  • As you say, it is what it is. Just about all the shows back then did the lip sync thing. It's still fun to look at.

  • this is fuckin awesome................ansley dunsbar on drums!!!! the other lads are blues purists. of course they are thinking they are sell outs. dunsbar is in between laughing. he went on to play with frank zappa in the mothers. this is a gem. a true diamond in the rough. keep up the good work! hang fire daddy-o

  • @throbbingdominoes I think the drummer is Colin Allen. Aynsley is really good. Didn't he play with Journey in the '70's?

  • @cameltooth1 They never give a good shot but I'm pretty sure it's Colin Allen on drums and Steve Thompson on bass. They also played together in Stone The Crows.

  • @otto32848 Have you seen John Mayall 1982 concert with blues greats? Mick Taylor, John McVie, Colin Allen, and Albert King, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Etta James, Sippie Wallace too. Really cool concert. You must see it/hear it.

  • my auntie josephine in her 80's can play better than these bunch of cadavers, yak is this the blues, what happened to Lonnie Max???????????????

  • who else has mr. taylor played with?

  • @roaringwaterbay He has also played with The Rolling Stones!! I

  • Always loved this album, and still have the vinyl- I'm an old time pot head from southern CA. Funny how there's no Hammond organ on stage, but there is in the track. ;-)

  • conkyjoe, thanks for the upload, brilliant! Ignore the moaners brother

  • This is welcome but APPALLINGLY bad coverage. Out of synch, clear miming and a ghost harp. Don't mean to be ungrateful - I'm genuinely pleased to see 60s Mayall on here but ... JESUS!

  • @TheGreenBadger Would you like me to delete it? It is what it was at the time. Mayall and company is not in sync. They agreed to mime the record live. Quit yer bitchin'. This is a historical clip, warts and all.

  • @conkyjoe My my, aren't we touchy?! Despite the repetition of the fact that it's welcome and the appreciation of seeing John Mayall. No negative feedback allowed, is that it? Because you put it up (thank you AGAIN), and because it was done a while ago, no-one is allowed to pass comment on the production values? Put your toys back in your pram you child.

  • @TheGreenBadger Move along, nothing here...........

  • @conkyjoe I agree, Mayall is a legend!

  • @conkyjoe Oh no, this is still superb!

It takes me back to when i saw them around this time. Many bands did the same type of filming back then..Jimi Hendrix Exp, The Cream, Procul Harum, Johnny Winter, Rory Gallagher...UK's Top Of The Pops was the show for seeing artists who weren't plugged in ( LOL). But it was all a laugh and Jimi certainly saw it this way. It's only music after all. Best wishes to you and thanks again!

  • I remember this song, and the entire album, very well. I still have it on vinyl in fact. Too bad these things were so badly done on so many of these shows. No amps, not even a harmonica being played! I mean not even a remote attempt to look real, and the bad looks COMPLETELY lifeless bored. Still, good song by one great band. And nice to have the clip of them.

  • Wonderful to see this footage - music is from Blues From Laurel Canyon (does John still live there?) and it looks like Mick Taylor on lead, badly miming as was standard in these far off days. Love the hat John!! I was only 18 when this was filmed - God I am 61!!

  • No amps? :D

  • moi et pat

  • playback?

  • 2èME ...J'AIME!

  • yes!...

  • what a shitty video. why bother if youre not even going to try

  • Steve Tompson bass, Colin Allen drums.... great musicians

  • Whos the drummer?

  • @woodsy1405 Colin Allen

  • Stoned... or tripping... either way it's fine.they got through it.. =)

  • playback

  • hilarious..... but I love these guys so much I forgive them for this "gig"

  • lip sync

  • Hmmm...... the bluesbreakers have had enough of this gig before it starts - leave this show for the Monkees

  • i don`t think he`s too bothered about miming and keeping it in sync:)

  • Mick Taylor pre Stones.

  • You have to wonder why they bothered turning up. At the risk of incurring the wrath of the 'real music' fans, if you go onto a show where lip-synching is required, then make an effort. Loks unprofessional - I presume May-hall didn't take a fee for this performance.

  • lip sync at it's worst... can't blame them... Milli Vanilli hadn't come out yet....

