  • i smashed mine with a cynder block soon after i got it, i have a drum dial in the mail

  • Ermm.. Again, What's wrong with using a regular key?.

  • a lot of the profesional drum techs ive met working as road crew for varius bands use this tool...i beleave it works just fine ... its a good tool to use in a hurry instead of staring at the dial.. another thing...you keep saying fine tunning and stuff... these are tools to get equal tencion... it all depends on wat sound and pitch you tune your heads to...keeping in mind the the resonance head must be tuned as well...

  • These keys work fine. They are to be used as a reference guide to get your heads close to the tension you are looking for. I also tune by ear and these keys are great to get close to the tension your looking for and then fine tuning, Thus your lugs must be lubricated to get an accurate measurement. Are you that lazy that when you change your heads you cant lubricate your lugs? If your allowing the lugs to form corrosion that just tells me your nit taking care of them.

  • Mine works really well. It's great for dark stages during sets and makes everything quicker. I am glad i got it.

  • This shit is fake. Tension rod torque can be used to tell you when you are over tightening a bolt to prevent thread damage, but is not accurate for drum tuning because of the difference in screw tolerances, plating, corrosion, and thread wear. For example, my number 2 rod on my 12" tom requires 1 1/2 turn and to get the same tone as my number 4 rod which i need 2 and a half turns to match the tone. Each drum is different and the only way to accurately measure head tension is with a drum dail.

  • Do people not know how to tune drums anymore? I can tune my whole kit in 6 minutes. And it sounds great, even in the studio. I don't understand the concept of items like this. Much like I don't understand the idea of taking a pill to lose weight instead of exercising and eating healthy. Watch some Bob Gatzen videos, they're free, and you'll get better results.

  • That is what a 12" tom should sound like.

  • Ear tuning. The best.

  • Yeah, big waste of $30... mine did absolutely nothing and made the toms sound worse than if i actually tried to tune them myself.

  • Comment removed

  • doesn't work.

  • Woah, woah, woah.. the evans torque key is $21.49 from guitar center NOT $30.00. Can we agree on that? And besides, I've used this key for about 6 months, there's really nothing hard about it.. once you know you're settings it basically is as easy as this video.

  • DID HE SAY DROP FORGE CONSTRUCTION???!?!?!

  • is the tama tention watch the same as the drum dial... cuz i want a tool that will help getting the best possible sound..

  • THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT WORK!

  • I use a combination of tuning resources, including the TAMA Tension Watch AND the Evans Torque Key. 1st I use the Evans Torque Key to make sure all lugs are torqued the same. I then verify my settings using the TAMA Tension Watch. This way I'll know if there's a problem with lugs or with the head. Finally, I fine tune using a Gibraltar Ratcheting Key, using one "click" at a time on each lug until I obtain the desired pitch. Time consuming compared to just 1 method, but very accurate!!

  • guaranteed for life? the plastic broke the first time i tuned my drums.

it works decently if you know what you're doing, but it doesn't seem like it's made very well...

  • i buy tama tension watch and it's not good at all

  • lol. fail.

  • @Billy982810 Your Face Fails

  • I just got one of these and I think they're great!!!! I don't understand why a lot of people say they suck, they really are good as long as you keep your lugs well lubricated and don't use ridiculously large key movements.

  • I just got mine this morning for christmas and its broken :(

  • who is better?Evans Torque Drum Key or tama tension watch TW100? plss comment

  • i think the dieal

  • ok, and the dial is evans or tama???:D

  • tama

  • @tibuflavius Tama has the tension watch, pretty similar to the drum dial wich is a brand of its own and theres a rythm tech torque key and an evans one. probably more of them to.

  • thanks

  • They're different. The tama Tension watch it more accurate but it's hella expensive. It mesures the tension of the head instead of the lug tension.

  • thx

  • it look simple?! :))

  • is this suppose to kinda be like a drum dial?

  • The video response is interesting because she states that its useless and then proceeds to get a pretty even tune!? Surely this would be a great product to get the head in the right ball park, then check tuning and if necessary tweak by ear?

