  • Great song, great performance at the best ever olympic games. Oh and i'm english not aussie.

  • this is one of the only songs where the chorus isn't boring after a while

  • Holy crap. This song is 25 years old but it still got the best and striking chorus of all songs ever written...I like how Garret sings a bit low in the chorus. I think he goes an octave lower then the rest of the guys...A little different then the original but sounds great..

  • 0:55 muhahaha!!!!!!!!!!

  • The singer is high ffs pycho

  • Could be, but i doubt it. he's always danced like this

  • why is this called "Time has come" when the title is actually "Beds are Burning"?

  • Bcoz they did`nt know what it was called

    Tard

  • look at the reaction of the drummer. they knew exactly what they were doing, that was not a mistake

  • Majestuoso... 5/5

  • the best show melhor visto por meu amigo FELAS

  • he messed up at the one minute mark.. lol

  • He did this on purpose.

  • but why?

  • I think he did it to prove that he's not singing with playback. Well, it was really hard to believe that he could sing that good without it.

  • possibly.. but are you sure he didn`t just mess up?

  • I'm not really sure, I just read that from the comments from the same movie (with other title) on YT.

  • he is doing that on several live videos, so i guess that it was on purpose yeah.

  • he didn't mess, he does that at live concerts

  • fantastic!

  • Comment removed

  • dude you relise this was thier most popular song?

  • Heyy !!!! the song name it´s "Beds are burning" ....

  • look at the description.

  • Sorry have reason, i wasn´t read the description.. thx.. was a offense to me change the title song for this fantastioc Australian Band ;)

  • it's fine (:

  • This was the best political statement ever made by an Australian Band !!! You cannot put indigenous rights on a bigger audience !

Maybe they can amend the words for beds are burning to alknowledge that Australia Says Sorry .

  • That would be stupid. The point of the song is to lead people to apologize, not advertise the apology after the fact. Amend the words? Useless.

  • I so wish I could have seen this band in the day. I play deisel and dust almost everyday and never get tired of it.

  • Go the OILS...garrett should not have become a political leader a big mistake..Reunite the OILS & tour Aust & NZ

  • our beds are really burning now... Peter's friend Kevin hands to us those extra-money we have to spend in shops to save the economy of our country!!

  • YAYY! PETER GARRET!

  • i read all the comments, that the singer has made a mistake at the first chorus. but i think that you must take a good look one more time at the reaction of the drummer. he seems totally aware of this moment, i think that was scheduled to be performed so

  • the name of the song is BEDS ARE BURNING

  • Comment removed

  • the oils never dissapoint live, there always awesome.

  • Yeah, as a federal minister he is doing more miming than ever before.

  • oops, first chorus

"how can we......how can we dance...."

    someone forgot the timing, lol

  • Oh well, but it was very minor

  • its called leading the crowd ... his timing was right on ......if you watch again you will see the crowd is singing with him .

  • i love peters dancing. he must have had alot of courage to do this

  • He's hilarious but i gotta say i love it too. Wish i could dance like that

  • Bullshit. So many times when foreigners come to Australia they ask Australians the question : "what about your aborigines?" and Australians sigh and say "Sigggh yes, it's a problem... Don't wanna talk about it"... the oils did EXACTLY the right thing in bringing Australias SHAME to a global audience. SHAME on YOU for wanting to sweep it under the carpet.

  • The oils did EXACTLY the right thing? Instead of making a statement alone, why not include some reasoning?

  • Yeh you know the story don't you. Dickhead

  • fucking insane performance, remembering living in sydney at the time and watching this when i was 9, i was fucking loving that shit!

  • It's hard to believe this was the scene only a year before the 9/11 tragedy. How quickly things can change.

  • Brilliant performance!

  • I saw M.OIl at the Basilica Block Party in the Twin Cities and they were absolutely brilliant!!! I love P.Garrett's willingness to take stands on social issues. I only wish more American artists weren't cowed by their record companies and government. Maybe someday we'll stand up and fight the power!!!!

