  • Lol, this was made 4 years before I was born. Kind of cool to see stuff from the past!

  • groundbreaking station, thank you.

  • 88.7 actually had a life as an alternative rock station before 89X... back in the '70s as CJOM (the format was called "progressive rock" then). I think they then became a Top 40 and then an AC station before 89X debuted. The CIMX call letters actually stand for "Mix" which was the AC format just prior to 89X.

And 89X IS subject to Canadian content laws although as a border station they get to play less of it than stations elsewhere in Canada.

I love the Sunday morning Time Warp, by the way.

  • Support and command!

  • @asoundhound

Incorrect. Windsor is exempt from CRTC regulations requiring Canadian content.

  • Way to state the obvious everyone in Detroit knows its a windsor station and the biggest border city to a usa/canadian border is Detroit hence we have the best of canadian music since the air waves reach our city, while minnesota the whole state, is a useless market of "skip over" people in the usa aka no one cares and canada doesnt market to them like windsor to Detroit does.

89x is the biggest canadian station that gets broadcast in the usa its a simple search Detroit is the market. We own~

  • hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • Back in the 90s didn't they used to have some British DJ guy in the morning? In North America people think a British accent makes one an expert. LOL. BTW i used to like when they had that sex advice show at night - it was like Dr. Drew (& Adam) but it was a woman.

  • fuck, lighten up people!!!! It's a commercial 17yrs. ago!!! I thought it was kind of retro Cool!!

  • Wow, no wonder they want their listeners to start making their TV commercials :)

  • LMAO MAN I LOVE 89X

  • OMG!!!

    That's too funny!

I can't believe that my favorite radio station EVER was like this in the year of my birth!

    I'm so ashamed...^_^

  • I guess it's hard to understand how MUCH MORE CHEESIER radio was before 89X came along. At the time (I was 19 so I guess technically I could be your father or at least much older), this station was infinitely better than what was on American radio at the time. I guess I'm a bit too old for it now (plus I don't live in Detroit anymore) and I've got satellite radio. Glad to hear you like 89X. No need to feel ashamed - we can't control the year we were born.

  • I can't believe my favorite radio station used to be so cheesy. Yes, I can. They've always been do-it-yourselfers, after all. Plus, I was only five back then so I don't have to claim responisibility for said cheesiness. *chuckles*

    Thanks for sharing that.

  • The best station ever on the planet. When I go visiting family in Detroit area. To bad i can't pick up here in Gulfport, Mississippi on FM radio but could rock the mississippi gulf coast. Also i can listening to 89X online though. 89X you rock!!!!

  • but how do u find the music toput on>

  • I remember listening when the station was on only late-nite. I miss those days. 89X IS STILL AWESOME!

  • I disagree, no radio station in our metropolis plays a fair mix of music anymore. MP3 players are now the way to go!

  • lol, 89x, only station that makes me love this state.

  • haha the station of my wildest dreams.

i love 89x. its what people say they miss about detroit

  • holy hell, that brought me back to my younger days.

  • that was awesome... GO 89X

  • Ahhh, those were the days!
