  • The violin sounds like it's crying.

  • @JezusSlave why do you beleive in god, just tell me i need to know.

  • @MegaSam1234 Faith can only be Given By God Himself, if you demand it...

I cannot say more, because i am an ingnorant...

  • Hey, you should send this to some movie producers. Maybe then we won't get such CRAP FILMS. I'd like to see a show like this. Cheesy effects and all.

  • Unbelievably beautiful. I found the sheet music for the violin and piano part combined into a piano solo. Soothing melody at its finest.

  • Eternal F. Shubert

  • 3'15''.... o.Ô.... good

  • @skullshoT7777 it also features very heavily in the games, usually (but not exclusively) when you visit the church

  • Very good you video!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See also, the tenor Felipe Peletta singing this song and many others!

  • An excellent performance by an outstanding violinist and a very good accompanist on the piano! Thank you adamwas for the posting!

  • Oh ... dear god... my ears they .. they orgasm, quick! get me a tissue!

  • this song, in my opinion, is best on violin

  • I was introduced to this song from the anime "La Corda D'oro" they played it like every episode lol

  • @NeptunePrincess04 Same here. I used to not care for the song, but somehow the anime made me get into it and now I wanna learn it, lol. On piano, though.

  • @GameAce6 lol same here! XD

  • You can find the melody in the movie Hitman :)

  • Thats alot of vibrato o.o

  • very nice

  • Where in the heavens did you get this video?

  • how can anyone possibly not like this it's superb , divine

  • the only song that has ever made me cry.

  • Great rendition!

  • 24 people don't know anything about music

  • Do all you trolls think in 1st position...? lol

  • 24 people don't like the black/white filming

  • such a beautiful piece

  • The twenty-four (24) who did NOT like this must be Klingons.:(

  • *looks down at comments* oh guess not o.o

  • *eye twitches* he's vibrato is funny o.o it's all.... I don't know.... Weird? He plays good though..... Is it just me?

  • @bioshockgril Vibrato funny? See the movie "They Shall Have Music" with the Maestro.....Funny?

  • @outoftunefiddler Heifetz's vibrato is sickly, too heavy and often inappropriate. Sorry, but for many of us Menuhin kicks Heifetz's ass.

  • @shiveringflower What do you mean "[u]s"? Do you have a mouse in yer pocket

  • @outoftunefiddler funny you should notice............:)

  • SIN PALABRAS!

  • oh, i mean...but i dont LIKE his vibrato ;)

  • amazing bowing and intonation, especially of the fingered ocatves, but i dont link his vibrato. its like a "switched on and off" vibrat in one speed. no expressiv development on longer notes...

  • Aww. It's so relaxing ;)

  • A noble performance. Menuhin had a stunning combination of strength and sensitivity in his playing, he was a true master of violin.

  • I can't believe how long ago this was. Amazing.

  • @bamboostinger - glancing at your profile picture I'd have thought it'd suit you perfectly lol

  • @bamboostinger

    your cool man.

  • UA me encanta

  • violinista53 thanks for a good comment i think i learned a new experience of it.

  • brilliant ^^

  • quatre minutes 15 de bonheur absolu

  • I feel like crying whenever i hear this piece

its like saying what my mother always told me:

although there are hard times in your life, believe in yourself and do ur best

the higher the notes go on the violin

    the more lighter i feel

as if the heavy burden on my heart got lifted....

  • beautifully put...tis a very moving piece

  • what 1;14-1;15 he come in wrong bow. i still like heifetz more becouse its more creamyer and he uses hes genius Mode switching ond its so comfortable.

  • @sk8channel100 That is not a mistake, that is purposeful. A quick re-take like that is an advanced bowing technique used either for drama or, other times, to create the illusion that we have more bow up our sleeve somewhere (I was taught it by a respectable veteran orchestra player and while it does seem insane until you get the hang of it, you realize it's pure genius after you do). Watch at 3:21 where he does it again in the same place. It underscores the increasing intensity in the music.

  • great team

  • very sensitive playing.

Imagine how heartbreaking the times were in 1947, especially for a jewish man like Menuhin. I do not know his personal history, but it must have been a tough time for everyo Europe.

  • incroyable

  • Magnificent!

  • And to think that this piece was performed after Adolph Baller had his hands purposefully crushed by the Nazis ..... very sad story, but makes watching this amazing performance even more awe inspiring

What a perfect piece of music played by two incredible musicians. Thank you Youtube for making this available for everyone to appreciate

  • This piece is beautiful.

The violin part moves my heart.

  • Simply wonderful!

  • Yeah, fucking Adolph Baller was tortured by Nazis. Those sick fucks broke the fingers in his hands...but he recuperated and came back with a ferocity.

