You will often see that the cartoon moorish and african heads on European heraldry have necklaces earings or a bandana. They were slaves, servants and possessions. It's sad but true. The eyes were originally covered by this bandana in earlier heraldry.The moor in Italian art was latterly depicted wearing a white band tied above the eyes, instead of the German imperial crown, to represent victory over the moors during the Crusades.
