Honestly, is the fact that only six of the fifty states in the USA (twelve percent) recognize same sex marriage, something to be proud of?

Especially since ten other entire countries have already reached full equality!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but because of the Defense of Marriage Act, you and any other gay couples who choose to get married in NYC are NOT EQUAL. You have no access to the many federal benefits available to straight couples, no immigration rights, no right to file in federal court for bankruptcy, and on and on and on. Marriage and its restrictions aren't part of my dream of sexual liberation, but I'm glad that for those of you for whom it is, you can now live it, encumbered only by its inherent difficulties!
