Holy crap. This song is 25 years old but it still got the best and striking chorus of all songs ever written...I like how Garret sings a bit low in the chorus. I think he goes an octave lower then the rest of the guys...A little different then the original but sounds great..

I'm a big fan of the oils and this song. Also, I'm all for reconciliation, but to sing this song wearing 'sorry' on their shirts (and therefore referring to an issue that is exclusive to Australia) at a global event wasn't appropriate.
Bullshit. So many times when foreigners come to Australia they ask Australians the question : "what about your aborigines?" and Australians sigh and say "Sigggh yes, it's a problem... Don't wanna talk about it"... the oils did EXACTLY the right thing in bringing Australias SHAME to a global audience. SHAME on YOU for wanting to sweep it under the carpet.
I saw M.OIl at the Basilica Block Party in the Twin Cities and they were absolutely brilliant!!! I love P.Garrett's willingness to take stands on social issues. I only wish more American artists weren't cowed by their record companies and government. Maybe someday we'll stand up and fight the power!!!!
At the closing ceremony of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, the group performed before Prime Minister John Howard and a television audience of hundreds of millions, wearing black tracksuits bearing the word "sorry." This referred to the Howard Government's refusal to apologise to Aboriginal Australians for the former policy of removing of Aboriginal children from their families.
Go Wendy There are not many American social justice songwriters since the 60s/70s. Since Bob Dylan question the practice of calling adults negros 'Boy'.
I am sure that some silenced John Lennon.
So many people shunned the Dixie Chicks for making a comment that noone would have noticed in Australia.
by the way America, when are we going to see some big names playing some revolutionary music in your neck of the woods?? ie other than Pink! Before the election would be good!! The people of the world are hoping an praying that you folks will register to vote, turn up to vote and vote for Obama!!
So, metswon69, if you know so much about Ac/Dc, why is Bon Scott buried on Australian soil? Why do Angus and Malcolm have homes and family members here?
The greatest Australian band ever. AC/DC can fuck off to America permanently for all I care, they've never represented Australia at all.
It took guts to make such a huge political statement, considering they were told they could only perform under the condition that they didn't make any sort of political speeches etc during their performance.
I'd love to see them live, but I'd also love to see Peter Garrett as PM...
ur an idiot dude dont discriminate against acdc they dont do shit here cause they are so good they dont live right in the middle of australia m8 ACDC are 1 of the if not biggest bands on this planet so they dnt come here much cause they are being successful from 1974-present day they are a success i like midnight oil but i LUV ACDC im not makin a h8 speak bout midnight oil but to say ACDC can F off is outrageous
I never liked John Howard...until we got Kevin Rudd. Being Aboriginal, I respect Kevin Rudd for saying Sorry, but what else is he really doing for Australia and the economy? Peter Garrett isn't that bad.

Oh jesus lighten up will ya, I'm not doing it to pick at him or tear him down, I ust noticed it and noted how inopportune of a time it was for that to happen. Relax boyo.
It was an incredible moment even for the people who was watching it live in the tv like me..the song has the perfect match with the sentiments around the olympic games that year. The song is a plea for the land rights of Indigenous Australians: "The time has come, to say fair's fair, to pay the rent, to pay our share." In 2000, the band performed the song at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Sydney but under the title "The Time Has Come".
Great song, great performance at the best ever olympic games. Oh and i'm english not aussie.

It doesn't take much to have a better voice than the lead singer of Midnight Oil. That said its a great song
