  • another good posting scalpsie of a brilliant lyracist ,who never got the credit he deserved...

  • Usually in a song, there is one killer line, one line which stands head & shoulders above all the rest. But I have just listened to this song four times in a row & quite honestly, every line is perfect, just perfect. What a legacy Clifford left us all. One day I hope that he gets the recognition he truly deserves. Thank you for posting this & making many peoples lives just a bit richer.

  • Cannot believe that 1 genius didn't like it.

  • I swear by all that I believe in. My oath is sure in my heart as sure as I am alive. As long as I exist here on this earth I will not cease in obtaining Justice for my son Elliott. I promise my boy that for us "that the best is yet to come". Do not believe the lies, never doubt my love. You will not always be a child, one day you will easily know the truth and the truth will set you free. Never fall into the trap of hatred, as you are being taught by others. Always look for me I'm not far away

  • I cannot believe I have not discovered this great musician to any great extent before. What a terrific song this is.

  • If only we knew what lay ahead God rest you Clifford

  • I love these CTW tracks you put together. I was reminded of "Gaye" this evening (I have it on a vinyl compilation album somewhere) and it led me to this one and to "Home Thoughts From Abroad", both of which I had forgotten. I must try to get hold of a CTW CD - thanks, scalpsie.

    Keith.

  • @scalpsie

Thanks for posting these gems. I cannot really think of a more complete recording than this one. The memories flood back when I listen to it. CTW manages to capture something very special, evocative, moving

  • thank you scalpsie love every thin g cliff doeas

  • @thomasarig I always know you do...best wishes.

  • Thanks for uploading. CTW truly nonpareil.

  • simple yet beautiful song, and one of Clifford's very best vocal performances. He had a very original English tenor sound.

Some of his best songs are on the Both Of Us album - a real masterpiece.

  • I agree jm.Clifford was a special person. He was almost speaking in his music at a level that was direct, not condescending and a manner in which we could all relate to. The man was a pure intellect. So sad that he, Phil Lynott, Rory Gallagher and so many other great talents died so young.

It almost makes me cry everytime I hear his music and lyrics yet I'm forced to listen because they have such meaning. '

    Thanks CTW for posting.

  • Thanks for all your great work on this site. How about Jackdaw? I'd like that. xx

  • Extraordinarily beautiful

  • as always - a superb song from a great artist. By the way Scalpsie - what has happened to "someone I know" - I can't find it on you tube any more and always liked the song - bring it back if you can. many thanks for keeping the work of this great artist alive

  • Thanks 'scalpsie' for helping to keep the memories of CTW alive - more power to you - Hospital Radio guy in Leeds who met and became friends with CTW still plays one of his songs every week on his show.

  • Great upload, such a sad song,i was fortunate to attend a few c.t.w ,s conventions before his m.s took over,he always found time to talk, he was a great inspiration in my own song writing it was a great shame he never received the acclaim he so richly deserved to quote Justin Hayward he was our own best kept secret,R I P.you are sadly missed///

  • Yes I heard it too this morning on Ken Bruce's programme, on Radio 2. I had forgotten what a superb song with such feeling. I had the CD., but left it on a radiator one night. The case melted, and sealed it inside. I hope to get it from Santa this year. R.I.P Clifford T. Ward. xxx

  • Hi scalpsie, hope everything's fine. Is there any chance for uploading a video with Clifford's 1974 song Jayne from Andromeda Spiral. It's building up very slowly in the verses, but the chorus is just stunning. Love that one to bits. Should have been a big hit, really.

  • Ok...long overdue ...watch this space asap...best wishes

  • I was a kid just a hippy in jeans I didn't know my way, I wasn't able to feel, my parents never saw me play. I met a gentle man his music was from heaven above, his aching tunes touched me and showed me how to love. I grew to a man, big and strong, I saw my friends decline, but how I remember his songs. How sad that a loving soul should leave me now, that his life should be done, Oh how I wish for you Clifford that the best was yet to come. (For all that remember him and grew with him) Peace!

  • Beautifully worded and sincere expression of feeling.Humbled and deeply touched. Many thanks for watching and it bringing such bittersweet happiness to you.Thank you.Peace and contentment wished and prayed for.

  • masterpiece...the saddest song for those who love each other but cant get over thier own pasts..clifford gives us hope x

  • Beautiful piece of filming to a backdrop of in my opinion the best of our poetic singer/songwriters singing one of his most evocative songs. Total heaven, how lucky we were to have him even for a short time before he fell victim to the dreadful MS. Thank you for posting this, the man was a genius!

  • What a talent so cut short. There is no-one to take his place.

  • Just as Beauty is as beauty does I shall recall her as she was with girlish charms upon the sea like a pod of dolphins in their glee Oh happy few oh happy we like gentle squalls she came to me and wet the face of the sleeping sky And danced with light refracted by within the depth of memory Oh happy few oh happy we Like marooned sailors looking out To find this mermaid round about. But not to tempt us onto shore Nor rocks to cast our sails no more Her songs there in the seaweeds lie
  • @uncatila a wispered beauty by and by

  • I nearly lost my wife & soul mate to cancer 2 yrs ago and when I listened to the words of this most beautiful of songs it really brought it home that you have to believe that there is nothing more precious than life its self and I really do believe The best is yet to come as every day I thank the big man for the previous one. The words "and if you leave me now like you say you might........ brings tears to my eyes. peace

  • @jm9407 Clifford T Ward has very few peers as a songwriter ! His songs has such beautiful sentiments but also sadness which evokes such strong emotions. He wrote from the heart and it is sad and a great loss to music he was taken so soon from us ., but , ironically the brevity of his life gives sustenance and immortallity to his music and memory. Long Live ! Talent ! and a special gift to life !!

