  • any ideas what an '84, 2 would be worth? it's only a dot-neck and i replaced the white guard with a tan one. i need extra $. i think i paid too much for it in '84, though.

  • Should i get a gibson epoch w/ amp used or brand new epiphone les paul no amp??les paul $170 gibson $100. Plz givve me ur opinions.

  • @AJs209TV epi.

  • chode

  • You replaced p-90's with mini humbuckers D: But then im guessing you have so many guitars their's another one with p-90's and you just wanted one with the sound of the mini v.v

  • is he stupid or something? why review guitars if you have that awful shit sound all the time?

  • Is this guy for real?

  • swapped out the pickups.... you are no longer reviewing a gibson firebird

  • @JasonL1214 Dude you are spot on. He said a whole lot of modifications. So it's not a firebird it's a gibson frankenstein. LOL.

  • i think i speak for everyone when i say: "what a cunt."

  • the fender Jaguar is better than that shit. Just because it's a Gibson everyone think that is a good guitar. STOP BUYING GIBSONS!

  • @Backspacer12

    no :-)

  • @Backspacer12 i agree

  • It sounds more like a chainsaw then a guitar.

  • he bends too much

  • You're able to get new ones at Guitar Paradise (in Australia) for around $600-700... (in reply to when he said you might be able to find them on ebay and in used guitar stores)

  • Paul Chapman of UFO/Waysted used these with a PAF in the bridge. Listen to UFO - No place to run

  • this faggot sucks, stick to a first act

  • @esesmokeybear If you´re playing an unconfortable guitar you´ll suck.

  • hahaha at 0:54 haha

  • wtf the previous owner ruined a perfectly good guitar!

  • non reverse firebirds are sexy. but this twat has fucked this one up. And what an annoying prick he is.

  • Seriously, who gets a Firebird with the intention of swapping out the pickups? It's like the people who buy a Gibson LP Custom and swap out the pickups with EMGs!

  • @52Cheve u retard he even says its not the original

  • If you ask me his playing wasnt that bad but I have to agree with a lot of folks here...that guitar was ugly as sin and that Line 6 amp sounded like crap!

  • awful

  • I've always thought it strange that the "non-reverse" firebird was was the reverse profile of the original.

  • @Barnekkid Because the original Firebird's design is "reversed" compared to most other guitars, for instance the headstock is upside down.

  • @RichardGriffith10 Nah, I don't think that's it. I've had both of these guitars and I think the name came about because people didn't really know which model came first. Know what I mean Richard? It's just a cultural thing. It wasn't anything that Gibson did. For that matter the Explorer is more reversed looking than either of these, but since there's only one body model for those there's no discussion.

  • @Barnekkid I've got an Epiphone Firebird VII and a few people have asked me if it was a lefty that I'd converted to right handed. I mean, it's profile does look rather a lot like that of an upside down Jazzmaster.

  • despite the guitar is butchered... it actually looks good... I never liked the reverse look... but with full sized HBs it looks pretty good. ... don't get me wrong though... poor guitar... and I prefer the original reverse body.

  • okay, Line 6??? SERIOUSLY? you might as well just get yourself a banjo and amplify it through a glass bottle... plus, why modify it? why fix what's not broken...mmmkay?

  • this poor guitar.

the person who did that seriously needs a stern talking to about not fucking up a perfectly good instrument.

  • worst firebird ive ever seen. The playing, the guitar, completely soulless .

  • I'd sooner listen to somebody strangle a cat that his guitar tone.

  • it looks more like a fender jazz master than a firebird... not gonna lie

  • @52Cheve lets see for one thing if you knew anything it has seymor duncons in it 2 its a vintage guitar and 3 the dude knows how to play guitar so ..................................

  • the reverse baseball cap..also a rarity

  • Its a sad day for that guitar... and a sad life for this tool.

  • i have a question. why are you testing the firebird with a crappy line 6?

  • Eh..I don't like a firebird unless it's the regular reverse version.

  • Who the heck would take the mini humbuckers and replace them with Duncans??? IN a FIREBIRD?!?! Whoever did that is an uncultured philistine...

  • @Wiggin992 You mean Plebian, not Philistine, right?

  • @Chamomileable Actually I did mean Philistine, but Plebian would work just as effectively.

  • oh man he's voice is so annoying.

  • all guitars have sustain if dial some gain on the amp

gota test the sustain unplugged or clean

  • How can they compare this modified guitar with an original Firebird?

Hell, they took out all the components that made the Firebird great.

You can put Duncans in a $50.00 K-Mart guitar and make it sound heavy.

    Sorry, but this review sucks.

  • lol why the heck did you remove the middle pickup and just tape over the hole? it looks fuckin ugly

  • What a fucking ugly guitar.

