I see all of the comments yet you are all missing the point. "Its not that Occupy Wall street is all of the issue, its the opportunity for people to speak out about all of the issues within the movement." "The movement isn't a movement until the YOUNG PEOPLE ARE PRESENT." We are the next generation and WE must voice our opinion before its too late. DONT BE SCARED WE ARE IN IT TOGETHER.
If we wanna be more effective about the "occupy" movement, remember this at election time. Ask the running candidates: "Do you support or are you against the intentions of the Occupy movement?" If they say they are against it, or even if they don't replay at all, then DO NOT elected that running candidate. Vote only for those people who see corporate greed as we all do, and get those profit mongers out of office!
What is wrong with all these lazy babies that cry when they don't get freebies? Don't you realize you should THANK the "One Percent"? The One Percent have been kind enough to share their wealth with us, if you are not happy with what they are giving you, then try to do better on your own. What EXACTLY are these bums protesting against anyways? Are they protesting the crooked loan officers, or the crooked home buyers? Loan officers and home buyers are NOT the One Percent. Get a job!!!!
Why would any educator encourage kids to listen to rap, if people get into rap because of them then they are going to encounter that absolutely abhorrent and vulgar views that the majority of the music in that genre encourages.
@TheTitsillator I have no idea what you are trying to point out with that comment, save that it certainly does sound negative, not particularly helpful...
Only the FDR Glass-Steagall principle will separate commercial from speculative banking, thus freeing the nation from obligations to Wall St. and the City of London, and re-establishing a credit system for rebuilding the nation.
H.R. 1489, Return to Prudent Banking Act of 2011, is before the House of Representatives, which aims to revive the separation between commercial banking and the securities business, in the manner provided in the Banking Act of 1933, the so called 'Glass-Steagall Act
The north won the civil war because of schools. Read history. School has been a mind f#k for our children for a long time. And bthw. The war had nothing to do with freeing slaves.
Gates is actually bringing in ideas that work but will hurt the union so according to the union it is "bad for students". As long as unions control the schools, schools will get worse.
Once you have the ability to read, write and understand a little about earth the vast majority of the GLOBAL Education system remaining was simply in place to mine the minds of people to find the ones that can produce the most capital/profit in the Global Finance industry. The simple fact is people qualified by this system cannot find work they have been and are still being lied to, to fund what ? A failing system.
The United States government finance is pyramid scheme, and the congress is corrupt. Just like many third world countries. Its about time, the average American wakes up and smell the coffee. To think, we have been voting the assholes into office all these years. In some way, we shot ourselves in the foot. Republican, or Democrat..no difference...its just a puppet show...the rich control the assholes.
Ugh, public education has been nothing but a failure... what did we do before public education? we went to the freaking MOON! now all we do is spawn PC kids and obedient debt slaves. Protest Govt and the FED empowering corporatism and continue civil disobedience but stop hacking at the limbs...
Education will never improve in the US. The more ignorant the masses, the easier they are to control. The last thing those in power want is a critically thinking public. Indoctrination from birth with religion, the media, and public schools. It's how they maintain their flock of obedient sheep. Our only hope is the internet. The Internet will set us free.
The business community/corporations don't plan to invest or reinvest in America. There will be move to totally dismantle public education in America ... hopefully they don't succeed.
Corporate model=tyrannical dictatorships = who can manufacture the most robots (students who obey authority without question) with the least cost ( least paid teacher with no benefits no tenure)...if they have their way they would carry education down that road..
They can poor millions and billions into government/public education, it won't matter. Public education consistently fails to do what it sets out to do.
@TheSelfGoverned Not only that, It's all about the curriculum that's being taught in public schools. In public schools, It's really all about the indoctrination to transition soon to be adults into a compartmentalized workforce controlled by the wealthy. If you want to know what the kids of truly wealthy people are learning visit a top ranking private school where they teach finance, business economics, public speaking and entrepreneurialism along with other curriculum that actually matters
Public education and other services in the US are such crap because they are intentionally underfunded through tax cuts, so as to drain them of resources and make them ineffective. This turns public sentiment against the State and makes people think "Gov't sucks", and then the right-wingers responsible come and say "This can't go on, we need to let in private entrepeneurs", after which they proceed to privatization and deregulation, which allows multi-nationals to make huge profits of our misery
I remember a "fold-in" from Mad Magazine: It displayed the "college hat" but the stupid hat is out of reach for the suckers -- however the "college hat" was transformed into a holy halo if viewed properly.
