  • i thought it was gonna stall at 1st.haha

  • I´m the best

  • Summer of 2011 I taxi'd by a C5... Awsome aircraft. The wings drooped..

  • Holy fuck! Your close!

  • i am really surprised to see a C-5 landing on Kwajalein. I lived there 2 yrs 8 mos when i was a kid. That runway is just barely a mile long. When I was there, the biggest plane to land was a C-141. I didnt think that would fit...now seeing this!! the C-5 seems to take up the whole airfield

  • oh my god! i saw a c5 galaxy land at LAX airport but i didn't have my camera with me!! ):

  • at the Air shows in san antonio texas they have one that flies and one you can walk in and its MONSTROUS! and i learned it uses reverse thrust to stop so quickly and when it uses reverse thrust lighting shoots from the engine to the tarmac!

  • man you were so lucky to get close to that beast...awesome xD

  • My favorite video on YouTube. I never get sick of watching it.

  • Ohhhh that whine! *wistful happy sigh*

  • Damn that thing is huge. It always was an event when it landed on Kwajalein.

  • 1 of my fav videos on youtube love the sound of the reverse thrust. damn

  • The AN-225 is nothing more than a novelty -- the Russians only built one!! The C-5 has been flying for 40+ years. And at last check the USAF still have more than 100 C-5s in service today. I'm going to miss the sound of those GE TF-39s!!!

  • beautifel engine sounds!

  • If I saw that coming towards me, I'd run for sweet life.

  • They're flying at 30 metres over my head. Thats an awful sound. I live near Ramstein Air-Base. Sorry for my bad English-skills.... I'm from Germany

  • I love Kwaj... A golf course with signs that say "Beware of Jet Blast"! But you've all got an excuse for over par! LOL!

  • WOW! The C5 is HUGE and noisy! It really sounds intimidating..!

  • awesomeness

  • This plane has a unique sound of its own! Neat video!

  • at 0:28 you hear a voice that seems to say "oh, não!"

  • lol i love living at the end of the runway at WPAFB with these flying over head all the time

  • a passenger version of this plane would be beautiful

  • these used to fly by my house but then they got replaced by c17s

  • I can never watch that too many times.

  • Loo nice reverse thrust sound

  • i love when the engine sounds are not in sync and it sounds much better!

  • this video is in my top 5 incredible sound omg

  • wow! the C5 is a HUUUUGE!!! AIRCRAFT!!! :O

  • that prety loud

  • wats bigger a c-5 or a c-17 globe master

  • @MrJp990 C5 is bigger.

  • @AirCargoHeavy it just makes me wnna ride in it more now -_- DAMMIT u wnna ride in a c5

  • @MrJp990 when i said U i meant I XD srry bout tht

  • I think it is funny how the Russians have small penis syndrome. The US builds a giant plane out of necessity. Then several years later the Russians build one bigger, just to show that they can.

  • damn thats big..lol

  • My brother used to be the crew chief of this type of plane at Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma, i took a tour of it an it is like 3 stories inside an you can fit a couple of AC-130's inside of it. When the plane is not runnig, it sits so low to the ground you cant even crawl under it at all. Cool aircraft

  • Holy Shit, this Sound is sooo amazing. C-5 Rulezzzz !!

  • C-5 Galaxy used in operation babylift, Vietnam.

  • the sounds like an American police cars

  • is that like revving, a reverse thrust or something?

  • @petaboil Yep that is the reverse thrust.

  • Incredible Sound!!

  • sound of god!

  • seems to be russian

  • @Erebonis That is an American C-5. The Russian AN-225 has 6 engines and a twin tail. That is also an awesome plane.

  • but trully both of em' look similar...(cold war conspiracy?)

  • @336kgf yeah but it can only land in designated airports due to a large weight and a long greedy pickup

  • @074377623 Just about every really large airplane has that problem. Still a cool aircraft. Stood inside one when I was a teenager and felt really really tiny.

  • look Antonov-225 kids =)))

  • I feel in love with them the first time i saw them

  • This monster actually landed on Kwajalein in the early 70s carrying General Westomroeland and his entourage,

    Completely unnanannoucedl

He popped his head into my office and said something like, "very nice, very nice". amd he was gone.

