What a fun commercial - seems to capture the era really well, with added flair for being "foreign". Great art direction and disco music. I miss advertisements like this that sold the fantasy.
This video is from 1978 not 1979 as stated. It was released by Chrysler de México. The 1979 Volare (not Volaré, in Mexico) was slighty different, mainly by its mouldings and tail lights.
My dad had a 1979 Chrysler Valiant Volare (its full name) and it was a very beautiful and reliable (believe it or not!) car. Its factory color was "Verde Vanadio" (a kind of light teal green).
Oh my God, I´m old,, I was 5 years then , and I remember that commercial, and yes, we had a ´79 Volare, that never worked fine, but it was a pretty car !
I do not know why, but the F-bodies (Aspen/Volaré) did offer very good quality in Mexico. Another history happened in the U.S. Even Lee Iacocca commented on that!!
the first 2 years the aspen/volare went on sale they had massive quality control problems. The cars were rushed through development and hadn't been properly tested nor the assembly lines caught up to speed to make them. After the startup the Aspen and volare were good cars the stigma of the first 2 years plagued them forever. It's important to remember that a dodge diplomat is the same exact car and power train and was made up until 1989.
@Lumotaku I had this same car (a Mexican Chrysler Valiant-Volare) and the engine and all the car itself were bullet-proof. The quality problems (rust mainly) that affected U.S. versions of the F-body (Aspen/Volaré) were no present on Mexican cars. The Mexican F (1977-80 Valiant-Volare/Dart) and M (1981-82 Valiant-Volare/Dart) were as tough as Sherman tanks.
Mine lasted from 1979 (new) to 1984 without a sole problem.
@delagarza75 It probably has a lot to do with the climate in Mexico. The Northeastern United States is notorious for older cars developing body cancer, Yes, those cars were tough. It took a lot to kill that old slant six.
"No wonder my wallet's emp-teee!, This piece of shit has picked it cleeeannnnn!" (my interpretation of the lyrics that the people who were driving it in this commercial must have been singing!)
i had a 77 and in college friends would sing this damn song at you- worse song ever, could never get it out of my head when i drove that car

odd that they film it in Venice, where no cars are allowed or ever seen!

An Aspen working badly? that's weird. I have a 1979 Dart (the Mexican version)and people get surprised of how well it works after almost 30 years.

I hope this info clarifies the doubts.
