martin from the control room while he was playing, and Martin stopped playing for a short second, and waved with his right hand, while still sustaining the sound with the left hand. The solo on the record is actually this first take. Indeed, there is a short sustain with feedback during the solo.

  • One of my all time favorite guitar solos. Another nice cover. Have to say I am impressed.

  • great song, great cover, great band. you rock. i love the 70s.

  • nice shirt

  • well said itdan 123 im 15 and i also listen to and play classic rock, modern music is just not as good.

  • (Y)

  • dude that was awesome i am jealous lol and nice guitar, also i watched your other videos and they were awesome. peace.

  • that looks like a hammer to me. I got the same one only gold. There nice guitars. mines got p'90s tho.

  • Yep, that's a Hamer Sunburst Flametop...plays like butter and the neck has a really nice phat feel to it. Hamer has won me over, I now have 3 of them. LC

  • I recognized some of the "live" elements in this solo. Sounds like one of Martin's solos from the late 80's. I've tried to play that solo 1000 times and never have sounded as good as you.

  • Classic rock forever! im 16 man, i dont listen to that modern crap!

  • ur 16... figures ur a moron.

this is classic its jethro tull u twit... its from the 60-70-80-90- till today.. its nything but modern u cluts

  • I think if you go back and read ltdan123's comment you'll see that he meant exactly what you said...that he doesn't listen to modern stuff, but he likes the classic stuff, like this tune. I think that's pretty cool for a 16 year-old, and he is no moron for that...:)

  • nice choise of music

  • This is the best version of this solo on Youtube, and probably one of my fave videos on youtube.

I was wondering if you found the tablature somewhere, or whether you (amazingly) worked it all out.

If the tab for this version is on the net somewhere I'd love to see it!

  • No tabs here...I can't even read the bloody things...LOL. I noodled this out by ear and used elements of Martin's various live performances all combined into this rendition. Thank you for the nice comment. LC

  • Great Beatles T-Shirt

  • you are the GUY!! Nice video!!

  • Kick ass!!!

  • Do some Neil, I know you can.

  • yo agreed lol

    anyways great job man

    peace

  • your a true pirate

  • you are a damn good guitarist.

This is even better than your cover of "Eighteen"

  • Nicely done!

  • that solo is hands down the best electric guitar solo ever and you do an great job with it. even though its not perfect, it sounds really cool.

  • I like how you played the solo, along with your own personal flourishes. Cheerio!

  • Amazing dude, it sounded wonderful. Any tips for guitar newbies? LOL, I just tried playing this about 10 mins ago and pretty much just got owned by your video. Props to ya!

  • my favorite solo of like all time...

I just started to try and learn to play this one and it is hard stuff.

but you nailed it. ROCK ON

  • Very nice job! Martin Barre is the greatest guitar player ever, at least in my book. Respect to you for a nice cover.

  • Great!

    Liked it a lot.

The audio isnt great though, but I can tell that in reality the sound is excellent.

    Incidently, what guitar is that?

  • Thank you for the compliment...the audio just isn't great, it sucks really bad. LOL. I had my digital cam sitting on top of my amp so there is tremendous distortion...I should have re-made it...thinking about doing the entire song. This was one of my first vids. The guitar is a Hamer Sunburst. LC

  • great playing there man=)how long have you been playing?

  • Thank you for the kudos. I have been playing guitar since I was 8 years old...and right now that adds up to be about 43 years...jeeesh I'm freakin' old!!! LC

  • With all due respect to Clapton, I'll take Martin Barre over slowhand any day - and you absolutely NAILED his most famous solo. My hat is off to you, if you put out a CD I will buy it!

    Matt

  • WOW! Thank you! From what I know of Martin Barre, I think that HE would probably thank you as well! I have been considering a re-make of this clip because the audio is sooo horrible and I've perfected my video/audio dubbing/mixing substantially since this clip was made...I am considering doing the entire song but it's still in the cerebrial stage at this point. Thanks again for the very nice words! LC

  • what a nice guitar. omfg, nice play 2.

  • you are a god, that is the all time greatest solo

  • Woah...well thank you. I hardly consider myself in the same league as Clapton though...LOL! Thanks for having a look and for the kind words. LC

  • Sounds good man!

  • wow, your amazing.

  • I like it. Great job. :) Oh, and I think I have the same desk as you. lol.

  • Great job :) very good choice as well

  • good job !

  • awesome