  • I was at that show too; it was the last time I ever saw the Oils perform. Boo hoo.

  • That for me was the real closing down of the Olympics 2000

  • On YouTube you can see Aussie and Irish kids singing "I am Not at War" by Luka Bloom.

  • Is much this American needs to learn of our Aussie friends!

  • At the closing ceremony of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, the group performed before Prime Minister John Howard and a television audience of hundreds of millions, wearing black tracksuits bearing the word "sorry." This referred to the Howard Government's refusal to apologise to Aboriginal Australians for the former policy of removing of Aboriginal children from their families.

  • And back to Peter Garret and the Oils in their SORRY SUITS

Thank you for doing us proud that day

Thank you for taking the time to join mainstream politics

I sleep better at night knowing that your wise mind is on my side in government

    Making Australia a GREATer PLACE.

    We love ya

  • Go Wendy There are not many American social justice songwriters since the 60s/70s. Since Bob Dylan question the practice of calling adults negros 'Boy'.

I am sure that some silenced John Lennon.

So many people shunned the Dixie Chicks for making a comment that noone would have noticed in Australia.

Long Live FREEDOM of SPEACH and Thought!!

  • ac/dc is definitely Australian!

by the way America, when are we going to see some big names playing some revolutionary music in your neck of the woods?? ie other than Pink! Before the election would be good!! The people of the world are hoping an praying that you folks will register to vote, turn up to vote and vote for Obama!!

  • Fantastic!!!

  • ac/dc is not australian you moron. I will agree Midnight Oil is amazing though and this is a great live performance

  • Last time I checked, AC/DC was an Australian band !!! The greatest band that ever came out of the land down under !!!

  • So, metswon69, if you know so much about Ac/Dc, why is Bon Scott buried on Australian soil? Why do Angus and Malcolm have homes and family members here?

  • very goooooooood

  • The greatest Australian band ever. AC/DC can fuck off to America permanently for all I care, they've never represented Australia at all.

It took guts to make such a huge political statement, considering they were told they could only perform under the condition that they didn't make any sort of political speeches etc during their performance.

I'd love to see them live, but I'd also love to see Peter Garrett as PM...

    PG 4 PM!

  • Who are "THEY" who said no political statements, are Garrett could'nt play???sounds like a urban legend to me........

  • Trust me, it's general knowledge in Australia.

I don't know how else to convince you, but it;s well known.

  • ur an idiot dude dont discriminate against acdc they dont do shit here cause they are so good they dont live right in the middle of australia m8 ACDC are 1 of the if not biggest bands on this planet so they dnt come here much cause they are being successful from 1974-present day they are a success i like midnight oil but i LUV ACDC im not makin a h8 speak bout midnight oil but to say ACDC can F off is outrageous

  • and apologising stopped all the crimes they comitt?

  • Nice dancing..... one of a kind.......are the athlets the mosh pit?

  • I never liked John Howard...until we got Kevin Rudd. Being Aboriginal, I respect Kevin Rudd for saying Sorry, but what else is he really doing for Australia and the economy? Peter Garrett isn't that bad.

  • It's good to know that they weren't lip syncing like that girl in the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics

P.s:i know people are making fun of peter Garrett for screwing up at 0:59 but i don't know it makes it kind of better by giving it an echo effect, but thats just my opinion

  • I would love to have seen John Howards face during this performance.

What is Garrett going to do for the aboroginese now he is in power saying sorry is well and good but the should offer soloutions and support

  • Don't bag Pete mate. He's doing a good job. It's Rudd and his redheaded devil bitch side kick we must worry about. They are the real terrorist threat to Australia.

  • Beds are burning by midnight oil, thats the title and the artist. ok

  • i agree. i think rudd has no idea what he is doing!

  • Rudd did it for the votes, it cost him no money to do, he's not giving them any compinsaiton..