  • dude these keys are awsome check the lugs as ur tuning like u are supposed to dummys they just get each one close not exactly the same

  • actually the reason its truly junk is a design flaw where the bearing that releases the handle when you reach the torque its set at can loosen itself from the hole its mounted in cause your key to severly over tighten even at the lowest possible setting. What worse is to fix this you have to essentially break the key further by removing the stopper on the handle so the plastic part will swing free, and then try to grab the small bolt the bearing is mounted in with your fingers and re-tighten it.

  • so yeah, buy a drum dial, or take some ear training

  • i have a drum dial and i cant get my drums to the right sound. i tune my tom heads are 75ish what d o you recommend tuning them to?

  • couldn't really make a recommendation, i tune everything by ear, the torque key was just nice while it lasted because i could start with all lugs at even tension and tune from there. really in the end the best way to get the best results tuning is to tune by ear and listen for the oscillation between the different lugs, the slower the oscillation the closer they are to the same pitch, and if you have a keyboard handy you can use it to give you the pitch you want to tune the drums to

  • what?!! ,they dont give you a manual how to use?

and dial is tama or evans??

  • Don't waste your money

There is NO tuning guide for the torque key

and you must be a pro at tuning to get the best sound either way.

It does not tune each lug evenly either,

get a drum dial and measure the differances.

Your best tuning aid is the drum dial. it comes with a tuning guide and you will be better satisfied with the great sound.

  • guess i wont be buying this from the comments its got!

  • Great video...but it doesn't explain which settings to use for your toms or snare. I have one but the manual didn't state which settings to use so you're still left on your own.

  • its all based on preference

  • That's true...but some people have a hard time hearing the right sound or don't know what sound they want while tuning. Giving a setting range would point them in the right direction.

  • good point

  • the torque key is junk, it's not advertised as a personal preference, it's advertise to tune your drums correctly each time

  • the torque key is a piece of junk, that's why there are NO settings guide

  • well duhr.

    xD

  • there seem to be a lot of complaints about this product. I bought this item, used it, and have had great success. The whole point of it is to get your ring equal all around. It does what it says. After you click all the way through your lugs, you just have to increase the setting a bit. The numbers do not tell you how many in/lbs you are putting on...it is there for a reference. My hi Tom is a 11(one full rotation around plus one increment of the dial), my low tom is an 8 on the dial.

  • my torque key NEVER pops, well it probably does but i never really know...can you help?

  • turn the dial to a smaller number, even going around a few times if necessary.....if that doesn't work return the key.

  • Fuck yeah I just bought this today to install a snare head, and its just not working out man! :/

  • how bout ya stop grabbing the metal part and only grab the black part?

    xD

  • i never grabbed the metal, only the black, i even made sure i didnt by just over tighenting one lug so tight until i notice the key will pop and so far no pop -.- so i just tuned back down

  • A combination of a drum dial, 2 drum keys and a good ear does the job for me.

  • nojoda yo me mato afinando a oido

  • jaja simon ahorita encontre esto viendo como afinar el redoblante jaja

  • ofcourse its advertised to work perfectly like it is supposed to, every product is...

and yes colly it works well for getting them around the same. sure your can use a normal drum key to do that but i think this is faster.

oh and just saying, i bought mine for 15 dollars new so im not so mad about it not getting it exact. i can see how paying 30 dollars when you could just buy a normal key and spend a little more time would be annoying :/

  • the torque key comes with no instructional guide also it is not as easy to tune your drums as this video shows

  • yes, i too read andwooedwurd's comment and agree this demonstration does not mention anything about fine tuning

i'm here for the obvious reason too,

i purchased the torque key but can NOT get the expected tuning results as advertised.

so don't waste your money like the rest of us did

  • I agree, the torque key does not advertise fine tuning or any other necessary tuning

    I wasted my money too

The torque key is a piece of junk

  • Tuning can be very tricky. The hard part for me, is getting the SOUND I want. I've had Drum dials and other gadgets and still suffer.

You do need patience, but I like most just get fraustrated.

So, now I take the kit to my Drum tutor who has 50 years experience.

He makes it look as easy as this video (with a good pair of ears, and two Drum keys).

I take the Drums home, and do what I do best.

    Play.

    LD

  • You said the torque key is a great product + it works perfect for a ball park estimate ???

Sorry, but the torque, is advertised to get that perfect sound the very 1st try as demonstrated in this video.

