Benoit just gives the creeps. What's with the Pat Boone outfit? Harmonies are in and out. Nope. This isn't Yes. So sad because they were decades ahead of thier time.
Benoit is doing a great job. I'm afraid Chris' voice is rather unpredictable these days. It must be very frustrating for someone who could just soar with such ease. Cut these guys some slack. Getting old is a bitch.
I had to turn this off. This is my fave Yes song and they're butchering it. The lead vocals and harmonies are sour and out of sync. Howe sounds like he's trying to channel Allan Holdsworth with those slurs. The organ sounds like a thin, reedy Farfisa instead of a cathedral. This song is supposed to sound gargantuan but they sound like a bad tribute garage band. Either get it together or let it go, guys.
God knows, I love YES and Steve Howe, yet Steve spoke of how YES were moving "forward" , the past is old, etc. Hmmm, I guess that's why you hired a guy who sounds like Jon. I saw the opening night of this tour in Hamilton Ontario and it was more like a "Jon Anderson Revue". Not easy shoes to fill, I know.
Vocals are horrible on this. Am I the only one hearing this??? I am all for new members. Trevor Horn was unique and an artist on his own. Benoit is a very poor stand-in. so sad.
Although I'm no great fan of Benoit, and wish Jon was back too.. get it right kids... a lot of the bum vocal notes on this performance are from Chris Squire, not him... This one was always right at the top of Chris' vocal register, but fair play to him for gamely giving it a go after all these years... Great tune all the same...
@grahamclews I listened to a Drama tour version of this and thought the same thing. Chris just cant hit some of the notes square. It's been dropped in the middle of other tours, whether Jon has been there or not.
...as long as Chris Squire is performing they can call themselves Yes. Without Squire during the late 80s they had to perform under the banner Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman,Howe cos Squire and White were doing their own thing.
Saw them myself on this tour and enjoyed it, Benoit and Wakeman jnr did a decent job and they did some of their more obscure tracks that JA probably wouldn't have included. Yes is a synergy, it was never all about one person - its just we prefer the "classic" lineup.
it's isn't just about the voice...it's spirit...and without Jon it isn't there...that 3rd dimension...sometning's missing...I can live with Rick's son in the band but without Jon it's like an angel without wings.
Jon Anderson isn't in the band anymore, and all the bellyaching in the world isn't going to change that. You can either accept it and move on, or you can sit around and whine about it.
I think Benoit does a decent job stepping in for Jon. Everyone who says this is some kind of fake, karaoke version of Yes is giving Steve, Chris, and Alan a big fat slap in the face. You act like they were Jon's hired hands for the past 30-plus years. They're as much a part of the Yes legacy as Jon was.
I'm glad most of the comments I've read here agree that this band should not bill itself as Yes, when the spiritual leader and "THE VOICE" who wrote, sung and arranged nearly all of their best music is touring solo. I'd rather pay to see Jon's solo show, though the ultimate would be if he ever gets back with the band, and maybe Rick too. Then to me it will be the real deal. Even if Jon's voice has gone down an octave or two. His solo stuff still sounds good and his voice is getting better,
What made DRAMA a great album was Horn and Downe's collaberation to the music. Benoit is just a pure imitation of Anderson.... he does a smoking job.. but he's just lending a voice. Horn had a unique voice, producing abilities, and lent them all to the sound of DRAMA. This will not be a new DRAMA.. he's just imitating the voice. So were gonna get a new album with a guy that sounds exactly like Anderson? again.. not gonna be a DRAMA.
Drama is Yes's best album after Close To The Edge and has a slightly harder edge thanks to the absence of Jon which was and is a refreshing Perpetual Change that is Yes through the years. Props to Trevor and Geoff for taking heat and helping make a terrific album.
In my not like this guy David Benoit tries to reach the level of the teacher's voice Jon Anderson, but it will not succeed and I think that left much to be desired Yes and I've always said is yes is the best band progressive rock band in history above all bands, but unfortunately this time his performance was not convincing.
@weeeendog That's Squire singing off like that. It's terrible, I guessing it's a monitor issue, because I can't imagine he would sing that off key if he could actually hear himself.
I think that Yes is the best Rock Band EVER, but they need a fashion emergency right now! Steve Howe, was a smart guy, can you please wear a pair of shoes more according with the music and images you promote around the world? that shoes and glasses refer to my grandpa! Steve, Chris , Alan, seee something inspiring, about clothes, boots, glasses and give it a hype, as you do with your music and talent: This is AUDIOVISUAL ENTERTAINMENT im an old guy to, but lets go guys, !! best. George.
I agree. Part of being a rocker is looking the part. It just won't be the same when they come on stage with their wheelchairs coloscopy bags. Their playing is also starting to suffer because of their age. Rik and Jon didn't even go on this tour because of health problems. If you have to send your kids out there as replacements, it's time to hang it up. People can give me all the thumbs down they want. For me, the magic is gone.
Let's make this clear: It's not Yes without Chris Squire. He's the only person who has been on every single Yes album ever released, every single song, video, etc. He's never quit or been fired, and he has the power such that he couldn't be. Jon has quit before.
I have always been amazed. Such ah high profile band as Yes, never has had any luck with keyboard players. They either leave or get kicked out. They always needed someone with a good left hand who could rock them or jazz them a little abit...someone like a Patrick Moraz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i was there but than again if yes is touring i'm there since 1978. anyway i couldn't believe how great the show was with out jon. oh ya hat off to young mr wakeman a chip off the old block
@matic3060 Even though I don't like the fugazy singer, I'm glad I found your page because you have some good stuff there with Jon and Rick! Thanks. Also, I don't mind watching this band on video, but i wouldn't pay to see them anymore unless Jon was singing as he should be. Again, thanks though for posting, From NYC, Nous Sommes du Soleil!

So sorry, I must agree with the posts having to do with the musicianship and vocals. I could care less about the clothes, but the SOUND is key.
Amateurs play for the love, but if you're a pro - fix it or don't play.
Bless you, all original Yes band members, for all your effort and art. Much love and RE - SPECT!