  • this is joke

  • who's the other guitarist with SG? i'm sure i've seen him with the likes of the stones or fleetwood mack? shame on me for not keeping up

  • @rugbyvagrant7 mick taylor was with the rolling stones before ronnie wood

  • Back in the 60s the theory was that you could not play it live and have it sound like the record...TV also was not known for it's sound quality so everyone did the cordless, amp less lip syncs. Rick Shaw even refused to hire our garage/cover band because we didnt play the songs note for note to the record!

  • what a crap xD I´m sorry for John "May Hall" xDD

  • The most apathetic lip-sync ever -- I love it!

  • Good blues..but already in play-back in 1968?

  • lol

  • You've got to be kidding. Who's supposed to be singing? Where's the harmonica coming from? Who's playing the drums, because the guy sitting in front of the one set that's visible sure isn't. Worst. Video. Ever.

  • That harmonica player is great. ;-)

  • @jimi71 you mean the 'invisible' harmonica player

  • Wow, Mick Taylor must have been only 19 years old here!

  • Cool ... Thanks for sharing <3

  • mick taylor owns

  • Band Manager: "OK guys, I got you this great gig on TV..."

  • Well look at all the people who noticed the bad lip-synch. What they expect you to do about it god only knows. I'd just like to say thanks for posting this rare and classic footage. I really enjoyed it.

  • More mime than Marcel.

    Remember... mime is money... ...

  • Who is playing the harmonica? hahaha. This song is from "Blues from Laurel Canyon", great album, the reissue on 180 gram vinyl sounds terrific.

  • i don't the band cared too much about its lip syncing.

  • they are doing a crappy job of lip syncing.

  • This playback may be the worst playback I have ever seen. I love John Mayall, the bluesbreakers and this song as well as the whole album but here they really show they hate to be there...

This is the first time I make a negative comment on the web!!!

  • This playback may be the worst playback I have ever seen. I love John Mayall, the bluesbreakers and this song as well as the whole album but here they really show they hate to be there...

  • misck taylor is fantastic

  • Classic Lip Syncing !!! :-)

    Happy Birthday 77th John Mayall

  • playing guitar with a harmonica in his hand ? ??

  • @durgaaa You wantesd to write that he plays harmonica with guitar in his hands lol

  • @durgaaa best comment evar!

  • @durgaaa well i don't think this is the only problem here :))

  • too bd it's a lipsync....

  • Great lip synching from JM...

  • mick taylor was a very good guitarist till he wasted his talents with the stones

  • 口パクパンク万歳$

  • Wow....they had wireless guitars back then!

  • They really enjoyed this gig didn't they?

  • Did he say John Mayhall?

  • @1canyonguy - YES HE DID!

  • Fun song! Reminds me when walking on Sunset when 15 years old. Pandora's Box, people dealing on the street (inevitable requests), clothes, unattainable gurls, Big Al's..

Thanks for taking the time to upload this.

Oh yes, Mick Taylor oh young talent (love his lead on "Vacation").

  • Milli Vanilli ain't got shit on the Bluesbreakers!! Great band, great song, but lip syncing at it's worst. Poor guys, how disgraceful to have to mime, but that was the norm back then

  • Yeah, obviously these guys were insulted to have to mime playing for the show thus their uninspired acting & Mayall's half heatred attempts at lip syncing. I'm sure they would have much rather played live.

  • how enthusiastic can a BAND BE WOW...ähämm

  • love how he brings out the harmonica on the second solo

  • you must be OLD now, too. I turn 60 in November. I saw a lot of great music then.... Jimi Hendrix 2x, The Doors, Moody Blues,Canned Heat,Arthur Brown (hair on fire!), Jeff Beck, BB King, Albert King,Charlie Mussellwhite, Sugarcane Harris, Harvey Mandel, Cream, Stones,Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Johnny Otis Show, The Who, John Sebastian, Elton John .

  • Great tune. Has such a cozy road house feel to it.

  • I love this track

  • top guitariste guitariste moroc rock maroc rock 2010 mdr dahk humour

  • John Mayhole? Did John break the hosts arm? These and other questions require further discussion.

    Oh, John Mayall. GREAT!