    What a fake...

  • Excellent!!!

We all need to pay the rent & STOP GLOBAL WARMING, we all need to do our bit to take better care of the planet, all of its people and wildlife!!

Thank heavens for Midnight Oil & Peter Garrett and thank heavens Kevin Rudd apologised for past mistakes, makes you so proud to be an Aussie!!! : )

  • Hi

How are you? I hope you are well like me and many thanks for this great video!

I love this song so much!!!!

Kind greetings from your Austrian friend Christian

  • Lets like wow group hug. NOT. Idiot. Apology? Big deal. Bet fairfax journalist are happy. Bit aborigines living in squaller aren't happy. Intervention all the way.

  • It keep another seven years but finally someone else said 'Sorry' Thanks to the brilliant Midnight Oil for their good old Aussie 'F%&* You' approach. The showed John Howard!

  • rolling stones look like kurdupels compared to midnight oil

  • Beds Are Burning is a song that is still relevant today as it was in the 80's. The song can easily apply to the current situation in America with Bush and the Neocon Neo-Nazis.

  • Perfect. thank you friend.

  • Now that Labor is back in government, it's good to see Australia back on track. John Howard damn well close to set your country back about 80 years. Glad to see him off! Australia deserves better.

  • The world needs more Peter Garretts and less John Howards. The guy is amazing. You Aussies should be proud to have such a man like Peter.

  • I bet little Johnny really enjoyed that one, up there in the stands :D

  • Hes cute

  • HOLY SHIT how the hell did he fuck up singing this? This is their one big hit at least outside of Australia, and it's live at the Olympics in his own country and he comes in too soon on the chorus!? He's been doing this song for years I bet. Wow, what a time to fuck up.

  • Everyone gets nervous, excited, whatever at some point. He came in on the chorus too soon...so what? The Oils will always rock regardless of petty mistakes you point out.

  • Oh jesus lighten up will ya, I'm not doing it to pick at him or tear him down, I ust noticed it and noted how inopportune of a time it was for that to happen. Relax boyo.

  • right.... but at least it shows that the song was live and not dubbed.

  • yo respect to peter in the official vid where he makes the robot dance =P he looks kinda retarded but who doesnt love his weird moves?

  • awesom!!!!!!!!!

  • hi gorris

  • absolutely brilliant!

  • epic

  • He can't dance. Seriously. He acts like an epileptic

  • So. . .what's wrong with that exactly?

  • It's not like he's trying and failing to dance, he's dancing exactly how he wants to

  • This was the best act of the Opening ceremony!

Memorable, especially because at that time, the f.....ing Howard government would not say sorry to Aboriginies!

This was so great, that all the world could see that the people were behind the word SORRY, the people were not behing the f...ing Howard!

  • i cant believe peter G was a singer thats just so wierd!

  • Best Summer Olympic games ever! Great song, too!

  • I cant wait until this man Peter Garrett is the PM of Australia.

  • The Lead singer messes up his own song at 0:58.

  • Who cares, he's great!

  • it is just me, or does his backup singer guy have a better voice? i noticed it on the mtv acustic version of this song.

  • It doesn't take much to have a better voice than the lead singer of Midnight Oil. That said its a great song

  • Perfect....in every way.

  • It was an incredible moment even for the people who was watching it live in the tv like me..the song has the perfect match with the sentiments around the olympic games that year. The song is a plea for the land rights of Indigenous Australians: "The time has come, to say fair's fair, to pay the rent, to pay our share." In 2000, the band performed the song at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Sydney but under the title "The Time Has Come".

  • DrinkMyEyes has understood everything. Do you remember Kathy Freeman?

  • He's got a great voice and I love the 'sorry' sweatshirts.

  • magnifique!vous nous manquer

  • freakin love this song

  • i LOVE that he's now Environment Minister!! And even more that we've said sorry now... =)

  • Yes that is really great!