This video does NOT demonstrate any fine tuning or even mention fine tuning at all

A drum key, which cost much less does the same job as the torque key with

even 1/2 turns or quarter turns and so on,

    Then you fine tune

But glad you enjoy your $30.00 drum key key

  • I have torque key, and sometimes, when you are lost, which bolt did you tune more, and head has crazy sound, you can easily find middle way of tuning with this key; and because of that I bought this torque key

  • Well, I'm here for the obvious reason, as everyone else

I purchased the torque key but can NOT get the expected tuning results as advertised.

Don't waste your money like so many of us have

I too am sending by torque key back for a refund

  • the torque key is a dooky dooo

i took my key back to the music store and got a refund and purchased a drum dial

the drum dial works great and helped me tune my drums in about 3o minutes

  • refund is a great idea,

the torque key does not come with any instructions or tuning guide sheet

its just a mechanical piece of shit that does not produce positive results

    refund for sure

  • the torque key is trash

it does not work as easily as the video shows

  • Don't be fooled by this commerical ad because you will NOT get the same sweet results as demonstrated in this video.

You will spend many aggrevating hours attempting to get a great sound and you will never will be satisfied

Best advice, Watch the posted video response. It explains the problems with the torque key and how the torque key does NOT tune each lug evenly

Try a drum dial instead, you'll get a great sound in just a few short minutes.

    I wasted my $30.00 too !

    Billie

  • @billiehomes I just got one and it's great. Tuned my snare in 2 minutes. I think it's worth it. I'm super tedious when it comes to tuning snares and setting a pitch. Before it took me a long ass time to make it sound dece and even then it was a bit out. Don't tell me you've never been stuck fucking around trying to get an ideal sound for what seems like hours lol.

  • @billiehomes

Have you tried it? I know you said you waisted your $30.00 too, but it's $20. And.. Mine works perfectly. Are you sure you're using it correct?

  • I agree with the posted video response to this video and recommend you watch it before you make your purchase

The torque key is a waste of time and money

  • do NOT buy this product

it does NOT tune each lug evenly at all

this ad is trying to sell a product and you the torque key will NOT do the same for you as shown in this commerical ad

  • torque key is over pieced garbage

  • don't waste your money

you'll never get the sound as advertised in this video

    invest in a drum dial

it helps tune your drums correctly the 1st time around

  • It's not a great product because it is advertised as " the answer " to your drumming needs

It claims to tune your drums to the sound you hear in this video, but that will NEVER happen

You will spend hours of flustrating time

Get a drum dial for best results

  • evans ec2

  • Don't make the same mistake that I made.

The torque key is not a good tuning aid at all

It does not tune each lug evenly and you will spent many wasted hours

I just watched the video response to this video and it explains the faults of the torque key very well........

I just bought a drum dial and am very happy with the sound of my drums now

    Best to you All

    Jake

  • yes trash it

    get a drum dial instead

the drum dial helps you tune your drums great

    trash the torque key

  • dookie dookie

    the torque key is garbage

  • i'm calling evans for a refund

this piece of sh#@ is trash

  • Don't waste your money

No one can tune their drum kit like this guy is demonstrating

    He's just selling a product

  • yup i agree

    JUNK

  • please help....

could anyone please explain the setting on the torque key?

i'm really confussed because it did not come with any instructions

  • that's because the key is junk

    throw it away

  • the torque key is a waste of money

it does NOT tune each tention bolt evenly

    pro's sure don't use it

so why get sucker in by this stupid ad

get yourself a drum dial and save yourself hours of flustration

  • You obviously do NOT own a torque key

because if you did, you would have bought the torque key for the same reason that everyone else did.

It is advertised to be the PERFECT tuning aid as seen in this video.

LOL, your comment is just non sense

You need to watch this video again and pay close attention to it

This video is just a false advertisement to sell a product

Beginners need to by a drum dial for a great sound.......

  • Boy, they should have included your comment on the package, because as demonstated in this video, it's suppose to be the PERFECT tuning aid on the market.

The torque key is a piece of CRAP

  • I wasted my money too

The torque key is NOT the perfect tuning aid

I think the posted video response to this video explains the torque key correctly,

The torque key is a piece of useless junk

    Pro's don't even recommend it

Don't waste your money, get a drum dial

    for best tuning sound

  • At what stage was the key in the video set?

