  • 1:20 Party in the back business in the front

  • Famous all around the world. In New Zealand.

I remember seeing the lead Shayne Carter around Dunners. Cool guy.

    Great song. (full-stop)

  • for me, SJF are the greatest NZ band never to make it - still love Shayne Carter's work whether in Dimmer or The Adults...

  • Scarfies brought me here :D

  • But she...She speeeeeeds....elusive as a thief in the night, she's stealing away!

She riiiiiides the wind, she burn...burns.

Its construction is beautiful! I love this track, thanks Straitjacket Fits!

  • Wow, nice hair do on Shayne Carter there...

  • The best New Zealand band to come out of the 80s :D

  • those numbers at the start on on doors on a building in Waltham Road Christchurch, just past the over bridge (fairly sure of this)

  • @COMMUNISTPHILOSOPHY Yeah NZR sheds if I remember right, will have to see if they still stand, I liked 'em.

  • I have been getting this song in my head recently. No idea why, but makes my heart ache for the cold and the rain in NZ. Its not exactly sunny in Bris right now, but it's in no way cold. But on the vid, what is with his hair?

  • @lyndonnorton1981

It's been in my head too! no idea why either; but, i like it there!

Go the good old kiwi music!!

  • Christchurch for sure. Looks like the Lyttleton tunnel, too. Magical times. Magical song. Magical band. Thanks for posting Duncster.

  • Not so much speed in those days eh? More like a dose of dirty Morph in the alleyway beside the Crown! Loads a memories, good tunes cheers fer posting Duncster!

  • Filmed in Christchurch yeah? I know it's not the only place with those numbered railway doors, (think they the ones by Waltham overbridge) but that looks like Lyttelton tunnel too.

  • Always loved the Fits. thanks for the upload.

  • I wrote an essay on New Zealand Music and mentioned this song and got an excellense!!! This song reminds me alot of Nirvana's song Milk It.

  • Was this song from the 80s? I'm American, and I must say, New Zealand were surely ahead of their time musically.

  • @jaketheman091 1986 - 'Life in one chord' ep, FLYING NUN RECORDS - Legen-(wait for it...)... DARY!

  • @jaketheman091 Yep. About 1988.

  • Straitstraitstraitstraitstraitstrait...

  • Brilliant song.

  • the original nz nirvana

  • I remember a time when there was no cell phones, a martini was made with gin, and Straight Jacket Fits were the best band in the world.

  • Slipknot better? Wow, what an inciteful and considered opinion. Wait....wait....I prefer pasta... I'm relevant.

  • Slipknot better

  • you my friend are what we in the business of real music call... and idiot!

  • Waah. I gotta watch Scarfies again :D.

  • This is one of those perfect musical moments, like there she goes

  • perfect

  • Yeh sorry about that. Damn undelete dont quite undelete you. Well I was most pleased to find this on youtube after thinking the song/video which I reckon I saw on RAGE circa 88 had been banished to the rock dustbins.

When I saw these guys I thought, F**K there's a NZ Died Pretty out there. Admittedly a better looking version.

    Watching that Flying Nun:

    REUNION GIG!

Has anyone noticed that the last chord sequence in this song sounds like September Gurlz??!

    HA

  • I've heard this band's two lps and have to say they play some great music creating often a dreamy atmosphere

  • Omfg, NZ music is just amazing.

  • I played this to a mate of mine and he thought it was a recent release.

Also, have a listen to the band 'The Kings of Leon'. Familiar sound or what!

  • How the fuck can you compare this too kings of leon?

  • agreed.

  • its a shame we can never make it overseas. Other wise all our musicians would be millionaires.

  • That wouldnt be a good thing

  • It would be a great thing. Boost our economy even further. Attract more tourists. Give us world recognition

  • By that i mean that this is great and king of leon is shit

  • one of the best, if not "the" best

  • praise heyzeus for youtube for lil reprisals like this

  • Such a truly underrated band. I have been listening to my FITS discs lately and their brilliance still shines on.

  • this still kicks ass

  • one of the best nz songs ever!

  • Damn NZ has had some great bands over the years, Straightjacket Fits, being my second fave behind the Chills. Being an Aussie, I just never mention it to other kiwis. Hahaha.

  • @kieran9093 testify brother, though i've got that the other way round ;->

    Royalties over dialling a Prayer?

  • Absolutely brilliant!

  • just cant get enough of this song, rock on

  • Love this song. Grew up thru school with Shanyne and high school with Jeff the drummer. Have an old soccer team photo some where of me and Shayne in the team. Shall try to post it when I find it on Dimmer's MySpace site when I find it. Ants

  • Wouldn't mind seeing Dial a prayer if anyone's got it. Carter is a brilliant muso.

  • Hey wow, I have a heap of old rock videos from the days of Radio with Pictures and that. How do I get them onto YouTube? They're on Video cassettes at the moment.

  • Hmmm - where do I start?

You could use a video capture card and record directly to avi files on your PC.

Or you could get a Video/DVD Recorder and create DVD's, then rip the DVD to avi files.

Or you could send the videos to me!!!!

  • I reckon.

  • yay cheers for posting this.

  • We need Down In Splendour on YouTube

  • Great Song

  • Thanks so much

  • And in the prime improbability of conversation & if we had that time, I'd offer one line 8 words wide - it was a really stupid way to go.

Lyrical genius awash with Gibsons whispering sweet nothings!

  • The best damn band in the world!!!

  • This proves why i'm still in love with Shayne Carter! xx

  • I'm not sure there was a better guitar band in the era...SF were awesome

  • Absolutely brilliant! I loved this band to pieces and I've never seen this. Thanks for posting!