  • Apologies. No idea how your comment escaped my attention.Such sincerity and simple sense in all you say...the important things in life.Beauty in all you see and touch around.Peace my friend.

  • I wonder does he still sing these days?

Hi Carolyn, It seems from your coment that you weren't aware Clifford had passed away some years ago? He had a long and painful battle with MS which was really tough on him and his family. His music however lives on and will continue to touch us make certain moments in the day feel truly whole.. - Paul -x-

  • God Bless him, only the good die young. What a shame though. xxx

  • I am 51 and remember finding some new albums that my hippie brother had I was a young Bowie fan and still are, was into Al Jolson, Sinatra, and most rock music. However, when I heard this man sing I was hooked for life. Just like you his music can make me cry and I was a life long Scotts biker. For me CTW touches your emotions deep inside and his songs remind me of past loves, my wife and my two sons. His music and voice are pure magic and a true legend. Thanks Jim

  • @kevthe45man Well said my friend this is one special singer songwriter. This man moves me to tears and thats not easy to make this cynical Scotsman cry. This fan really misses Mr Wards musical genuis. He makes me think back to my first love, the pasion and the pain. He makes me think about my life and why I should make every second count. Thank you very much Clifford T Ward. jim

  • Like an earlier comment somehow this comment escaped reply ...apologies. It's such a sincere and heart touching song and I understand completely how you feel when it's played.Love it.Belated thank you for viewing and being touched so.Peace.

  • This song is incredible. Every time I listen to it, I hear a new nuance in a line, which can be said for all of Cliffords work. It is beautiful, in it's simplicity & gentle melancholy. The video is, incidentally, absolutely perfect for the song. Nice work !

  • So pleased the song touched you so and I appreciate your kindness with gratitude.Thank you.Peace.

  • You're very welcome....I was having a bad day, until I listened to this song.

  • the guy was the best thing out of worcestershire since lea & perrins

  • So delighted you have been reunited with this song and the words within ....my pleasure and so pleased.Thank you.Peace.

  • My wife left the house feeling really bad today. I tried a joke that turned sour. It's tough at the moment. I knew which song would start to recover the situation. I've visited here a number of times to listen to it. This time I thought I'd leave a message of thanks to scalpsie for a great video and for cheering me up.

  • Be cool ....much appreciate the sincerity in your words....peace my friend.

  • agree the music was so touching.

  • I love the songs. I kept on listening to it. May someone help me out with the lyrics. could not find it really. I happen to watch this while searching for some music video of North and South and i got this. a very beatiful song and melody as well. Thanks clifford.

  • thank you for this...its very touching

  • What a sad & beautiful song about loss & love, thank you Peter, you understand. Have never heard of this singer before, very touching...

  • Clifford was so wonderfully unique, he wasn't motivated by money & image, he only wanted to write great music, about love, loss & life. A tragic loss when he passed away, yet his music lives on more than ever now.

  • ive been a fan of ctw since the 70,s its still one of my faves . scooterman.

  • Such a lovely song, very English (in a wonderful way) like Cricket and Crumpets, beautiful, sad but uplifting.

    Thanks for posting.

  • After all these years, it's still one of my favourites. CTW is sadly missed. You are not alone 99marconi. We are beside you.

  • this is so...so ...sad.....lovely music

  • very gentle and pure song so sensitive.touches the past and we becomeaware somehow of our own mortality

  • Also heard it on Terry Wogan's show on Thursday 16 July. The song blew me away. Good work by Scalpsie here. Frankly been quite emotional as the song has brought to my memory my dear wife who has recently been taken from me following a battle with cancer. The verse beginning 'And if you leave me now' is very appropriate and not easy to listen to but still I do. Very beautiful, very sad.

  • I know how you feel - I lost my husband following his battle with cancer - we were married 33 years - listen to Scalpsie's download "Evanesence" - it says it all!

  • So very sorry - see my note on Scalpsies' "Best is Yet to Come".

  • Yes, thanks for your note. I took your advice on Evanescence. It didn't 'get' to me like this one for some reason - even though it is more direct. Anyhow, thanks for your advice/empathy and of course I would wish you the very best as you cope with your own loss.

  • Very touching comment. I do hope you have found the strength to get through this terrible time. I have been there, believe me I know how difficult it is.

    Best regards to you.

  • Would you mind helping me out with the lyrics. I could not find it. I love the song. so touching.

  • Just awesome, what a talent.

  • Great song. I heard it on radio 2 today so downloaded it. Never heard of Clifford T Ward before so had a read about him. Sorry to of his illness and death. Very sad but his music lives on.

  • Oh so beautiful ! I miss you Cliff .R.I.P. Love to Pat and the family . Doug (Beauchamp Ave)