Sorry for this bad english but i'm german=)

  • You'll have to contact Evans commercial department for that answer.

This video was "stage" in order to sell the torque key.

No one can make the turns this guy demonstrates and get perfect tuning

  • the video response posted above this comment is a more - HONEST - description of the torque key....

before you waste your money like I did, you need to watch the posted video response 1st

  • haha I love how everyone is just bombing this thing with negative comments. but yeah it's true...

  • This torque key commerical ad is a LIE

Check out the posted response video below this video and you'll see for yourself.

    I wasted my money toooo

  • the key fucking sucks. I bought that thing for like 20 bucks and it was a complete waste of money!!! when you tune your drums go bye pitch and NOT tension. Also if you can sing the pitch and match it then that also is a good method of tuning.

  • I agree with your comment stefaneisenbeis.........

I thought the response video was the BEST.

The torque key is a waste of money, contact Evans and get a refund like I did

  • I agree with the posted video response too,

The torque key does NOT tune each lug evenly, and commerical ad content is NOT always TRUE

    We wasted our money too

  • All I can say is Copyright..this belongs toEvansPercussion..

  • Youtube does NOT agree with you

    Youtube BLOCKS all copyright material

But Thanks for your Opinion !

  • I agree with the posted video response

The torque key does NOT tune each lug evenly, so don't let this commerical ad fool you

  • I agree with the posted video response too Danial,

The torque key does NOT tune each lug evenly, and commerical ad content is NOT always TRUE

  • I trashed my torque key and got the drum dial

I don't have to spend hours tweaking to get a good sound

  • I HATE the torque key but I LOVE the video response to this video............

I do NOT recommend the torque key but I sure recommend watching the video response.

    ..JK5..

  • I wanted to stop back by to let everyone know that Evans gave me a refund on my torque key, because NO referance guide or instructions come with the torque key

and Evans Tech Support could NOT explain how to use the torque key with out having a good ear for pitch and tone.

I'm getting the drum dial this tomorrow.

    .

  • How did you contact evans

    I need a refund too

I still can't tune my drums at all

The key is no help to me either

  • If you are like me and many others and are unhappy with the torque key, may I suggest that you watch the video response posted beneath this video.

This lady makes an Excellant Point about the torque key, plus she suggested that I contact Evans for a full refund, which I have already done.

    Best, Tom

  • Awesome suggestion, Yes the response video does show terrible pitch variations as it did on my drum set too.

I tried the drum dial today and am much happier now

  • I agree, the torque key is GARBAGE

    do NOT waste your money

Oh, please do NOT leave me a bunch of Pissy comments,

If you LOVE the torque key so well, please send me your video of your drum kit sounding as great as this guys' drum does

  • Oh, be sure and visit Bob Gatzen's site here on youtube

He's an Evans inventor and a drum Pro and he does NOT recomment the torque key at all.

Visit him and ask for yourself

  • Thank you Rusty, Bob Gatzen has awsome video's on drum tuning and Evans drum heads

The torque key is a waste of money, .

  • The Evans torque key is a JOKE and a WASTE of Money..........

I just watched the video response to this video and I agree, the torque key is a waste because it sure does not tention my lugs evenly .

If you guys developed an ear for pitch , you'd stop BRAGGING about this piece of Junk.

  • I was ripped off too and I agree with you, the torque key is junk. And for all of those who think the torque key is grand, then you don't know anything about drumming yet.

I too have watched the video response to this video and I agree, the torque key is such a waste of money

  • Yea, I agree I wasted my money too

This guy in the video is an Evans Man and a Professional at drum tunning

The torque key is a rip ...

  • I WANT IT!!!

  • hey i bought one of these today and i really am impressed at how well it works my kit sounds fucken awsome. piece of piss to work so i dono y every one complains how hard it is to work

highly recomended if u want your kit to sound awsome

  • umm if u have 2 bass drums can u tune them the same with this?

  • Yes, assuming you use it correctly.

  • Comment removed

  • It's not going to be the exact same pitch because it is nearly impossible to tune two bass drums to the same pitch because no two bass drums are alike.

