Yes, compared to Japanese culture, although kimbab is a similiarity to sushi, Koreans don't actually add sugar. Vinegar actually makes things sweeter, but nowadays even in families it doesn't matter how it must be made. I am sure your grandma's food tastes GOOD!!!!

Yes- that's right. Koreans did not add vinegar to their rice, like the Japanese did. Vinegar usually makes things sweeter.
