I Used to skate by this van on my way to work everyday it is owed by a man in my hometown of Stockton California, If you are ever heading south on I5 coming through Stockton it is right off the Monte Diablo exit on Monte Diablo Rd. This is one of the greatest songs EVER, I bought the soundtrack when it came out. I understand "Yesca" is simply a name made up by the studio sessions players who did this for the movie, one of whom is "Waddy" Wachtel, one of the most prolific sessions guitarists in the 70's. Look him up, it's amazing how many artists he's worked with and how many hits he played on. A huge talent in those days, listening to this reflects that- "give us a smooth riff" and it's beautiful.

No way did they come up with that before or independently from the movie. I am thinking the name of the band might be "Yesca". The movie came first. The band "Yesca" was a group of studio musicians brought together for the film to record the soundtrack. They all knew each other and played together on many occasions.

There was a lot of music that was not used in the film. These were essentially jam sessions and they used the best cuts...like this one (Theme For a Big Green Van) and another, "Here Come The Mounties".

They were simply named for the scenes they were used in. And yes, the name means weed.
