I like Greg, over Armstrepo, any old day. I don't feel bad for Greg, at all. He's accomplished allot and if it hadn't been for his accident, he would have had two or three more TDF, victories. Greg, doesn't have x-teammates coming out of the woodwork saying he cheated all those years of rein either.

Lemond, hands down the best American cyclist of all time. Hampsten, is the most dedicated American rider to ever win the Giro.

He was a great champion, but he brought his failures upon himself. He is now a sad, bitter ex-racer. Armstrong replaced his the greatest American cyclist and he crying about doping. He went from winner to loser.

I have to call bullshit on your simplistic character sketch of Greg LeMond.

If you see him in 1985, giving up his chance of winning for his leader and mentor Bernard Hinault, and then in 1986 being betrayed by that slimy ass French frog, but Steve Bauer helping propel him to victory, and then overcoming a shot gun hit and in 1989 winning the Tour by 8 seconds with both heart and technology, and then again in 1990 to show it was no fluke. LeMond's story is a true cycling saga.

@nightowl8936 In 85 he was following orders not giving up his chance to win. 86 he was on his game. He has no one to blame for the hunting accident but himself. You must always be aware of where other hunters are. Without other teams helping him in 89, he would have lost because his team was weak. 90 was a good win. My main point is that when everyone exceeding his record he cried "Cheaters" none of the others great champions hated on the them. Hinault, Indurain, Fignon, Roche, Delgado did not

the reason why Lemond TT speed average in 89 was so good is because it was only 25 kms, & the terrain was flat & almost downhill. Think. In your mind Lance average speed came close but it was 200 kms going uphill. Lemond quit the tdf when he was already old but Lance quit in his very first TdF. Back when Lance was winning it all except TdF. Therefore Lance quit while in his prime. Lance disappeared for 2 years & voila won everything. Go figure. Google Lance's team mate Greg Strock.

He was regularly beating Cat1 riders when he was 15... Obviously without doping. The adults at the time were blown away by his ability. (I was there.) He has one of the highest VO2 levels ever recorded. Put those facts together and do the math. The man was born to be a champion, naturally. There is no evidence he ever doped, and a lot that he did not.

On a boat anchor with aero bars? What proof does he have that he was clean? Many others were doping at this time. Testing was very easy to beat back then.

Clearly he could have been using performance enhancing substances. Greg should be asked to prove that he did not dope during his three tours.

Lemond won three Tour De France championships on the square - a great victory in itself on top of his three great victories. He also paid the price for speaking truth to power but these days things have swung around more his way, fortunately for fans who want a level playing field.
