  • Jayanthi is no doubt an excellent musician. But I wish vainikas like her stop using intrusive contact mikes; they really distort the natural sound of the instrument, although they amplify and bring across the subtle gamakas to the rasika's ears. There is one video in which a young Jayanthi accompanies Padmavathy mami: Video 5LXR0twwKfU. Listen to it; one will know how unfair it is to deform the veena's nada.

  • The mridangist is Bangalore Arjun Kumar. It is a pity (nay, ridiculous) that he is not as well known (or popular) as he rightfully should be!! Just listen to how he plays for the krithi, particularly in the anupallavi.

  • cant here the morcing, maybe its supposed to be subtle in the background of the music and the audio recording did not capture it

  • Excellent jeu de Ms Jayanthi Kumaresh.

Merci pour cette video d'un instrument qui devient rare et c'est dommage.

  • and the name of the song?

  • Excellent performance by Mrs. Jayanthi on the veena!! The mridangam and ghatam artistes are equally good. But the morsing seems to be completely inaudible!!

  • Jayanthi has a great style.

  • very nice tune and excellent performance..wish more people take up this ancient instrument. miss the unplugged sound. thx for posting.

  • incredible india! great stream, kieran

  • the tabla sounds perfect, too. Manoranjani - sounds kinda like Locrian on the way up. Then I get lost. I'm going to have to listen to this a long time.

  • It is not a tabla. It is called the mridhangam, a south indian instrument

  • spectacular indeed

  • The kriti is Atukaradani in Manoranjani.

  • that is not a sitar, right ? it's more like a guitar. at least that's what i hear.

  • Its not sitar or guitar. It is a south indian instrument called Veena.

  • Could anyone tell the song and raga?

  • the raaga is Manoranjani

forgot the name of the krithi but i know that it's a thyagaraja krithi

  • Thank you very much.

  • if anybody has the vid file of the concert she and her husband played in iim bangalore for spicmackay, please upload.

  • nice jayanthi. Nice and soft fingering but the mike was not picking up the talam string sound.

  • Superb .....Words cannot describe ....no words available in the dictionary to describe this performance of Smt.Jayanthi