  • yeah i just got done buying a second bass drum finding out that i could make the new head sound like the old one on my other bass and then relizing i had to buy two decided to not have two bass drums any more i thought i was good at tuning( i use a regular key for now but im really antzy to get my hands on one or these evans tourch keys) but i couldnt get my bass drums to sound aloke enough tio please my ears evan after buying brand new heads so yeah food for thought

  • another thing you can do with two bass drums (which im gona do) is buy a double pedal for your right one and take out the muffling in your left one for a really hollow sound. Im going to use it for songs like "thunderstruck" by ac/dc

  • No 2 drums can EVER be tuned the same, check with any Pro

  • What on earth are you talking about dude,

Ask any drum manufacture ! !

No 2 drums are ever made the exact same because the manufacture machine's have a high +/- value and are not percise..

If you can tune 2 drums tuned the same, then you need to develope an ear for pitch.

Sorry dude, but your comments are misleading to other drummers.

    Stick to the FACTS !

  • That's NOT what you said in your

    1st comment ........

You left a MISLEADING comment to other drummers, Please do NOT do that in the future,

    No hard feelings ?

  • What are you talking about now.

Gosh, give it up.... The torque key is garbage, the guy in the video is NOT "tweaking" the demo drum.

He's just making a few simple turns and like magic, his drum sounds awesome.

And what kind of changes are you referring too anyway ?

Are you suggestion that a new drummer ruin their bearing edge by sanding it for a better sound or strip off one of the ply's on the shell

  • Jezzz, where are you getting your information from ?

Please show us your video of 2 drums being tuned the exact same and stop misleading young drummers with FALSE information.

Just because you say it is so, does NOT make it a Biblical FACT.

No 2 drums are ever made the exact same because the manufacture machine's have a high +/- value and are not percise as you just agreed..

  • Man!!! that tom sounds awesome!!! i wanna get one dude. is it good?

  • yup im buying one tomorrow haha

  • useless? how lazy and picky can 1 be? get a normal tuningkey

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • its a self explanatory tool if u cant figure it out ur retarded. Ive had mine for a week and the first time i used it... it worked fine so i don;t know what everyone is complaining about

  • FAIL

please don't use quotation marks for emphasis, idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • dude, your comment didn't offend. you're just a dumb cunt.

  • Comment removed

  • I bought one yesterday, and oh god I love it!

My Exports have never sounded that good, I didn't even belive that my snare could sound good lol

  • My god I did exactly the same. And I have an Export. I was gonna comment on this but you beat me to it lol.

  • i have an export too and this thing makes my snare sound god like haha

  • i just got one and i love it, i usually tune it freely to find a sound and then find out where each lug is and then remember that number, so i use the key and my ears

  • i cant get it to get that nice sound that the guy did at the end of the vid......the dial is from 0-1.....from 0 to like 6 doesnt even work.....it doesnt torque from 0-6 dats y when i watch some vids that show the tension for the key its like i cant get the sound and all cuz they askin to dial in to like 5 or sumthin.....so really need help how the hell do i use it???????/

  • Honestly, don't waste the money on this. The torque on your lugs may end up even but it doesn't necessarily mean the tension on the drumhead will be even. I've tried it and was not impressed. Nothing is better at tuning than a well trained ear and experience. Learn to train your ear and tune. Use google to learn how drums work and get a guideline to tuning. Like drumming itself tuning also takes practice. I'm no pro but the "quick fix" never really worked. It takes time to learn but its worth it

  • oh very true very true..every lug on my drums are diffrent tensions but then they sound the same..i was all impressed then i saw your comment haha....use a piano to help you out...and also most drums are in 4th steps so the tune "here comes the bride"....we all know...the part "here comes" in that tune is a 4th step to help you tun your drums

  • just got one...its good but not great....it's very useful. i dont know...i guess out of 10, it's an 8. I'm a perfectionist!

  • god this is so helpful i just bought one of these and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to use it, this is greatly helpful

  • Just bought one... I'll let you know how it works..

  • Well... is it any good?

  • This is something that I would love to have but wouldn't go out to buy.

  • dude i want that

  • this works if ur not a good drum tuner

  • so cool!!!

  • ha cool im gona get one