  • uh well uh

  • that looks real ugly big time

  • omg, what an annoying guitar player & the worst sound ever!

  • @sgogiz1 Listen to a real amp and we'll talk about it. When you own a vintage wonder like this Firebird, it deserves a better amp than a digital line 6 with shitty settings.

  • That's a set-neck Firebird and it nothing like the Firebird Johnny plays. They stopped making this shitty version because of the imbalance issues and the crappy tone. The one Johnny plays and most others play is a neck-through guitar, is much thicker and is NOT neck heavy at all. This was a shitty Gibson experiment gone wrong. You should find a better (real) one and demo it.

  • @DarthKazi

    Hey again, Darth...

I agree with everything you've said here except that reverse Firebirds are not neck heavy. I own quite a few of them, and they are DEFINITELY neck (actually headstock) heavy. Those big-ass banjo tuners are death for that guitar. They dont work well in the first place (the ratio is too fast & they have straight cut gears giving them a rough feel when tuning). Second the weight and size of them contribute HUGELY to that guitars tendency to have headstock breaks.

  • @fillmorenyc1 I only played one once and it didn't seem as neck heavy as an SG for example. But it was several years ago. From my understanding there was a company (or still is) that makes similar tuners that have a 40:1 ratio (wow!) and are lighter and fit the Firebird perfectly.

  • jesus that sounds like shit man.

  • i love the non reverse Love it!

  • David, one can't really hear the tone of the instrument when it's signal is being overdriven through a Line 6 modeler amp. The amp compression is causing the overdriven sustain. It would be great if you would play it dry through a tube amp, then the natural tone would become apparent. All in all, a very nice demo, thanks.

  • perfectly good gibson firebird destroyed in front of your eyes

  • the selectors are diffrent..... 2 mini toggles for each pickup and the 3 way switch.....

  • if you dont know the year dont make it up you jackass

  • i own a original firebird 7 , 1961. you are surely a great guitar expert, but i have to say that this is just not a firebird.

apart the fact, that it is a" non reverse", and with other mikes,

it does not look, nor now sounds like a firebird.

    even with that amplifieir.

everithyng is different, including the frets.

the Firebird as been made as an answer to the fender telecaster and is able to have super "dry " treble sounds.

the diference are so big, that this is not a firebird for me.

  • @firebird72008

Just FYI, there is no such thing as a 1961 Firebird. They were introduced in '63. Check your serial number and Firebird history.

I agree, the guitar in the vid is too modded to be called a FB. Once those full size humbuckers went into it, anything resembling "Firebird" went out the window. And that Line 6 he's playing thru sounds like absolute dogs ass .

Calling that thing a '65 Firebird, and playing it thru that piece of shit set to nuclear meltdown is just flat out wrong.

  • @fillmorenyc1 you are surely wright, i bought it in 1964. at the end of the day, it was a mistake, this guitar is also none as t.he "fretless gibson", because the frets are so small that you do not feel them.

it was my first guitar, (not bad for a first guitar), but i got used to it, the easiest neck on hearth, and then i had to learn to change to other necks, with higher frets. and now i use it with a 11 set of strings, real heavy strings.

i am a real good guitar player, after 46 years !!

  • @firebird72008 Yes, I know that type of Gibson with the super flat frets!! Les Paul Customs used to be made with those frets too. I like really big, high frets myself. I have 2 reverse body Firebirds right now... a white Firebird V, and a green Firebird III. In my opinion, its the coolest body shape ever on a guitar, but its not for everyone, and tone-wise, its very "in your face"--not soft or compressed at all. Very unforgiving of sloppy playing, but I love 'em though!! :-)

  • @fillmorenyc1 Flat frets are really bad for intonation.

  • @DarthKazi Hey Darth...

It depends on which way intonation is viewed. If the frets are flat & wide, then they make intonation more difficult, cause the leading edge of the fret is not over the fingerboards fret slot... it is "ahead" of it by half the width of the fret. Conversely, flatter frets pose LESS of an intonation problem when actually playing, cause there is less string bending from finger pressure compared to a taller fret. Frets DO need to have a "peak" for correct intonation, though.

  • @fillmorenyc1 Believe me I know. I am obsessive about recrowning my frets after they go flat. I probably should just get stainless steel frets so they last longer.

  • @DarthKazi

Darth, if you find out who makes those tuners, please let me know!! Two of my Firebirds are Historic reissues, and I would love to retro-fit those tuners as long as it didnt require drilling any holes. As far as stainless frets, I have no experience with them, but players I know DO say that the tone kinda sucks with them. They say that they're excessively bright & lack warmth, but again, I've never heard 'em myself. They supposedly DO last WAAAY longer than nickel/silver frets tho!!