  • i'm living approximately 10miles north of EDDS in south germany, sometimes you can see and hear a c5 galaxy and an AN225, it's like a good song to me, not a noise

  • WONDERFULL!!

    WHAT A PLANE!!!

  • MUSIC to my ears, can't get enough of those engines roaring!

  • @Twinman2 amen

  • @Twinman2 Amen!!!

  • Where is this in?

  • I see now why they call it the Aluminum Overcast. :)

  • What a beast.

  • Jesus Christ these planes are so big. it doesn't even look like it's moving until it hits the runway

  • i wonder how hard it would be to control these things there so big

  • Which airport was that and where is it?

  • the person who recorded tis was a redneck lol

  • Love the engine sound

  • But those engines sound crazy.

  • I LOVE that eerie sound those engines make! 5*****!

  • Weird sounding jets

  • Damn thing looks like a barn with wings

  • Those engines! Powerhouse! Love the sound of the reversers!

  • what airport is it?

  • There are several C-5's stationed in Memphis with the Tennessee Air National Guard and when they come in for a landing and come over the house, you know immediately that its a C-5. That jet noise is so distinct.

  • The power up of reverse thrust at 0:45 is amazing! I don't think I have heard any thing so incredible!

  • I was once told that they sound like sirens, and I didn't believe it until I heard this very sound in Dover. It's just unbelievable.

  • its a Beast!

  • Awesome beast!

  • Sound as unique as a fingerprint. Heard them land at Pope AFB when I was living on Greuber Road, miles away, at Bragg. To this day I don't even have to look up to know it's a C-5.

  • Yeah, don't you love the engine sound?

Even though I also know what it sounds like, I just have to watch it land. It's soooo fascinationg!

  • u no wat engines are on it? coz on the vid link they sound lyk rr engines

  • CF6-80C2L1F turbofan engine is what lockheed martin chose to put on these things. each one is 27 feet long, weighs 7900 pounds and has an air inlet diameter of 8 feet. they are rated at roughly 43000 pounds of thrust a piece, give or take. i see them take off and land almost twice a day here on the naval base in norfolk virginia

  • if your at Norfolk you saw the pplane i was on land it was a 767-300 North American airlines because i was taking a visit back to the u.s. because i am stationed at lajes ab

  • Where is the Lajes AB in?

  • Azores on Terceira island

  • The C-5s are currently equipped with General Electric TF-39s. Once the AMP/RERP mods are done all C-5Bs (and the 2 C's) will have the GE CF6-80. C-5A's will still have the TF-39s.

  • only a few "test" planes have the C-5M conversion completed...They still fly with TF39's which you can easily distinguish by the "whistle" soudn from the engines. The CF6 is vastly superior thus far to the TF39s...quieter, more fuel efficient, and 22% more thrust than the TF39...my biggest question is...can they stand up to the tempo? Can they run for a long period of time before needing to be swapped out..only time will tell...I am 100% all for it as of now...makes my job easier :-P

  • I miss watching the planes land on kwaj, Its seems a lot longer then 3 years ago.

  • cool

  • it is amazing how we went from walking to flying then to taking off and landing in smaller spaces than ever imaginable!

  • The cockpit of a C-5 galaxy is 5 stories above the ground.

    'Nuff said.

  • I know this chick in the air force that told me they had to put in wires with sensors that would say when the engine fell off becuase these were on autopilot back in the day and they didn't realize when (or where) the engines fell off! HAHA It's true, trust me.

  • And everyone thinks the 747-400's are huge, you park the C-5 next to one and the 747-400 doesn't look quite so impressive.

  • especially at time 0:44...WOW

  • Anchor Chains,Train Horns, and the sound of C5's taking off and landing, are 3 of the best sounds in the world...holy shit i get goose pimples from hearing that every time! any1? any1? any1?

  • What an engine sound!

  • Another great sound is the boeing 777-200's engines.

  • That reverse thrust sound is fantastic.

  • Anchor Chains,Train Horns, and the sound of C5's taking off and landing, are 3 of the best sounds in the world...holy shit i got goose pimples from hearing that any1? any1? any1?

