  • I like Victor on the vibes a lot! I'd have to say that my fave xylophone and vibe player though, is Roy Ayers. :)

  • Wow. Really cool to see Rick Laird so young (I only really knew him from Mahavishnu Orchestra Mark I). I enjoy Feldman's conception, and he has a great compositional ear ("Seven Steps" and "Joshua" are two Miles favorites.) Thanks for posting!

  • swingin... rhsc nyc

  • Gotta check out VICTOR FELDMAN.COM. Very cool!!!!!

  • love this Victor Feldman tune!!! Check out this video on youtube... Seven Steps to Heaven - Victor Feldman Live!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • My dad has a new website at Victor Feldman.com

  • Vic Feldman got the gift by GOD, he is unique.

  • victor was a unique player on the WORLD stage a fantastic musican a massive loss to all.i spoke to him briefly over 50yrs ago and he new people from my home town of leeds .what a lovely man .i was just a bop mad kid then but he took time to have a word.always remember that.i followed his career ever since and he went on to be one of the very best many thanks.

  • miles davis was dead right he certainly can play.super dooper.

  • NICE! How smooth is this

  • Incredible!!!

  • Absolutely wonderful!!! Like from Serbia!

  • @srbbgd1

    Drago mi je sto nisam jedini koji voli jazz.

    Two greetings from Serbia! :)

    Cheers

  • So great. Words fail to express how wonderful it is to hear Victor play. So creative and accomplished.

  • Great !

    Thank you.

  • Nice! Not sure if I can agree that Feldman was the first Brit to play with an American jazz giant.Peter Ind was in Lennie Tristano's group in the 50's, after all.

  • i have to say im 68 yrs old and i never fell into Victor Feldman in all this time,,holy shit.of course you immediately have to agree w/ ssg263 on Miles,God bless em all

  • Smokin hot! :)

  • I love the series of recordings he did with Shelly manne & his men at the Black Hawk 1959.Thanks for sharing.

  • Best Fine Trio I ever Heard

  • :') there my uncle on the drums god i miss him ( im not jokeing btw )

  • @katie200101 You must be Carl's cousin then?

  • I've never even heard of Stephenson, but he's got incredible feel!

  • Mahavishnu Orchestra Band Members (1971-1973)

    * John McLaughlin - guitar

    * Jan Hammer - keyboards

    * Jerry Goodman - violin

    * Rick Laird - bass guitar !!!!!!!!!

    * Billy Cobham - drums

  • This is one of the best trio`s .Ever.

  • These white boys can play they asses off! That's why I know that there's no difference between the races. We all have soul and we all have some thing to offer each other. Get down, fellas!

  • It's coincidental that you mentioned Derek Smith. I recorded with him when I was still a kid in NYC. It was a Jersey session in the mid 1970's for a good Italian singer. Jay Leonardt was on bass, but I do not remember the drummer. Anyway, I love playing Victor Feldman's own compositions.

  • Cool! What a fine musician.

    No wonder some 10 years before he started performing i trio in the US with a 20 years old guy named LaFaro Scott... Rick Laird has a tough role to carry

  • That's how a trio must sound!!

  • I totally agree regarding Dudley Moore - just study him and you'll see (or rather hear)

  • I prefer this traditional approach to jazz but putting your own stamp on it. This is great stuff! When people say they play their own music that doesn't mean it's automatically as good as anything that's ever been done. I love tradition taken to a high level like this. Victor Feldman was loved by the best musicians in the world and that says it all.

  • this is ppriceless thanks for sharing

  • in the words of Miles Davis: "Victor Feldman could play his ass off"

  • I agree with all

    the comments praising this . But let's not forget how good Dudley Moore was playing in this vein

  • thats my uncle ronnie on the drums no joke i miss him sooo mutch :'(

  • Genius pianist and genius viber .. Got into him after his awesome piano solo on Black Cow by steely Dan .. something else

  • Two English guys stand out on jazz piano. Victor, and the superb Derek Smith, who is still active at age 78 and thriving in New Joyzee!!!

  • My oh my! has my Jazz Education got some way to go! as they say on "fast show" N-I-C-E!

