Actually as we are not in the USA, Norway actually has a solid economy that can support such services. They actually have one of the best emergency responses in the world. In fact I know a few of these guys who are actually BASE jumpers and Skydivers themselves. If they weren't out rescuing people they would be out doing excersice's practicing anyway. One of my mates who works on the choppers tells me they spend most of there time pulling German fisherman out of the north sea!!!

Rather than fines, I would suggest a Restorative Justice Conference - recently did one myself with my burglar, and it's an eye-opener. Victims meet the people who wreck their lives & have a chat about everything. Offenders do not usually re-offend once they realise the damage they are doing. Base jumping is similar.

@ukeboogaloo I understand your point of view - life does indeed involve many risks, that we take routinely, such as simply crossing the road, etc. However, nobody has the right to risk someone else's life. So when I see a helicopter doing a dangerous hover over an injured base jumper, I feel anxiety for the crew of that helicopter, who did not chose to take the risk. Perhaps we could find a happy medium by asking base jumpers to think more about the people who are affected by their actions?

Discovery blows. He didn't open his chute to AVOID the cliff! That makes no sense, would never help. He opened his chute because it was time to do so. BUT he failed to turn his wingsuit away from the cliff prior to opening. You can never be sure which way you will go when the chute opens so you want to be away from anything if possible. Norwegian fjords, depending on how you look at it, are some of the best, or some of the worst, BASE jumping locations in the world. They're the best because they're incredibly high, very spectacular and there's lots of sheer cliffs. They're the worst because, quite simply, they're the most likely to get you killed XD

Norwegian fjords, depending on how you look at it, are some of the best, or some of the worst, BASE jumping locations in the world. They're the best because they're incredibly high, very spectacular and there's lots of sheer cliffs. They're the worst because, quite simply, they're the most likely to get you killed XD