  • Music to my ears as well. I was stationed at Travis AFB for 2 years and heard them everyday

  • Nice/at mogadishu airport, there was only one runway in and out/i was stationed at the southern end ,in the dust bowl, where these baby's would taxi,turn,line-up and rev-up for take-off/.....out f ing STANDING thanks

  • @PhillyFlyGuys I agree. My dad was stationed out of Travis in the 70's and Altus in the 80's. You give me a C-5 engine sound and it will put me to sleep everytime.

  • I live in memphis not too far from the airport. And when those things land, they fly over our house and they are super loud!

  • Well, i haven't heard anything break the sound barrier, but i kno for a fact that when it happens it creates a "BOOM" sound and apparently is extremely loud since they made it illegal.

  • Yukwe!!!!

  • What a beast!!!!

  • The power up at the end you heard was the reverse thrust kicking in.

  • I GOT an idea

  • i used to live on a airbase with these beast, sometimes when they are doin approaches they look like they are just floatin in the air and hardly movin.

  • Anchor Chains,Train Horns, and the sound of C5's taking off and landing, are 3 of the best sounds in the world...holy shit i got goose pimples from hearing that any1? any1? any1?

  • Also the sound of a f-16 breaking the sound barrier incase you haven't heard it. :)

  • now you see, i heard and seen a f14 tomcat and f18 on the tube here, what's the link to an f16 breaking the barrier? thanks

  • You forgot to mention the sound of a Hemi at full throttle and the sound of a P-51D Mustang's Merlin Engine.

  • nope...that's your list

  • With them General Electric TF39-GE-1C turbofans generating 43,000lbs of thrust each and capable of swallowing 42 tons of air a minute at max. takeoff..... I'd hold my ears too!

  • it sounds like a police car, when it uses reverse thrust

  • Thats one big bird!!!

  • Amazing short stop. The engineering never cease to amaze me. Thanks for sharing. :)

  • where was this?

  • Kwajalein, Marshall Islands

  • hah hahahahahahahahhaaa hold your ears i love it. awesome

  • ya i was a charleston afb and you could hear one on an approach from a mile away

  • does afterburner work when in reverse thrust?

  • umm, no it doesnt, and this aircraft isnt even capable of afterburner (to my knowledge)

  • sorry I read afb as after burner, but it means airforcebase! doh!

  • Haha, Oh you!

  • No afterburner on the C5

  • The C5 has the first high-bypass turbofan engine (TF39) used on an airplane and she definitely has a sound all her own.

  • that plane has weird engine sound

  • Amazing that it can fly that slowly and be so big. Like a giant brick with engines attatched.

  • awesome video. was that next to a golf course or something?

  • Most awesome sounding engines ever!

  • I love the sound when she unlocks the TRs or spools up the engines. Almost sounds like an hold Thunderboldt tornado siren

  • If one of those crashès, it will take out a whole zip code, amazing sound of the engines, almost creepy

  • i went inside one at the age of 6 never forgetting any of it inclding the cockpit and the place for the army to sit. awesome plane

  • I almost forgot that planes that big could land there. I remember watching planes land a lot there.

  • o it seems very difficult to land that

  • how can people be standing next to the runway ??!!

  • Let's just say things are a little different on Kwajalein.

  • Looks like they are standing on thier feet.

  • Is the C-5 really that big or is the rest of the that small?

  • it is that big

  • I always said I'd never miss Kwaj after six years there. Well, this video did it! I miss it.

  • Man, what a machine. With its age, troubled past, and cantankerous nature, she's still a vital part of the nation's force projection capabilities.

The nature of wars will change. But you will always have a vital airlift mission--unglamorous, and not sexy like a fighter, but try to win a war without it. Not gonna happen.

I hope the Air Force continues to update these airplanes. Long live FRED!

  • Piloting one of them must be amazing! :o)

  • not worried about landing, how did this thing get out of Dover in one piece. :P

  • Kwajalein, Marshall Islands, Bucholz AAF (Kwajalein Kmr) (Atol) PKWA / KWA

    6668 × 198 ft (2032 × 60.5 m)

  • How long is that runway there on island? It looks pretty small for a FRED...