  • @fillmorenyc1 I did a quick search and just found regular banjo ones. If you are trying for a historically accurate FB, I probably wouldn't screw with the tuners. I don't have any use for historical stuff that works like crap. I'd throw on a set of locking Sperzl tuners in a heartbeat over old Klusons if I had an old Strat because I'm gonna play the thing, not keep it on my wall or sell it. But that's just me.

  • @fillmorenyc1 Stainless frets won't cool the tone of your guitar any more than a brass nut or a LSR roller nut would. I'd rather stick a warmer pickup in a guitar than struggle with having to refret a guitar every few months, personally. EVH's new Wolfgang is a great guitar and has stainless frets. It is a bright guitar, but his tone has always been upper-mid/treble focused. I like bright, articulate guitars myself. You can always warm the sound by turning down the treble on that amp too.

  • your voice in annoying

  • at 1:50 i literally thought he was gonna drop it and i almost threw up. no joke

  • what is wrong with line 6?

  • @kaka9419

Most of Line 6 amps sound really awful compared to any other amp. (Yes any and I mean it). Moreover, this guy obviously doesn't know how to set it right. The first few seconds are a pain for the ear.

A guitar like this one deserves to be plugged in a good tube amp, otherwise what a waste.

  • man. ppl are dicks on here. david is prob one of the best guitarist ive herd and his vids are great and very helpful. most of you guys are just jealous as hell. shit i am. he gets to sit in a room full of beautful guitars all day.

  • @mannnymanny true.. but the line 6 was a bad idea! lol David is great though, and atleast I got the balls to admit it! hehe

  • y the fuck did u mess with such a rare guitar fuck face

  • STOP FUCKING TALKING AND STOP FUCKING USING LINE 6 ON VINTAGE FUCKING GUITAR

  • anyone no a website that i can get a epiphone firebird (hopefully studio) plz message back

  • i wanna make sweat love to that guitar!

  • Sorry but this is not right...

    Line 6? rly?

    gogo Mesa !

  • Seriously, you need to plug the Gibsons into a Marhshall, VOX, Orange or MESA. Line 6 has the shittiest tone ever.

  • haha lower horn

  • That is not how a Firebird should be played.

  • YOU SUCK!! BUT I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!

  • why cant all you DICKS on this comment deal say something positive to this guy?

    stop being DICKS !!!

  • your reviews suck, your amp sucks, and you play the gayest music and manage to fuck up the best of guitars

  • gosh you suck at guitar and you play the same things over and over again! them anoying bends you do... :/

  • you suck at reviews...

  • I like Digitech products way more than Line 6. At least Digitech knows how to make digital sounding tones more organic. Line 6 is pure garbage, get that shit out of here.

  • Well,...I love Firebirds...but I wouldn't dare call this a Firebird. This is an atrocity. At most.

  • Ugh I fucking hate Line 6. Digitech is good for digital tones because at least they try to make it sound organic. Line 6 is pure ass.

  • okay dude. we wanna hear what the actual guitar sounds like. not your crappy digital distortion from your fucking 200 dollar cheap ass line 6 amp.

  • WHY DO YOU ABUSE THIS GUITAR BY PLUGGING IT INTO THAT PIECE OF CRAP LINE 6 AMP???!!?? TELL US, PLEASE! Next time plug into an mesa b.

  • horrible tone and boring playing

  • people who criticise line 6 because its digital, not transistorized are fucking noobs, and do know nothing about sound :/ my opinion.

  • This guy is such a F'n CLOWN who can't play a lick.... All he does with these videos is make a JackAss out of himself.... LOL

  • only a douche bag would wear a baseball cap like that!

  • @52Cheve

    Nice Play by play

  • @ddontforgett Danke Shein

  • not p-90s mini buckers man get your info right firebirds had mini bucker's...

  • @Soulshine59 this guy is such a d-bag, but he is right...a lot of the non-reverse actually came with p90's. this one probably did, too...considering the width of the holes when he held up the original pickguard. mini hb's would be about as wide as humbucers, but the holes on this are way wider.

  • not to dis david's playing, but plugging a Firebird into a Line 6 is like putting mustard in your gas tank

  • wow your all a bunch of pricks vv Nice guitar and stuff dude.

  • Hey man, where do you get these guitars? Are they yours? Cause these are some pretty sweet guitars!

  • A Line 6 amp...... are you serious?

  • I like the way he says: 'ROCK ON!' at the end. Love ya' dude! xD

  • you sure know how to fuck up a great guitar with that piece of elephant shit line 6 amp and your amazingly wacked out playing!

  • Godawful ugly thing..ugh!

  • you need style to play that guitar, one thing you def dont have

  • Looks better reversed in my opinion.