  • Sheesh. I saw them at the Whiskey a GoGo on Sunset Blvd around 1968! With Mick Taylor!

  • ugh...that must have been really painful for them to do.

  • Don`t you know what playback is eggymoo?Of course I meant the video, not the song!!

  • Best british blues line-up ever! You can tell they're really happy to be miming!!!

  • John Mayall is a rite of passage for great guitarists.

  • even they think this is a joke having to lip sync it seems

  • Playback sucks:D The invisible harp player rules...

  • Wow a rare vid of John Mayall. Just playing the dvd of his 70th birthday again and found this version. Never seen him in a vid this old before.

  • Who's John Mayhall?

  • @buskerbuoy The father of British Blues! Legend! A multitalented musician, who can play in a lot of instrument.

He was "innovated" a lot of great blues musicians like Coco Montoya, Walter Trout, Joe Yuele and lot....

In the video, you can see on left, in a hat.

  • @zzfanhun You'd be talking about John Mayall then

  • @buskerbuoy

He's the man who played with Eric Clipton, Jamie Page, and Peter Grey (of Fleetwood Mick fame) - among many, many others.

  • @marvinc999

Umm...you must be color blind... that's Peter GREEN not "Gray"!! and not "Fleetwood MIC" !! but "MAC" !!!

Either you're stoned, or a bad typist.. LOL

  • @japonaliya

You do realise that I was J-O-K-I-N-G, I hope ?

    If so - my apologies.

    If not, well..........................

Can't always tell on Youtube, I'm afraid - especially where Irony is being deployed. And we tend to 'deploy' it quite a lot THIS side of the Pond ;-)

  • @buskerbuoy I was referring to his pronnunciation you dumb fucks

  • wrong clip but great anyway

  • looks like they cant be bothered.....

  • I really like the guy playing harmonic, jajaja, this is a fucking disgrace of a video.Great band, though, playback is always rubbish.

  • Love Mayall but this is amusing. Miming the blues should be banned on all TV. Miming any music sucks anyway.

  • John Mayhall?

I knew the Amerians wouldn't understand the Blues!

  • @neohip you dont know your history to well. the blues started in the southern states in the U.S. especially around Louisiana and the Mississippi river. where did you think Muddy Waters got his name from? the black slaves on the plantations were singing blues long long before the British had ever heard of it, so you shouldnt be knocking them to much. eric clapton learned blues by listening to american blues musicians.

  • @neohip Americans createdthe blues jackass.

  • they are stoned out of their minds, and then had to lip scync.lol

  • The days when you had to mime i think...plus its timeless...ty.

  • Hahaha...fake but REAL ! ( :

  • Mayall looks like johnny appleseed..lol great stuff!

  • f'n funny. you can tell they weren't impressed about having to fake the singing and playing. what better way to get back at the producers/directors then make it so obvious it's all fake.

  • Man, that drummer is like what the hell? I was on my way to the store for smokes and they grabbed me and said.......

  • @lesde69 the drummer is Colin Allen.ex Zoot Moneys big roll band and then to Stone the crows...also with Bob Dylans band and still playing with Zoot Money and Maggie Bell in the British Blues Quintet.

  • @snowy1552 go to ..Colin Allen interview..on you tube.

  • This cut was from Blues from Laurel Canyon.great album!...yeah thats a strat thats been altered to the freakin MAX..why?..who knows!..what a mistake..and Mick on 62 Les Paul (SG)..lip synchin mo fo's lookin like they could CARE LESS!

  • Funny stuff, but so cool. John looks like he's eating corn on the

    cob. Rock On !

  • This is great. They seem to be thinking about being somewhere else. Goofy look'in dudes. Rock On !

  • love the energy

  • fuck audiences must have been gullable back then to think they were actually playing live.... its worse than fucking Countdown!

  • What the hell? Where is the harmonica playin?

  • mick taylor!

  • Well just two words "Ron sucks"

  • is that a les paul with a bolt on neck on the left? kinda looks like a strat neck.

  • Still love the intro with John May-hall, super FLA in the 60`s and 70`s..cool--

  • Did Roy Buchanon also audition for the Stones after Mick Taylor left? He was so wasted that he couldn`t complete the audition. He ended up hanging himself in a Virginia holding tank I think in the late 1980`s. He was a really great blues guitarist also.

