actually, it's called an epidural hematoma...it results from laceration of the middle meningeal artery in your brain. The blood bleeds into your skull and increases the pressure on your brain which eventually kills you. and if they had taken her to the hospital immediately instead of delaying, they could have relieved the pressure and saved her life.

The big mistake was not getting her in that first ambulance. You did the right thing, have a doctor look at it. It may require a CT scan. The injury she had is impossible to see from the outside. NEVER refuse medical assistance after a head injury! If your brain is bleeding you will die, every second counts!

Not as freakish as you think. She had a hematoma, leeding on the outside of the brain. The pools and has nowhere to go, it is trapped in her skull. The pressure builds and can only push into the brain. The brain slowly shuts down. It is impossible to see from the outside. She really needed to take that first ambulance and she would have had a chance. She needed surgery to evacuate the hematoma immediately. I barely survived this same injury last year with quick medical service.

I just read on CNN that there was a young girl in Ohio who got accidentally hit in the head with a baseball and, besides a lump from where the ball hit her, seemed fine afterwords. 2 days went by before she started complaining of a headache. The parents took the girl to the emergency room, and after a test, was quickly flown to a children's hospital in Cleveland. It turns out she had the same injury as Natasha. But luckily the girl was fine after a surgery and 5 days rest in the hospital.
