The old AMG's were indeed just power and nothing else, but their newer models have become serious competition to BMW's M models. And speaking of N/A v8's... Merc is still working on it's marvellous 6.2 engine, while BMW doesn't seem to be interested in building any new N/A engines at all. Merc even introduced a new N/A V8 recently which will be used in the SLK AMG.

@kaban28 Actually, it's not hard to trap 13sec flat in the 1/4 w/ a stock E39 M5. Some have even broken into the very high 12s, just takes the right driver. But yea for your average driver, a 13.5 is not uncommon.
the e55 will smoke the standaard m5 but obviously its tuned, and for the reccord this is a w211 e55 amg 476 Hp WITH compressor the older models don't have compressors w210
