The best racing cyclist that ever lived? with out doubt it was an English woman. Beryl Burton; 7 world championships, 72, yes that's right, 72 national time trial championships, dozens of pursuit titles. In all, more than 90 domestic titles, the mens 12hr time trial record as well and had women been allowed back then, she'd have won Olypic titles too. May she RIP. Look her up on Wikipedia.

Simpson is not in the top 30 , has no major round victory .He was in the year that his goal on the tour they choose back for country teams .With all my respect for Hoban and Denson , Tommy had the bad luck to do all the work by him self and was standing alone .the day before the impotant stage over the Alpes , was standing on sixst place overall , he get s drink from Denson that was infected and became very sick .

Instead of abandon , he must ride of his manager , with the result everybody kwew

No one can not compares times , who was or is now the greatest of all times of the riders To say that the riders in this top doesn t take dope is very risky I wonder why for example Tommy Simpson is not in the top 30.Won 4 classics and became world champion .And he is certainly not died from a overdose drugs .Life insurance is self-paid.What about this rider i have extensive informations .

@bikeracerguy everybody on this list probably took drugs whether they pay a small part in their careers (Kelly's skill, Merckx's innovations) or make up their whole careers (Armstrong, maybe Landis)

Jan Ullrich never finish 2x3 in tour de france but just 1x3 (in 2005). He finished 4 in 2004 and he finished 5x2 too (1996, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003).... :)))

Dipende dai punti di vista. Il ciclismo ha più di un secolo di storia, ed è uno sport nel quale si può essere campioni in molti modi diversi. Pantani è stato probabilmente il miglior grimpeur di sempre, ma in pianura e in volata era uno dei tanti. Fortissimo nelle corse a tappe, non ha mai combinato granché nelle classiche.

I 24 che lo precedono sono tutti grandi campioni. Dietro di loro il grande Marco non sfigura di certo.

Very nice, thanks for this. Selection really a subjective exercise - but fun. I see it Merckx, Anquetil, Coppi, Hinault, Armstrong. With more ambition Anquetil (my personal ATF) could have been numero uno - and who knows what Batali could have achieved, save for WW II.

I always been told that Magni was good but not a great climber. It's incredible to see how much he has won while he was riding with guys like Coppi, Bartali, van Steenbergen, Bobet, Kubler, Koblet, Robic, Geminiani, Bahamontes, Gaul, Stan Ockers, Nencini and Impanis. He even became second in the Giro of 1956 with a broken collar bone. Respect!!!

I, like thousands of other (gomer) Americans have my ubiquitous lance bracelet, my Trek uber carbon (with Shi_mano, of course) bikes, black socks and the rest and I'm telling ya, there's only lance...., right?

Great clip, we don't have to talk about the rankling, it's a joke?! I saw a lot of mistakes in the palmares. for example Ullrich was 5x 2nd in the Tour and he won the Tour of Switzerland 2 times