  • to me it looks like a mustang non reversed

  • Most redundant demo ever. What's the point of demoing an otherwise great vintage guitar if both the tailpiece AND pickups have been replaced? The pickups were one of the things - other than the shape - that made these guitars so different. The demo is made even more void by the fact that it's played through a crappy amp with a cheap overdrive. If I wanted to hear pentatonic blues and shredding on a low end practice amp, I could have just gone to Guitar Center.

  • i agree. not much point unless the buyer is going to do the same mods.

  • Comment removed

  • hey i have that amp...its a good practise amp but i wouldent play out live with it

  • what kind of mental retard jerk would pull the pick-ups, P-90's, out of an original firebird? this guitar is crap. it is not a light-weight guitar. it is very, very heavy. only the original 1952-1955 les pauls were heavier. whoever pulled the original P-90's out should be SHOT!

  • @teden20 jeez psycho

  • @teden20

some people do very stupid things to very nice guitars :(

  • I agree, not to mention trying to do it justice out of a fucking line 6.

  • They had mini-humbuckers, not P90s.

  • @haydenarias I saw one obviosuly not a orignal with lipstick pickups

  • @haydenarias some had mini humbuckers, others had p-90s.

  • This is the guitar used by the "Banana Splits"!

  • way to fuck up a great guitar

  • How right you are!

  • the non reverse headstock looks simolar to a strat headstock

  • Johnny Winter never played the Non-Reverse Firebird,

And your guitar playing really SUCKS!!!

  • @anthonycrystal33 Johnny Winter didn't use the non-reverse, but Gatemouth did.

  • i swear line 6 sucks so much crotch rocket plug that bird up to a marshall then try to blow our minds

  • yeah not bad playing bro but that tone, unplug that piece of history from that pos amp

  • good god what a horrible tone. watch phill x review firebirds and other guitars on frettedamericana. now thats tone.

  • so they changed all the equipment, played it through a modeled amp, and played it distorted to shiz. So this review is relevant to..... extactly 1 guitar. thanks but no thanks.

  • Why the f* did you plug this beauty in a LINE 6 AMP???????

  • @chichou667 i was just thinking the same

  • @chichou667 whats wrong with line 6?

  • @chichou667 because this retard doesnt know anything about guitars.

  • @chichou667 why not?

  • what kind of strings do you use ?which are suitable for the mini hambuckers?

  • What is with this guy??? This is the third "review" of his that I have seen and on each one he has the cheesy maxed out distortion.

Any fool knows that to demonstrate true tone you need to run the guitar clean. What kind of a spaced out reviewer is this??

  • Don't they come standard with mini humbuckers? He said p90's

  • Dude I subscribe to your stuff, but I am getting to edge with the crappy line 6 squashed tone. I've seen you place matchless amps... Why the heck don't you use them for the demos?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • How can you take this guy seriously? A Line 6 amp to demo a vintage Firebird? The hat looks stupid and the tone is vomit-inducing.

  • i had an mid 60's Firebird, and yes genius, they have set necks, some were thru later.

  • 2 Words: TUBE AMP

  • Keep on rockin' Johnny! Nice review! As for the whiners here, I think they should go whine someplace else. Whaa! Whaaa! They are probably still learning to tune their guitars. What would they know about tone! Rock on Johnny!!!

  • wow, what a game boy sound !!! crap, you broke my ears dude, stop that, i can't listen full video ...

    Shame on you dude :::::

  • shame on your mom... FOR LETTING ME FUCK HER IN THE ASS

  • this poor guitar is basterdized, and hes playing the shittiest amp possible

  • 3:17

its NOT nice to pull it out on youtube....

    nice guitar ;)

  • OMG. The Firebird is fantastic, but the guy playing is absolutely horrific -- comparable to a distasteful joke.

  • i just noticed, h e plays a lot of weird riffs , to start out

  • yeah, his riffs are lame

  • this guy is so bad at guitar 4 a self proclaimed expert

  • Firebird with set neck???

    Fail!!!!

  • @InfidelAntichristian The reverse firebird has a straighthrough neck and the guitar body is glued on each side, but pictures i have seen of the non reverse look like a solid body with a set neck...not sure about this, sorry if i'm wrong, but that's the way they look to me.

  • This guy uses the most tasteless bends in existence.

  • Were/who do you get/who gives you all the equipment?

  • Kind of looks like a left-handed guitar upside down.

  • dave grohl sucks. Allen Collins was the guy made the firebird famous, and Johnny winter......dave grohl shampoo's my nutsack

  • I thought Albert Collins made the Flying V famous maybe both.

  • horrible tone, shitty guitarplayer.

  • ya fuck u u dont know good guitar playing

  • ahahah. fuck you.

  • "WHATSUPUPEOPLE"

    ROFL

  • f*ckin LINE 6

  • 0:55

  • WHAT'SUPPEOPLE he shouldn't shout like that.
