I love that guitar, it really moves me. You ought to be happy with yourself for capturing the essence of that piece of music. The general music in the background is like a natural grandstand made just to highlight the lead guitar. Or is it rythym? Either way, it really is magic to listen to. In fact, I can't imagine anybody not liking it. I love it and I have been hearing it for over 40 years. Great stuff and well done!
@mike1992p Nope, it's a Hamer Sunburst. I think the color sort of leads people to believe it's a PRS because you aren't the first person to think that it may be a PRS.
I am satisfied. You hit more notes than Martin Barre does in some of his live performances. It's one of my favorite guitar rides. And, after all, it is improv, so you go with it as it moves you. Maestro!
But of course it's a Beatles shirt. :D My daughter bought it for me when the Beatles display was at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC a few years ago. :D
Yea, that was a bad joke...but you wouldn't be the first person to confuse my Hamer Sunburst for a Paul Reed Smith. They have a similar look, but a PRS body has more of a Strat shape whereas the Hamer Sunburst is pretty much the same as a Gibson Les Paul Double-Cut. Of all my Hamers, this is the only one that has been called a PRS and I think it probably has to do with the color. No sweat though. I'll take your bad joke in the spirit in which it was given. :D It's all cool.
PRS guitars DO rock...however, what I'm playing in this video is a Hamer Sunburst. I am a Hamerhead...I own 7 of them. LOL. A friend of mine has a PRS Single-cut that I enjoy playing when I visit him, but I do not own one...yet. LOL. I would have to say that Hamer and PRS are pretty much on par with each other, but I'm tilted toward the Hamers.
everyone go to my channel to check out my version of this solo and the infinate dreams solo, and fade to black intro solo. tell your friends to. please comment and rate thanks.
And if your point is that I sound nothing like him because I'm not playing a 1958 Les Paul Jr with a 200W Hiwatt...well, I could probably add 50 more reasons why I don't sound like him...the main reason being that I am not Martin Barre. HAHAHA. If you happen to have a '58 Les Paul Jr and a 200W Hiwatt I could borrow, I will be happy to attempt a remake of this but I make no promises. :D BTW, I don't think Martin has used that rig on anything since that particular album.
Can someone tell me what scale Martin Barre used to write this solo? I can see that part of it is the G pentatonic, but then he goes back to F and up to E. WHY? I've been trying to learn this forever... any resources???? HELP!!!!
I don't know what to tell you there. All I know is that Martin plays it differently every time he plays it, and for someone like me who plays strictly by ear or by watching others it's a wild ride. I am 1/2 step flat in this one because it was just easier for me to play the main riff starting in C. These days they play this song live a full step lower than the original to facilitate Ian's failing voice. God Bless him, he just keeps going in spite of it. :)
I've been playing for 7 years and there's still no way I could write a solo as memorable as that... I just can't find out the "why" behind everything. I know the scales and everything, but I can't figure out why certain notes fit even when they're not in the scale...
The reason is that "Aqualung" was written in G minor and at different parts of the song it takes on different scales OF G minor. For example, the opening lick is in the 6 note blues scale. But the 5 chord riffs around it use an Eb, which is part of natural minor, see? And don't forget even the B5 is part of the major scale! What's going on? Well, that's the magic. You get a young genius like martin barre doing nothing but rocking out for 6 months on the road and bam! you get a solo!
I was playing along to a backing track that I had made, so yes, there is bass, drums, piano, and you can hear my vocal in the beginning of this clip. This was one of my first videos and I had not figured out how to get the audio track just right at this point. I should re-do this one...someday I will. Thanks for the comments. :D LC
Thanks man! This is one of my very first attempts at making a music video so the audio track really stinks because I was capturing it all with my camera which was sitting on top of my amp...LOL. LOADS of distortion. I should do a remake of this one with some decent audio. Thanks for the kudos. LC
Interesting rock trivia: on the album mid-way thru Martin Barre's solo, there's a held note with a wee bit of feedback. Apparently this is when he waved to Jimmy Page, who had just come into the control room (Zeppelin were recording in the next studio at the time.) That's the take made it into the final mix. (From the Aqualung re-issue liner notes)
Nice sound. Good chops. Like to see you play more of your own shit. After the first 4 notes you can extrapolate as much as you want. It is a great solo though.
LOL, nope it's not fake. The audio quality is about as bad as it gets because this was one of my first-ever music vids. And for whatever reason I had the camera sitting on top of the speaker where all of the sound was coming out...duh...LOL. I've since learned some better techniques for shooting video and mixing audio.
No, the reason the audio is so bad is because I recorded this into the camera mic with the camera sitting on top of the amp speaker where all of the audio was coming out. This was one of the very first videos like this I ever shot...I've come a long way from this...HAHA. Yea, the audio stinks on this one. Thanks for watching anyways. LC

btw... Reportedly, Jimmy Page entered the studio, while Martin Barre was recording the guitar solo. It was during the first take, Jimmy waved to Martin from the control room while he was playing, and Martin stopped playing for a short second, and waved with his right hand, while still sustaining the sound with the left hand. The solo on the record is actually this first take. Indeed, there is a short sustain with feedback during the solo.
Yep, that's a Hamer Sunburst Flametop...plays like butter and the neck has a really nice phat feel to it. Hamer has won me over, I now have 3 of them. LC
I recognized some of the "live" elements in this solo. Sounds like one of Martin's solos from the late 80's. I've tried to play that solo 1000 times and never have sounded as good as you.