Then I realized education is the new heavens: The promise of safety, the promise of comfort -- an EMPTY promise that will remain unfulfilled.
Education is a scheme like RELIGION. Isn't religion unscientific & evil? The kids are in the devils lair! Burn the schools! DEATH to the teachers!
Educators, please, please look at the William Glasser Institute and "Quality Schools". Dr. Glasser has had decades of success working with some of the most difficult populations, such as schizophrenics and juvenile delinquents. He focuses on giving students choices about how they learn the desired lessons and in meeting their needs. Schools say it is too expensive to train educators in this, but the benefits far outweigh the cost!!
The Union doesnt want the community to have any say where the money is spent either. I like this idea get all of the students to leave class and show up at the occupy movement and protest for better education. If that ideal spread, wow, shit would hit the fan.
@WickedMo13 The Federal Government wants all the say about where the money goes, and their plans are more evil that we ever imagined. The states do not have to turn their money over to the Fed, they can keep it and spend it as they see fit!!
John Taylor Gatto demonstrates that the harm school inflicts is rational and deliberate. The real function of pedagogy, he argues, is to render the common population manageable. To that end, young people must be conditioned to rely upon experts, to remain divided from natural alliances, and to accept disconnections from their own lived experiences. They must at all costs be discouraged from developing self-reliance and independence.
That speech is full of win... every young person in the every country with this Prussian style obedience training program called 'school' needs to hear it. Hell... EVERYONE needs to hear it :)
Cops dream of smashing their rifle stocks into the faces of 12 year old girls. They would stove in their skulls in front of their mothers if they had orders to do so... they would absolutely salivate with hardons just to get the go ahead to be who they truly are... violent thugs. On the other hand a police officer would turn on his own brethren and arrest cops and banksters alike for crimes both against the law of the land and humanity. A police officer has yet to be seen in this fiasco.
Our public school system is horrfic not becasue of the teachers and staff but becasue of what and how they are forced to teach. Parents need to step up and get involved in their childrens education. Otherwise there is just going to be a bunch of drones walking around!!
As much as our finance system is unequal so is our public "education" system.
Our education system boils down to "repeat after me"...if I wanted military indoctrination I would join the services, I have learned more on my own using the internet and Libraries than in public school.
We need to start over from scratch with Public education.
@chocomalk Exactly, schools are institutions of ideology, I also have learned more on my own using the internet, Libraries and mainly other comrades than in school. This is not an american phenomenon or even a phenomenon, it is a direct effect of this capital-fa$ci$t system. If you start letting people, or god forbid workers, THINK they might get that their production is being taken by a corporate capital accumulating executive leech on society, literally.
There is a reason why critical thinking, logic, basic common sense and alternate cognitive structures are not taught as basic curriculum in public schools, in fact, the basics of how to learn on ones own and to scrutinize information is wholly lacking.
Look at Khan academy, it is 100% better than public schooling and it is free, and there is always someone you can ask to clarify on the site itself.
@chocomalk i totally agree! All these occupiers are angry about how much corporations influence our politics, but you know who contributes to political parties more than these corporations? Teachers unions! Want proof? Here you go... opensecrets. org
@chocomalk Amen x 2. Further, the educrats have just about taken over OWS in my city. They pretend to "empower students" but they are all about empowering themselves & their already grossly-inflated salaries (when one includes their nifty benefits package, even starting teachers make about 100K in CA for 9 mos. of work w/a "degree" that isn't even the equivalent of a private-school high school diploma.
As a pediatric doc, educrats are parents #1 complaint. Time to take them out.
Its very appropriate that you compare this 'education' system to military indoctrination, because it was actually invented in 18th Century Prussia for the purpose of making the masses more obedient. John Taylor Gatto wrote about this. The School Sucks podcast is another good resource.
Any replacement to this system worth a damn will have to include critical thinking in the curriculum. But most importantly, it should be about the student's needs, not the 'needs' of the State.
@chocomalk so true. its a factory system approach to education. one of the best ways to change is to become a teacher. that is what i did. i now teach history and social science to high school students in los angeles