  • Admirable,sublime , Tailor is God?

  • Tv show!Shit playback!

Money makes the world go round!

  • not sure who drummer is but taylor and bass player, if it's stephen thompson, are both teenagers when this was filmed.

  • Wish Mick Taylor had joined Canned Heat after Henry Vestine quit instead of Harvey Mandel.

  • you are such a fucking moron,,do not even try explaining ur logic about this asinine remark.

  • I just like his style more than Harvey Mandel. If stating one's opinion make you that angry you got problems pal.

  • @stonerbudkap Harvey was a great addition to the Heat, I was first also many years ago in doubt ,but he proved his worth, a great talent. Why the Stones chose that total loser Ron Wood instead of Mick I will never understand.

  • @talerdudansk It's funny that you mentioned that 'cause i read that Mandel auditioned for the Stones after Taylor quit and played on Black and Blue.

  • @talerdudansk,Total loser?I only have3

    words for you....ROCKING RON WOOD!!!

  • Good to see the harmonica appears at the end!

  • when i was a feshman at humboldt state this was new, just about my favorite at the time...

  • They don't need Clapton.

  • hello this is kind of the way it was.

  • A young Mick Taylor on the right, awaiting global Godhood with the Stones...

  • @steveconn

yeah, Mick Taylor was just a kid when he joined the Stones. I wonder how old he is there... 17?

  • Both great and laughable at the same time. I love the way they made little effort to make it look real.

  • Mayall always made his own guitars, I think.

  • I've NEVER seen John Mayall forced to mime.

    No wonder they look unenthusiastic.

  • Great song but I hate the playback!

  • @theodorus45 - They too ;-)

  • @theodorus45 How can you hate the playback? It's the original album track!

  • @theodorus45 LOL, they didn't even bother to bring guitar cables to pretend they're plugged in.

  • This track is straight off of "Blues from Laurel Canyon." Exact dup.

  • That's Crazy!

Mayall was playing that harp between his but cheeks.

  • for sure lol

  • John looks pissed off they had to lip sync or something. and the idiot introduction Mayhall he say's. Imagine how great this would be if it was live, young and in prime.

  • lol playback....

  • what guitar is john mayall playing?

    looks like a strat neck

  • Hey is that Mick Taylor on guitar.

  • Sure it's him.

  • if i was john i would of broke his other arme for calling me mayhapp. AND then did a crappy take on the voice bit

  • this is the worst lip-synching I have ever seen, they are not even trying to fool anyone

  • i think thats the point. like when Kieth Moon would just fuck around and make it so obvious he wasnt playing.

  • must be the point; the drummer is hilarious

  • Wonderfull this young John Mayall....I like this music sincy time of studying 1969-1972 ... great! it makes me smile and brought the good times back !!!! ;o)) thanks conkyjoe for posting!

  • Eatin a baloney sandwich-harp

  • laugh.

  • Good job. Made me laught.

  • Mayall actually lived in a tree for a period in 60's!! Only a real bluesman can do crazy shit like that

  • Keith Richard tried this and fell out of the tree....

  • mañana lo veo en jaen.oh john

  • bad playback LOL who is playing the harp¿?¿?¿? !!!! aajajajajaj

  • the guy says the band doesn't look enthused about being on tv, well maybe because they're standing there unplugged and lipsyncing, and the only one that's playing is the drummer.

  • Great great song! You just listen & smile or laugh! Really brilliant!Mick Taylor damn funky!Yeh!

  • "well you herd him boys. he called me mayhall. lets do a blues brakers crap job on lip singing. im not evan gunna act like im playing the harp when the solo comes up. that should show this jack hole that my name is mayall not mayhall"

  • Perhaps the worst mime ever!

  • An absolute classic piece of history - thanks conk.

  • Great song, thanks!

  • fantastic..but it's a playback...of course they were feeling bad fot it...

  • Did anyone notice that there is no harp player before around 2:30 but harp can be heard throughout the performance. The harp solo starts around 1:00. ;-)

Also the instruments are not plugged (as mentioned before) in and there are no mics on stage.

  • FANTASTIC...
