I absolutely cannot choose between this version and Dottie's. I love hers because she wrote it and that's the original, but Ray (whom I've had the honor of interviewing twice) always leaves a stamp on a song which makes it his own, using only that voice from Heaven. Whether Ray is singing his own material or someone else's, he is amazing.
I certainly agree with some of the other comments to the effect that Ray Price has one of the very best -- if not the best -- voices among all C&W singers. And what a great song this is, too.

@atmailcalltoday I could have a different favorite song or singer every day of the month. Today it's Ray Price and walk me to the door no wait Merl singing the way I am. The only guy in a league of his own is George Jones. John Cash said it best when asked who the greatest was, he said you mean besides George.
Ray and George are without doubt the greatest of vocal stylists in country music, I personally think George is the most versatile , he can adjust to up tempo songs with ease as well as balllads .
I don't know how I have missed this one. Ray is super wonderful. He has been my hero for many years. His voice is one of the best and all of his songs have been pure gold. We met him about 25 years ago and he was so handsome and such a charming gentleman. This song is one of my favorites. Dottie West did a great job with it. Thank you for posting this treasure by this terrific artist. - Paula
I just heard a lovely version of this song on the radio on an "ecumenical" station, a local station here in CT that plays popular music all day long, fm The Great American Song Book of Classics to contemporary, mixed w/a little country and soft rock. I had forgotten this song and love the melody so much.
Ray is simply the best there is, any singer, any song! Nobody does it better.

Willie once said Ray is the best vocalist in country music. He's like an opera singer with a guitar -- especially with these gems from the 1960s.

Yea Rays got that great opera like vibrato voice while George Jones bends and slides his notes like a steel guitar. Both amazing voices.