  • What a gorgeous performance - the octave ending is chilling.

A lot has to be said about the painist - such good accompanying to stay with Menuhin in his romantic, laid back approach to this music. Credit to him!

    Music that moves the heart!

Well done to both composer and performers!

  • @Robzie123 Fuck yeah, at 3:13 it's taken to a whole new level...could quite possibly be the greatest solo violin performance with piano accompaniment. Certainly up there.

  • goose bumps all over my arms :)

what a beautiful piece and beautifully performed!

  • Thank you, Adamwas.....such a beautiful melody and what a magnificent performance by Mr. Menuhin. Love it.

    Danke.

  • Mir tut es leid.

  • Pleas note that my comment was not meant to be rude! The truth is: I adjusted your comment because I liked it! My apologies if I offended you.

  • Wonderful, nothing more need be said.

This piece brings back memories of a dear friend of mine, sadly killed in a road accident, we played this at a local concert when we were in our teens.

  • Typical Menuhin: The sensitiv Vibrato, the clear double stops and the varied dynamics. Really a brilliant performence! Thank you!

  • The genius Sir Yehudi Menuhin, performance

in1947.He had organized many free concerts

for the Germain victims of WW2!

    Exceptional personality comparable to

    Gandhi.

  • amem!....Noossa que musica linda!

  • inmortal music..........

  • Ahh, I got goosebumps while watching this. =)

A conseiller!

  • this is the most beautiful thing i have ever heard!

  • bravisimooooooo tocan de maravilla

    CLAP CLAP CLAP

  • So touching...real violin and piano.

  • Yehudi Menuhin...made his debut performance at Carnegie Hall...performing both.. the Brahms and Beethoven...Violin Concertos... for this concert...at the very early age of TEN years old...YES... TEN (10)...!!

  • Er...Now I can hear it...After one month...hahahaha

  • the piano was just the accompanist, right? this was for violin i believe.

  • THIS is a violin.

  • amazing !! :o its so beautiful..

  • Yes. Ave Maria is beautiful

  • lovely!

  • Indeed, It is quite lovely.

  • u have to turn up the volume quite high to hear it (well i did) wow nice!

  • i cant hear it!

  • beautiful

  • very very beautiful.... i have played "Ave Vernum Corpus" with my previous orchestra.

  • timeless

  • What happened to this - the honest, hard working development of music. What happened to genius like Menuhin playing genius like Schubert. I think once classical music has a grip on you it is extremely difficult to listen to anything else. Simply the hard work in manually writing out a score, some many hours long, or 8 hours a day practicing for 20 years, demands respect - true dedication. xXx

  • i think that what makes music of this tradition, bach and of byrd too, up to shoenberg and mahler so satisfying compared to 'popular' music is that, if you want, you can find some security in the fact that the music has evidence of being a deliberate and reflective process, on the part of composers and musicians, and not just somthing that is called into existence by the fasions of a particular time.

  • Now a days all you need to do is be a fast talker, put in a few average rhymes, talk about this and that, get some mediocre beat, and have scantily clad women dancing around you. LOL

  • couldnt of been said better. BRAVO

  • @curzmg: Capitalism destroys creativity in the field of the Arts. RIAA has a stranglehold on good music. If they don't profit from the music they control, you will just not hear it. Classical music is almost a thing of the past unless you listen to public radio.

  • is there a more romantic sound for this piece? it's just so melancholy and happy all at the same time!

  • i cry :(

  • me too!!

  • :-)

  • awesome!!! just awseome

  • Truly elegant, what is missing greatly from today's culture. This song is the greatest tribute to the Blessed Mother, yet all faiths seem to appreciate its' beauty.

  • It's indeed a magnificent piece of art... but was not intended for the virgin Mary. Shubert made this of a waman named Maria. True story, anyway nothing will take down this poetry.

  • Due to the song being played so often at Catholic Mass, I made that assumption....as you said, still a stunning piece, but it is important to be accurate. Can you imagine how much he loved her?

  • I thought it was composed as the music for a song in Walter Scott's poem "The Lady of the Lake". That song starts with "Ave Maria" and is a prayer to the virgin; and that's why people started to think that it was composed for the catholic prayer.

After all, the real name of this piece isn't even "Ave Maria"; it's "Ellens dritter Gesang".

Ah, but I actually couldn't care less. This is my favorite piece of music played by what I consider the best violinist of all times - could I wish for more?

  • Wish for a brain cell or two?

  • lol, I couldnt breath for several minutes after reading your comment...

    thanks friend

  • Cette rendition d' Ave Maria est superbe! J'ai eu des larmes au yeux! :) Merci pour l'avoir mis!