  • The first Brit to play with a jazz master? I think not! Benny Carter recorded with whole bands of Brits on the 30s, and he wasn't the only one. Then there was Ray Noble's work with people like Bud Freeman, Ronnie Ball with Lee Konitz....

  • his work with cannonball is phenomenal. Azure Serape, for example. Just have a seat good.

  • Spectacular

  • That's my great uncle..Havent actually seen him play since I was little...Good to see the vid.

    Good to see people loving the trio..

    Does anyone have any club 100 recordings..that I might not have!?

  • I have a big record collection and know there is about 3or 4 Victor Feldman albums, which ones are you missing?

  • Always nice to see Rick take a solo!

  • Thanks you !!!

    Grande Victor Feldman Trio !!!

    Bellissimo Ciao ciao !!

  • Listening to this style of music, you wouldnt believe that he played on dance track "Hollywood" and rock track "Hard times" by Boz Scaggs in 1977. Both songs charted as singles in various countries around the world.

  • What a great arrangement.This is as good as any of the great piano trios ever,considering they probeley did'nt play together as much.I love Victor Feldmans playing (with S.Manne & C.Adderley to mention a few)also i think R.Stephenson was one of the busyst british drummers at that time(Drum Spectular & 100/Proof)great albums i love to listen to.Thanks for posting

  • Don't anyone knock the bass solo! it's hard enough to play anything in A flat. Stephenson swings like Thigpen all the way!

    Totally there, guys!

  • why a-flat?

  • Because playing in Ab on the bass, you can't really utilize open strings, except for G.

  • this song puts a smile on my face.

  • Victor Feldman swings like crazy... I love it.

  • Terrific video, I have been a fan of Victor's since the "Arrival of Victor Feldman" record. great to see Rick Laird and Ronnie Stephenson too. thank you

  • Feldman's solo on Adderley's "Sack o'Woe" on the live Lighthouse album is one of the greats.

  • Fans of Steely Dan should be very familiar with Victor's playing on just about every album up to the Aja period. He played vibes and piano for them. A highlight is his piano on I've Got the News.

  • Broadway duchess, darlin if you only knew. Half as much as everybody thinks you do. What I hear may be true, I will still be proud to know you. Yes youre right, his sound is pretty unmistakeable isnt it?

  • Victor Feldman is great. Better than George Shearing the other major British pianist at the time. Drummer RS really swings.

  • That's my Great Uncle Ronnie playing drums

  • Beautiful playing.

    Seán

  • Light touch re Evans. of course {McCoy was a lyrical boxcar--I know that sounds strange but I think most jazz fans will get what I'm attempting to say}.

  • Along with McCoy Tyner, I felt Evans and he were two of most lyrical jazz pianists ever. I fell in love with Feldman's playing on Cannonball's Riverside recording, "Arriving Soon." Same light, ethereal yet tasty touch.

  • I started out with Bill Evans and that Riverside album with the gossamer cover of Evans partially obscured by a sheer curtain on what must have been an early saturday sun-lit morning photo shoot.

  • three abslout top-notch musicians....i agree that Ronnie Stephenson is far too underrated...as good as anyone IMHO

  • jee, what a treat, thanks, for more Rick Laird and Humphrey Lyttelton's wit, pls check the videos of Ben Webster and Wes Montgomery respectively on my channel, cheers.

  • What a pleasure, what a treasure....

  • More of Victor Feldman please !!!

  • You might think Rick Laird's solo is a bit dull but you try playing anything interesting in A flat at that speed! Nice one Rick! Good to see some footage of the good old days!

    Fergus

  • Good to see someone recommend Shelly Manne and his

    men at The Black Hawk.These sessions represents some of the best west coast jazz presented live.

  • I wish he would have stayed on with Miles; I guess he was making more money without him. He brought musical sophistication and great original songs to the Miles group much like Bill Evans did. Wow, to think what could have happened after Seven Steps....

    But then again, we wouldn't have gotten the 2nd great Quintet with Herbie, Ron Carter, Tony Williams and Wayne Shorter.

  • Victor's playing on: Shelly Manne and his men at the Blackhawk, is worth having

  • Thank you! I'm Victor Feldman freak.
