I don't disagree with the statement that the way dolphins and Lolita live at the MSQ is wrong. But I do disagree with Ric O'Barry. First of all, the tile 'flipper trainer' is wrong. Ric did NOT train Flipper. He was an underwater camera specialist, and only 'babysitted' the dolphin between the takes. Secondly, he sais that 'back in the flipper days, we didn't have the information we have today'. Do you really need so much research to see such a dolphin capture is wrong?
@Monsterdavid22x how the hell do you what these animals go threw , what they think ,,,,you sir are a moron ,,,,,i can only imagine the type of scum you are...how about we put u ina cage or lil pool n see how u react.,....,,,,pure stupidity on your part ,
@therealCanablisS Agreed, ever since this was brought to mind, I watched Lolita: Slave to Entertainment. I. WAS. SHOCKED! I've learned a lesson I will never, EVER forget. Please forgive me!
I have seen dolphins in captivity, and wild dolphins, and all I can say is, nothing compares to seeing a beautiful creature free in its own habitat, to do what it pleases. To me, marine shows are fake, merely acts to amuse the fleeting interests of people. In captivity, dolphins and whales are taught to pander to people's needs.
It truly disgusts me.
I don't know about you guys, but I would rather see natural beauty than a "glamorous" façade.
Sure, the particular companies in the video are being cruel to the creatures, and I think that they sholu not hold the animals since they are not treating them with appopriate care and respect, but many do care for their animals!
None of these animals deserve this, the people who caught them had absolutely NO RIGHT to in the first place, these beautiful animals do NOT belong in captivity, they all NEED to go home, they belong in the wild, its what they were born to do!!!! This is apalling, the human race is the worst of all but its nice to know that some of you out there have the Respect and Compassion in which these animals truly deserve! Is there anything that we can do to stop this cruelty once and for all?

It's sad. Sad that former dolphin trainer failures--who admittedly had to starve their animals to death because they didn't know how to train--now make a living off of condemning a trade and industry they never understood. I guess the bright side is they're still doing dolphin shows, of a sort.
That video is so sad and true :( And it's good that Ric has been a trainer before and so knows what he's talking about. The video of the dolphins still alive on the truck always disturbs me and i find it sad and it always makes me cry.
I don't know I saw a whale trapped in ice in nature. He was slowly starving to death. I saw beluga whales trapped by ice slowly being mauled and eaten by polar bears. Can't people keep some animals in clean large enclosures with good breeding programs. ALlow them to interact with freshly showered and steralized people if they chose to with a minimum or absence of tricks. What about manatees why can't we cordon them off in areas of the ocean and keep them away from boats?

MSQ sucks, but parks like SW, LP or Marineland France are good.

I cry every time I see this video. It's so heartbreaking, that intelligent creatures like this are being held captive for our entertainment.

people need to see both sides of the argument instead of choosing an extreme

I agree, I think it's silly to think that these animals are kept for nothing but money.
Scarlohara 3 years ago
It's not "silly"! It's true! Look at Lolita! It's not in the animal's best interest to be there.
